Best Western Walworth Castle Hotel looks like you’re about to stay in a medieval fortress, but the experience is closer to a slightly ******* Premier Inn with turrets.
The castle exterior is genuinely impressive. The inside feels like it was last renovated during the English Civil War. Creaky floors, questionable décor, piggy smell breakfasts and recepcionist smile thicker than the castle walls.
That said, it’s strangely charming in the same way old pubs and abandoned stately homes are charming. Not luxurious, not modern, but definitely memorable.
Good location, No room service available. The location is good and accessible near the city centre but the room was not sound proof enough and there was noise from the surrounding street coming into room even at fourth floor which was annoying.
A great stay. Staff were lovely and super helpful. A problem with my room meant i had to switch, but staff addressed this as soon as possible. Pool was an added bonus as were the sauna and steam room. Will def stay there again when visiting Durham.
Absolutely spotless and finished to a high standard. Decor is modern and appealing throughout. Staff are helpful. Lovely restaurant and fantastic coffee served there. The only slight issue I would say, is that you can hear guests in the next room very easily and this isn’t desirable for obvious reasons. We sadly ended up with very noisy guests in the room next to us the first night we stayed and this caused considerable disruption to our sleep pretty much all night. Saying this, we didn’t notify the staff though (so they may have been able to help) as there was no phone in the room. The next night was fine and completely silent so this would be dependent on who you have staying near you.
Very nice. The room was clean and self-help. The restaurant next to it was delicious. I ate a lot ... The young lady on duty had a clear tooth for our foreign population, slowed down and understood.
Average level for the hotel , but the price is matching to the environment, so it is not a problem

GGuest UserLocation was perfect for our needs, near to beautiful Yarm! The amenities were good and a dip in the pool was perfect after a hot day! Overall cleanliness was good, just needed a few touch up here and there, tiles missing in spa area a
Nd our bathroom looked tired! Disappointed that there was no compensation for broken key card machine and we found this unnerving as it felt very ‘big brother’ being tracked on our every move! A drink at dinner, complimentary breakfasts or bar meal would have been a nice gesture!
GGPSCThey had a simple answer ‘No’ for everything.
Can I check in 30 mins early? No. Pay £15 extra. Paid!
Laundry service available? No
Microwave available to heat food in the restaurant? No
It’s a very basic hotel. Not recommended for families. Asked to clean the room; they forgot to inform the cleaner. Even when they cleaned the room the next day, they just changed the linen. Everything else was as is. Poor experience overall
GGuest UserThis was a lovely bed and breakfast above the pub in a nice area of the town. Continental breakfast. My suite was spacious, well cared for and tastefully decorated. It was really nice and I would stay again. Beyond breakfast there is no food on site but there are shops (including Coop) a short walk away and a very good food pub restaurant a short walk in the other direction.
