Baoding Baiyangdian Travel Guide | Transportation + Tickets + Routes + Travel Tips — traveler post in Anxin

Baoding Baiyangdian Travel Guide | Transportation + Tickets + Routes + Travel Tips

Baiyangdian Travel Guide 📍Address: Baiyangdian Scenic Area, Anxin County, Baoding City, Hebei Province ✨Highlights: The largest freshwater lake in North China, thousands of acres of reed marshes, vast lotus fields, red culture (Yanling Guerrilla), a rare water town in the north, and boat tours are the core experience 🎫Tickets & boat rides (Important) · Entrance tickets and boat tickets are purchased separately. Boat tickets are mandatory as attractions are scattered across different areas and can only be reached by boat · Peak season (Apr 15–Oct 15): Tickets are approx. 40 yuan; half price in off-season · Boat rides: Large boats and speedboats are available. We recommend large boats for a smoother ride, perfect for viewing the reed scenery. Speedboats are faster but more expensive Tip: Do not trust roadside unlicensed guides or private boats, as they often overcharge. Purchase tickets and enter from the official pier 🚗Transportation 1. Driving: Navigate to "Baiyangdian Tourist Pier." Parking is ample. Approx. 1 hour from Baoding city center, 2 hours from Shijiazhuang, and 2.5 hours from Beijing 2. Public transport: · High-speed train to Baiyangdian Station (Rongcheng), then take a taxi/bus to Anxin Baiyangdian Pier · Take a bus from Baoding Passenger Transport Center to Anxin County, then transfer to the scenic area 🗺Recommended itinerary (1-day trip) Tourist Pier > Boat ride through the reed marshes > Lotus Grand View Garden (lotus in full bloom in summer, great for photos on boardwalks and viewing platforms) > Yanling Guerrilla Memorial Hall (red history, learn about anti-war stories) > Folk Village/Gazi Village > Return to pier For a 2-day trip: Stay in a water cabin to see the morning mist over the lake, which is less crowded and great for photos 📅Best time to visit ✅Jul–Aug: Lotus in full bloom, most beautiful scenery, but crowded and hot during summer vacation ✅Sep: Golden reeds, fewer tourists, perfect for photos of the reed marshes, cool and comfortable ❌Winter: Lake freezes, scenery is monotonous, not recommended 🥗Local food · Baiyangdian salted duck eggs: Oily and delicious, a must-try · Stewed mixed fish, fried river shrimp, scrambled eggs with lotus leaves, water caltrops, lotus seeds · Water town specialty: Lotus leaf rice 📸Photo spots (corresponding to your generated photos) 1. Reed marsh waterways: View from the boat, vast reeds 2. Lotus Grand View Garden: Lotus ponds, wooden boardwalks 3. Morning mist on the lake: Atmospheric mist over the water in the early morning 4. Small wooden boats docked at the shore 5. Water town houses in Gazi Village 6. Sunset over the lake, sunlight hitting the reeds ⚠️Travel tips 1. It's windy on the boat, so use sun protection and wear a hat; mosquito repellent is a must in summer 2. Prices in the Lotus Grand View Garden are high; bring your own water and snacks 3. Keep your phone secure while on the boat; it's windy and you don't want it falling into the water 4. Wear comfortable flat shoes as there are many boardwalks on the islands 5. Duration: Approx. 6–7 hours for a 1-day trip

No time off for National Day? Tested: 2-day weekend trips that feel like a long getaway — traveler post in Anxin

No time off for National Day? Tested: 2-day weekend trips that feel like a long getaway

Don't want to take time off for National Day? You can still have a long-distance getaway in just 2 days 01 Shigatse | Tibet A 2-day trip to Shigatse sounds crazy, but it's doable. Fly to Lhasa on Friday night, get some sleep, and charter a car to take the G318 early Saturday morning. You'll arrive by the afternoon. 📍 I advise you to know your limits on the route to Mount Everest Base Camp. It takes over half a day just to get from downtown Shigatse to Rongbuk Monastery. Two days isn't enough for a round trip, so don't push it. Save Tashilhunpo Monastery for Sunday morning. ⏰ Get there before 9:00 AM. There are fewer tourists, and the sound of monks chanting morning prayers drifting from the halls will calm your soul. Ticket prices fluctuate by season; check the official daily announcement. ⚠️ Photography is prohibited in many halls. Don't wave your phone around, or you'll be embarrassed when asked to stop. Best for: Young people who can handle altitude sickness and aren't traveling with family. Skip this route if you're with seniors or children. 02 Qingyuan | Guangdong If you want to escape the crowds in Guangdong on a weekend, Qingyuan is a solid choice. Take the high-speed train to Qingyuan Station, then transfer to a bus to Lianzhou. It takes just over 2 hours. Lianzhou Underground River is the main attraction. 📍 The pier is on the left side of the cave entrance. Take the boat first, then walk. Don't get the order wrong, or you'll be walking against the crowd the whole time. ⏰ Enter the cave before 10:00 AM. The light cuts diagonally through the entrance, making the underground river look like it's coated in oil. It gets crowded in the afternoon, and you'll have to queue for the boat. 🍜 After leaving the cave, head to downtown Lianzhou for Dongbei cured meat and Xingzi braised pork. Don't settle for food at the scenic area entrance; it's overpriced and mediocre. ⚠️ The cave stays around 18°C, so bring a light jacket even in summer. The ground is slippery, so wear non-slip shoes—don't wear white sneakers. 03 Yushu | Qinghai The Yushu route is an extreme weekend operation. Fly to Xining and transfer to Yushu, or fly directly to Yushu Batang Airport and acclimate to the altitude upon arrival. You cannot drive through Hoh Xil on your own. 📍 View Tibetan antelopes from the observation decks along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. Just watch from a distance; don't cross the protection station fences. Sanjiangyuan National Park is huge; two days is only enough to barely scratch the surface. ⏰ Animals are most active at dawn and dusk; you won't see much at noon. ⚠️ The altitude is over 4,500 meters, and altitude sickness is no joke. Take Rhodiola rosea in advance, and once you arrive, don't run or jump—walk slowly. Best for: People with high-altitude experience and good physical fitness. If this is your first time at high altitude, don't use this route as a practice run. 04 Yichun | Heilongjiang Yichun is a hidden gem for a weekend in Northeast China. Fly to Harbin, then take a train or bus to Yichun. You'll arrive by Saturday noon. For Tangwang River Forest Park, 📍 enter from the south gate, walk through the stone forest area first, then head up to the observation deck. It's a smooth route with no backtracking. ⏰ From late September to early October, the forest starts changing colors. The mix of red, yellow, and green is much better than just plain green. The National Day holiday falls right in this window. 🍜 Eat iron pot stew and blueberry products in downtown Yichun. Don't buy dried blueberries at the scenic area; they're half the price at downtown supermarkets. ⚠️ Signal is weak in the forest area, so download offline maps in advance. There are many mosquitoes, so bring repellent—don't believe anyone who says there are no mosquitoes in autumn. 05 Baoding | Hebei Baoding is the king of cost-effective weekend trips around Beijing. Take the high-speed train to Baoding East, then transfer to local transport to reach the counties. You can pick two spots for a 2-day trip. The Western Qing Tombs are best visited in the morning. 📍 Start at Tailing Tomb. The pine and cypress trees on both sides of the sacred path block out the sky, and when it's quiet, it feels like you have the place to yourself. ⏰ The light hits the sacred path diagonally before 10:00 AM, which is perfect for photos. Choose either Baishi Mountain or Yesanpo—don't try to do both. You need luck to see the sea of clouds at Baishi Mountain, while Yesanpo is great for kids to play in the water. Schedule Anxin Baiyangdian for Sunday afternoon. 🍜 Stewed mixed fish and salted duck eggs are standard. Boat meals are expensive; it's more practical to eat after you get ashore. ⚠️ Boat prices at Baiyangdian are inconsistent. Buy tickets through official channels in advance, and don't trust the "cheap boats" offered by touts at the pier. 06 Altay | Xinjiang Flying to Altay for the weekend sounds luxurious, but tickets are sometimes easier to snag around the National Day holiday. Fly to Altay or Kanas Airport. Two days in Kanas is tight. 📍 Take the shuttle bus to the transfer center, go up to Guanyutai (Fish Watching Pavilion) for the panoramic view, then walk along the lakeside boardwalk. ⏰ From late September to early October, the birch forests turn completely yellow. Snow might come early to Northern Xinjiang, creating an amazing contrast between the white mountain peaks and the yellow landscape below. Koktokay is in Fuyun County, far from Kanas, so you can only choose one for a 2-day trip. The Altay grasslands are best in the evening; the sight of herdsmen driving sheep back to the pens is very healing. ⚠️ The temperature difference between day and night can exceed 15°C, so bring both a down jacket and short sleeves. Accommodation prices double during the National Day holiday, so book in advance. 07 Yantai | Shandong Yantai is a safe bet for a weekend of sea views and seafood. Take the high-speed train directly to Yantai Station, or fly to Penglai Airport. Save the Penglai Pavilion Scenic Area for Saturday morning. 📍 Enter from Zhenyang Gate, visit the pavilion first, then take the cable car to Tianheng Mountain to see the boundary line between the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea. ⏰ Get there right when it opens at 8:00 AM; tour groups swarm in after 10:00 AM. You need to take a boat to Changdao Island, which takes at least a full day including round-trip travel and getting around the island—Sunday is perfect for this. Longkou Nanshan is great for seniors; it's a slow-paced walk through the Buddha statues and gardens. 🍜 For Yantai menzi (starch jelly), mackerel dumplings, and sea worm rice, eat near Suochengli. Don't eat around the scenic areas. ⚠️ Changdao ferry tickets are in high demand during the National Day holiday, so book on the official platform a day in advance. It's windy at sea, so bring motion sickness medicine if you need it. 08 Hengyang | Hunan For a weekend hike on Mount Heng in Hengyang, take the high-speed train to Hengyang West Station, where buses go directly to the scenic area. For the Mount Heng Scenic Area, 📍 hike up from the back gate of Nanyue Grand Temple via the Fanyin Valley route—it's less crowded and has better scenery. ⏰ If you want to see the sunrise, hike up on Saturday afternoon, stay halfway up the mountain, and continue climbing at 3:00 AM. Set aside two hours for Nanyue Grand Temple. It's popular, but don't get pestered by people at the entrance trying to sell you expensive incense. ⚠️ There's a free incense station inside the temple; sincerity matters more than how much you burn. 🍜 After hiking down, eat Hengyang fish noodles and Nanyue tofu pot. The small shops at the foot of the mountain are more than half the price of those at the top. Best for: People with average fitness can take the cable car and eco-friendly bus; it's suitable for seniors. It's crowded during the National Day holiday, and the cable car queue can be over an hour. Of these eight places, Qingyuan, Yichun, Baoding, Yantai, and Hengyang are doable for a weekend. Shigatse, Yushu, and Altay require saving up vacation days—don't kid yourself that two days is enough. Which one do you want to visit first?

Visit Baiyangdian and encounter a poetic, painting-like "Jiangnan of the North" — traveler post in Anxin

Visit Baiyangdian and encounter a poetic, painting-like "Jiangnan of the North"

The North has the most healing water town secret spot; there's no need to travel all the way to Jiangnan! Known as the "Pearl of North China," Baiyangdian is a 5A-rated core scenic area in Xiong'an, Hebei, and the hometown of "Little Soldier Zhang Ga." With tens of thousands of acres of lakes dotted across the landscape and endless stretches of lotus ponds and reeds, it offers new green lotus shoots in spring, ten miles of lotus fragrance in summer, snow-like reed catkins in autumn, and frozen, snow-covered lakes in winter. It's low-altitude with no mountain climbing, making it suitable for all ages—the gold standard for short weekend trips in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region! 📍 Scenic area overview Baiyangdian is the largest freshwater lake in North China. The scenic area consists of several unique islands. Here are the four must-visit core attractions: ✅ Lotus Grand View Garden: The star attraction in summer, featuring vast, blooming lotus ponds—the perfect spot for lotus viewing and taking atmospheric photos ✅ Yuanfei Lotus Garden: A quiet, niche spot with clear water, perfect for a leisurely stroll and watching wild ducks play ✅ Baiyangdian Culture Garden: Blends revolutionary history with local water town customs; learn the story of the Yanling Guerrilla ✅ Yuanyang Island: A popular social media spot with stunning night views; the snowy winter atmosphere is unmatched You'll rely on boats to travel between islands. Enjoy a boat ride across the lake, listen to the rippling water, and immerse yourself in the gentle charm of this northern water town! 🚌 Hassle-free transportation Public transportation 1. High-speed rail: Direct to Baiyangdian Station. Reachable in 1 hour from Beijing, Tianjin, or Shijiazhuang. After exiting the station, it's a 20-minute taxi ride to the Anxin Scenic Area pier 2. Accessible via highway. The scenic area has a large, official parking lot. All-day parking is only CNY 20, with the first 15 minutes free. Parking is very convenient. 🎫 2026 latest ticket policy (practical tips, no traps) ✅ All-inclusive pass: CNY 185/person (best value): Includes round-trip boat rides + admission to the four core attractions. They lack safety guarantees and are prone to overcharging. Only buy the official scenic area pass! 🏨 Accommodation recommendations 1. Homestays near the scenic area (top choice): CNY 100–300/night. Within walking distance to the pier. Clean and authentic, suitable for day trips or those wanting to see the morning lake views 2. Light luxury hotels: Xian Hotel, Jinghan Junting Holiday Hotel. Located 1–2 km from the scenic area with full amenities and parking. Suitable for comfortable family trips 3. County hotels: Many options, great value. Steamed fish, braised fish head, fresh fish ball soup—incredibly fresh and authentic 🐟 Stewed Mixed Lake Fish: Various wild river fish served with corn flatbread. A rustic, flavorful local specialty 🌿 Lotus Leaf Chicken: Steamed wrapped in lotus leaves. The meat is tender and infused with lotus fragrance—refreshing and not greasy 🥞 Fried Lotus Flowers and Reed Shoots: Unique, niche snacks. Sweet, crispy, and something you can't find anywhere else! ⚠️ Tips to avoid traps (tested advice) 1. You must take a boat to reach all islands in the scenic area. The all-inclusive pass includes round-trip boat rides, so don't spend extra money or get tricked into renting a second boat 2. There are many mosquitoes in summer, so be sure to bring mosquito repellent in advance. It's windy on the lake, and there's a large temperature difference between morning and evening, so remember to bring a light jacket 3. Best time for lotus viewing in summer: June–September. The misty lotus ponds in the early morning and the sunset over the lake in the evening are the most photogenic 4. Stay warm when visiting in winter. The wind on the lake is biting. The snow scenery is beautiful, but the roads can be slippery, so walk carefully 5. Protect the ecological environment. Littering is prohibited in the lake area. Do not pick lotus flowers or reeds; help protect the beautiful water town scenery No need for long-distance travel—you can encounter poetic, Jiangnan-like scenery right on your doorstep. As the seasons turn, every frame of Baiyangdian is healing and stunning! 💛 Interactive question: Would you rather visit in summer to admire the vast lotus fields, or in winter to see the snowy lake and reeds?

Traveling with kids over Mid‑Autumn Festival and National Day, these 6 places I tried are easy and eye‑opening — traveler post in Anxin

Traveling with kids over Mid‑Autumn Festival and National Day, these 6 places I tried are easy and eye‑opening

Mid‑Autumn and National Day give you an 8‑day holiday. If you don't take the kids out, it feels like a loss. But what are the worst things about traveling with kids? Boredom, you collapsing from exhaustion, and spending money only to hear "that's it." I picked six places that are fail‑safe in my experience, where kids will come back talking for days. 1️⃣ Haibei | Qinghai The grassland at the foot of the Qilian Mountains is already yellowing in September. If you bring kids to ride horses, don't pick the roadside touts. 📍 Two kilometers east of Qilian county town there's a local herdsman's own horse team, 50 yuan per lap; someone leads the horse, so it's safe. Heihe Grand Canyon is best visited in the afternoon. ⏰ After 4:00 PM the light slants into the canyon, the rocks are warm, and the breeze is cool. Kids can spend half an hour picking up stones while you rest. Don't be greedy with Lenglongling and Amidongsuo. Pick only one for kids; I chose Lenglongling. The ascent is gradual, and a 6‑year‑old can finish it on their own. Amidongsuo is steep; carrying a child up will make you question your life choices. ⚠️ Haibei has big day‑night temperature swings; bring a light down jacket in September. Stay in Qilian county town, not a yurt in the scenic area—it's too cold at night for kids to sleep well. 2️⃣ Xiamen | Fujian How to tour Gulangyu without getting tired? My answer: get on the island from Sanqiutian pier and walk against the crowd. Most people push toward Longtou Road; turn onto Bishan Road and it's quiet enough to hear piano music. Railway culture park is a pleasant surprise. Old tracks turned into a walkway let kids walk a straight line along the rails, with bougainvillea blooming on both sides. ⏰ Go at 7:00 AM when it’s cool; locals walk their birds here. The vegetarian cakes at Nanputuo Temple are worth the queue. 🍜 Buy one box each of pumpkin and mung bean fillings—kids love them. There are absurd numbers of turtles in the temple's release pond; kids can watch for 20 minutes. Enter Xiamen botanical garden through the west gate. 📍 From the west gate take the sightseeing bus straight to the rainforest world. The mist spray runs from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM. If you miss it, it's just a regular forest. ⚠️ Book Gulangyu ferry tickets three days in advance for National Day; don't head to the pier empty‑handed. 3️⃣ Changsha | Hunan Tianxin Pavilion is best visited at dusk. ⏰ Climb at 5:00 PM to watch the sunset turn the Xiang River orange. Kids are usually more interested in the old city walls than the pavilion—if they touch the bricks and ask "is this ancient?" you've won. Don't hike the entire Yuelu Mountain with kids. 📍 Enter from the east gate, take the cable car up and the slide down. Cable car lines start at 40 minutes, and the slide makes kids scream the whole way. Ten minutes at Aiwanting is enough for photos—don't linger. The provincial museum is the highlight. Book three days in advance; it's closed on Monday. In the Mawangdui exhibit, when a child stares at Lady Xin Zhui and asks "is she asleep?" be prepared with an answer. HuaMingLou is far from the city, about 1.5 hours by car. If your kid is under 5, I advise skipping it. Three hours round trip, one hour touring, two hours of fussing in the car—it isn't worth it. 🍜 For food, the sugar oil rice cakes in the alley at Nanmenkou are better than those at Huogongdian, 3 yuan per skewer; kids can hold one each. 4️⃣ Shuozhou | Shanxi Shahu Kou has only one pass, but it's the right choice with kids. Standing on the city wall the wind can blow off hats. If a child asks "where did people go from here before," point to the distance and say "outside the pass" and they'll nod as if they understand. ⏰ Arrive before 10:00 AM when the light brings out the tamped earth wall texture. In the afternoon you'll get backlit, and photos look hazy. 📍 There is a small free museum next to Shahu Kou with several old steles. Kids who can't read much still remember the cool feel of touching the stone. ⚠️ Shuozhou is windy; wear a windbreaker in September. There are few dining options nearby, so bring bread and fruit. It's about a 1‑hour drive from Shuozhou city; the road is fine but there are many heavy trucks—be careful. You can see this place in two hours—don't plan other sights. One spot per day is enough with kids. 5️⃣ Weinan | Shaanxi For Mount Hua with kids my advice: take the west peak cable car up and the west peak cable car down. Don't try to hike it, and don't attempt the north peak. Let kids stand on the west peak and watch clouds pass beneath their feet; it's more effective than any textbook. ⏰ Take the first cable car at 7:00 AM when it's less crowded. After 9:00 AM tour groups arrive and waits start at an hour. 📍 There's a small platform next to Yuegong in Xifeng town that's great for photos, but the railing gaps are large—don't let kids lean out. ⚠️ Instant noodles on the mountain cost 25 yuan a cup, hot water is 5 yuan. Bring self‑heating rice to save money and have a hot meal. If a child can't walk, carry them—don't force it. West peak round trip takes about 3 hours. 🍜 After descending, go to Huayin city for da dao mian; a small bowl is enough for kids, with a sour and spicy taste to whet the appetite. Mount Hua is suitable for kids aged 6 and up. If they're too young, the cable car lines and strong winds at the top will make you regret it. 6️⃣ Hangzhou | Zhejiang How to tour West Lake with kids? My route: 📍 Walk from Broken Bridge along Bai Causeway to Gushan—it's flat all the way, stroller‑friendly. On Gushan is Xiling Seal Engravers' Society; kids won't get the seal carving, but there's a small pool at the back with so many koi it can feel overwhelming. Take a rowing boat in Xixi Wetland. ⏰ Board at 3:00 PM when the light is soft; the boatman will point out egrets. If a child reaches for the water, hold their clothes tight. The China Umbrella Museum is west of Gongchen Bridge. It's free and closed on Monday. Kids can assemble a small paper umbrella for a 15 yuan materials fee. When they walk around holding their finished umbrella they'll be so proud. Taiziwan Park has no tulips in autumn but does have ginkgo. They turn yellow only in November, so during Mid‑Autumn and National Day it's all green. Don't expect more—treat it as a regular park. ⚠️ Many shared bike no‑parking zones line the lake; riding with kids is inconvenient. Exiting at Longxiangqiao subway station and walking is the easiest. 7️⃣ Pingliang | Gansu Mount Kongtong, and yes, Jin Yong wasn't lying. Take the cable car up with kids, then walk the steps at Chaotianmen. A 5‑year‑old can climb them with three short rests. ⏰ Start climbing at 9:00 AM and reach the top by noon. 📍 On the summit there's a place selling tea in small pots for 5 yuan a bowl. Kids may not like the taste, but watching the owner brew tea over charcoal is mesmerizing. ⚠️ Don't go down the same way. Head toward Yaowang Cave for a gentler path that passes a pine forest. The carpet of needles is soft underfoot and kids will run happily. 🍜 At the foot of the mountain there's a lamb stew spot; a small bowl is 15 yuan. Kids may pull the bread apart more than eat it, but they're happy. This place suits kids 6 and up who like running and jumping. Carrying a child up steps will ruin your knees. 8️⃣ Baoding | Hebei Qingxi imperial tombs are best in the morning. ⏰ Arrive before 9:00 AM when the stone statues on the spirit way are wrapped in morning mist and kids say "the lions are sleeping." Walking from Tailing to Chongling is 3 km; with kids running and stopping it takes about an hour. The Baishi Mountain glass walkway scares me more than the kids. 📍 Enter from the east gate, take the shuttle to Jiucaoyuan, then walk 10 minutes to the walkway. ⚠️ The glass walkway charges separately, 10 yuan per person. If a child lies down to look down, hold the railing—you might get weak legs. Yesanpo is good for an overnight stay. The creek in Bailixia is shallow so kids can splash. 🍜 Farmhouses serve thin pancakes with small fish; kids can eat two pancakes. Anxin Baiyangdian is perfect for Mid‑Autumn and National Day. The reeds haven't been harvested, and a boat ride through them lets kids reach out and touch the reed plumes. ⚠️ Boat fees are per boat, not per person—negotiate the price in advance. These Baoding spots are spread out, so self‑driving is most convenient. Pick either Qingxi imperial tombs or Baishi Mountain, and either Yesanpo or Baiyangdian. Two days and one night is just right—don't try to do too much. Of the six regions, Haibei and Mount Hua require the most energy, while Xiamen and Hangzhou are the easiest. When traveling with kids over Mid‑Autumn and National Day, less is more. Pick one, take your time, and you'll be surprised how much kids remember.

New travel route in Northern Shaanxi: See ancient architecture, explore ruins, grasslands, and a desert sea

A family trip to Northern Shaanxi: feel the evening breeze by the desert sea, see cliffside ancient architecture, explore prehistoric civilizations, stroll through an 80s-style town, embrace vast grasslands, and trace the footsteps of the Yang family generals. A compact, direct route to learn while you play👇 🗺️ 📍Day 1: Shenmu City > Erlang Mountain > Yangjia City (explore the frontier) 📍Day 2: Shimao Ruins (dialogue with a prehistoric capital) > Gaojiapu Ancient Town 📍Day 3: Erlintu Grassland > Hongjiannao ⛰️ Erlang Mountain – The Blessed Land of Linzhou Legend has it that this is the site where Erlang Shen (Yang Jian) "carried the mountain to chase the sun." Amazingly, nearly 100 temples are scattered along the 1 km long ridge, built according to the terrain. Head up after 3:00 PM to avoid the heat and reach the summit for a panoramic view of Shenmu. During temple fairs (held on the 7th–9th of the first lunar month, 7th–9th of the fourth lunar month, and 21st–23rd of the sixth lunar month), you can meet "xianxia" (fantasy) NPCs. Kids can interact with them to win "fortune coins" 🍑 🛡️ Yangjia City: Tracing the Yang family generals Stop by Yangjia City on your way back. Climb the remaining city walls to overlook the Kuye River Valley, and share the heroic stories of the Yang family generals with your children amidst the atmosphere of the frontier. 🏛️ Shimao Ruins: A dialogue with a 4,000-year-old prehistoric capital This grand stone-walled city, consisting of the Huangchengtai, inner city, and outer city, is a key piece of evidence for the origins of Chinese civilization. Start at the museum to see the "virtual archaeology" interactive screen, then walk the wooden boardwalk at the outer city's east gate ruins. Put on MR equipment to see the restored ancient city, and finally, gaze at the pyramid-shaped Huangchengtai from a distance. On certain holidays, the scenic area features deep interactive experiences with "ancient Huaxia" NPCs, allowing children to immerse themselves in ancient civilization and truly learn while they play~ 🏘️ Gaojiapu Ancient Town – "Ordinary World" The filming location for "Yuanxi County" in Lu Yao's famous novel "Ordinary World." Stroll through the old streets with the Zhongxing Tower as the center. See 80s-style buildings like the Dongfeng Photo Studio and the Supply and Marketing Cooperative, and "get a trendy haircut from Hu Delu." The town is full of life when the lights come on at night. Don't forget to have a bowl of lamb offal soup to warm your stomach~ 🌿 Erlintu Grassland: Embrace vastness and freedom Located on the edge of the Mu Us Desert, this 10,000-mu grassland is perfect for walking through flower fields with your kids. Identify typical grassland plants like needlegrass and Chinese ryegrass, and learn how straw checkerboard sand barriers turn deserts into oases. 🌊 Hongjiannao: The blue sea in the desert Take the kids on a boat tour to experience the intersection of the vast desert and blue water. Enjoy jet skiing, sand sliding, sand go-karts, and camel riding 🐫 The sand is soft and fine. No need to squeeze into crowds at the beach; just give your kids a set of sand-digging tools, and they can quietly build castles and dig canals for an entire afternoon! The summer-exclusive sunset concert in the evening adds to the atmosphere. 🍜 Food 🥢 Gaojiapu: Sour soup noodles, Yewa starch jelly, Changjia mung bean jelly, oven-baked buns, and offal noodles. 🥢 Shenmu City: Shaanbei stew, lamb offal soup, and braised meat with cheese served with wantuo.

September family travel spots: stroller-friendly and nap-ready — traveler post in Anxin

September family travel spots: stroller-friendly and nap-ready

The first month of school is here—the weather is mild, and attractions are less crowded. I've picked these 8 spots, focusing on being stroller-friendly, good for nap time, and easy on the parents. Don't ask why Disney isn't on the list; the answer is that you'll be waiting in line for at least two hours, and your legs will give out first. 1️⃣ Pingdingshan | Henan Take the cable car up Yaoshan Mountain; the rest of the path is mostly gentle boardwalks, so you can use a stroller for most of the way. ⏰ Arrive at the mountain gate before 9:00 AM while it's still cool and misty. The plaza at the foot of the Central Plains Buddha is wide enough for kids to run around while you sit and watch. 🚄 It's about a one-hour taxi ride from Pingdingshan West Station to Yaoshan. Driving or hiring a car is recommended; taking public transport will exhaust you. Try the "languocai" (stewed vegetable dish) at a local farmhouse restaurant at the foot of the mountain; it goes well with rice and is kid-friendly. ⚠️ The cable car line is long on weekends, so try to get there early. Best for kids 3+ who can walk a bit on their own. Head down the mountain before 2:00 PM to get back to the city for nap time. 2️⃣ Zhuzhou | Hunan The Yandi Mausoleum is in Luyuan Town. It's spacious with few stairs, making it stroller-friendly. ⏰ Morning is best—it's quiet, less crowded, and there's plenty of shade from old trees. A leisurely walk with kids takes about two hours. 📍 Kids will be curious about the well and the stele corridor in front of the mausoleum; a quick explanation is enough. 🍜 Find a rice noodle shop in town and order a bowl of original broth noodles (non-spicy); kids can slurp up half a bowl. 🚄 It's about a 1.5-hour drive from Zhuzhou West Station; best for self-driving. ⚠️ Avoid going at noon—there's nowhere to hide from the sun. In the afternoon, you can take a walk along the Xiangjiang River in the city; it's breezy, cool, and stroller-friendly. 3️⃣ Changzhi | Shanxi Choose either Baquan Gorge or Taihang Mountain Grand Canyon. With kids, I prefer Baquan Gorge—you enter by boat and exit by cable car, so there's less walking. ⏰ Enter the park before 10:00 AM to avoid long waits for the boat. The gorge is humid and several degrees cooler than outside, making it very comfortable in September. 📍 The boardwalk after getting off the boat is flat and stroller-friendly. 🚄 It's about a two-hour drive from Changzhi East Station. Self-driving is recommended, but the road is winding, so kids might get carsick—have bags ready. ⚠️ There's not much food in the gorge, so bring your own bread and water. Perfect for a family of three with average stamina who doesn't want to hike. Leave the scenic area by 3:00 PM and head back to the city for a bowl of "shuaibing" (flatbread) with meatball soup. 4️⃣ Harbin | Heilongjiang Harbin in September has no ice or snow, but it's less crowded, cool, and easy to walk around. Volga Manor is great for kids—lots of lawn space and a slow-moving little train. ⏰ Go at 2:00 PM for soft lighting, which is great for photos. Sit outside Saint Sophia Cathedral for a while and feed the pigeons; kids can play there for half an hour. 🍜 Grab a Modern popsicle on Central Street, then find a Russian restaurant for some borscht. 🚄 You can take taxis everywhere in the city, so no need to squeeze onto public buses. ⚠️ The Ice and Snow World is closed in September, so don't make a wasted trip. This season is all about peace and quiet, and Central Street is perfectly stroller-friendly. End the day with a breeze by the Songhua River in the evening. 5️⃣ Baoding | Hebei Western Qing Tombs, Baishishan, Yesanpo, Baiyangdian—four different directions, so don't be greedy, just pick one. With kids, I recommend Baiyangdian; you can take a boat to see the reeds, and the kids won't get tired. ⏰ Go in the morning; the boat ride is steady and not too sunny. 📍 The boardwalk in the Lotus Grand View Garden is flat and stroller-friendly. 🍜 Have a meal of stewed fish with corn flatbread at a farmhouse restaurant by the lake. ⚠️ Think twice about taking kids to the Baishishan glass skywalk; it involves waiting in line and might scare them—not worth it. Yesanpo is better for older kids to play in the water, and the Western Qing Tombs are good for a quiet stroll. 🚄 It's about an hour from Baoding East Station to Baiyangdian; self-driving is the most convenient. The kids will definitely fall asleep on the ride home in the afternoon. 6️⃣ Qianxinan | Guizhou Maling River Canyon and Wanfenglin are both worth visiting, but don't try to cram both into one day. ⏰ Go to Wanfenglin in the morning and take a sightseeing bus around; the rice paddies are turning yellow in September and look beautiful. 📍 You can get off and walk around the Xia'nahui Village section; it's stroller-friendly, and there are bananas for sale by the road. 🍜 For lunch, have a bowl of lamb rice noodles—tell the owner you want the non-spicy version. In the afternoon, go to Maling River Canyon; walking half the trail is enough. The waterfall spray is heavy, so bring a light jacket for the kids. 🚄 It's not far to take a taxi to either place from Xingyi city center. ⚠️ There are many stairs in the canyon, so a stroller won't work well—a baby carrier is more practical. Best for kids who can walk; it'll be tiring for very young ones. 7️⃣ Qingdao | Shandong Laoshan, Zhanqiao Pier, and the Olympic Sailing Center might sound like the standard tourist trio, but it's really not crowded in September. ⏰ Go to Zhanqiao Pier first in the morning; arrive before 8:00 AM before the seagulls are full, so the kids can still see them. For Laoshan, choose the Yangkou line—take the cable car up, walk a bit, and come back down; don't force a hike. 📍 Go to the Olympic Sailing Center in the evening; it's breezy and comfortable to stroll with a stroller on Lover's Dam. 🍜 Find a pork rib rice place in Taidong, or try Chuangeyu dumplings; they're kid-friendly. 🚄 You can get everywhere by subway, and there are elevators for strollers. ⚠️ It's windy by the sea, so bring a windbreaker for the kids. Head back to the hotel for a nap in the afternoon and go out again in the evening—the pace is just right. 8️⃣ Fuyang | Anhui Balihe is the most stress-free spot on this list. It's huge, but the sightseeing buses let you hop on and off, and you can bring a stroller on board. ⏰ Enter at 9:00 AM, take a bus ride around first, then get off at the spots you like. 📍 The Bird Forest and Twelve Flower Islands are kid favorites, and the paths are flat. 🍜 The food in the park is just okay, so I recommend bringing your own or leaving the park to eat "gelatiao" (local noodles) in the city. 🚄 It's about a 40-minute taxi ride from Fuyang West Station. ⚠️ Don't go during holidays; on regular days, it's so empty it feels like you've rented the place out. Perfect for families who don't want to walk too much and just want a place for the kids to burn off energy. Leave by 3:00 PM to avoid traffic on the way back. These 8 places are perfect for September. Pick one for a weekend trip—don't wait for the National Day crowds. If you ask me which one I recommend most, I'd choose Fuyang and Zhuzhou for traveling with little ones; they're the least exhausting.

I'm back from Baoding and it was a bit of a struggle; I don't recommend visiting in September or October. — traveler post in Anxin

I'm back from Baoding and it was a bit of a struggle; I don't recommend visiting in September or October.

Let's start with accommodation—here's a no-brainer guide 🏨. Don't stay too far out if you come to Baoding in September. Honestly, if you don't sleep well, you'll be exhausted exploring the old town the next day. The most convenient areas are around West Street and Yuhua Road in the Lianchi District. It's close enough to walk to the Zhili Governor's Office, Ancient Lotus Pond, and West Street. If you're lazy and don't want to take a taxi, just use your legs or a shared bike 🚲. For a tight budget, choose economy chain hotels. Check Trip.com for options around the train station/Yuhua Road; some hotels are around CNY 100 to 140, which are clean and worry-free. If you want some ambiance, choose comfort-tier hotels near West Street, around CNY 150 to 220—the projector rooms and smart rooms are quite nice 🛏️. If money is no object, go for high-end hotels around Baobai or Wanbo. They usually cost CNY 270 to 380 on Trip.com. They feel more business-like but are a bit further from the old town. If you're going to Yesanpo, stay in Sanpo Town. There are plenty of farmhouses and homestays near the Bailixia entrance. Prices don't skyrocket in September, and booking in advance on Trip.com is safer than looking blindly on the day. For the Western Qing Tombs, staying in Yixian County is more cost-effective; you can get a place for CNY 100 to 180. For Baiyangdian, stay near Anxin or the official Xiong'an pier. Don't trust the private guesthouses soliciting customers on the roadside; prices can easily fall apart 💸. Here is my lazy, non-rushed itinerary 🐢. Spend the first day just in the city; sleep in until 8:30 AM before heading out. Start at the Zhili Governor's Office (admission is about CNY 30–35). Rent an audio guide to hear the history of Zhili, otherwise, you'll just be staring at courtyards and feeling confused 🏛️. Walk five minutes to the Ancient Lotus Pond (ticket is about CNY 30). This northern garden is so comfortable in autumn; the pavilions, covered bridges, and old trees are all great for photos 📸. For lunch, have donkey meat burgers on West Street—freshly baked round buns with donkey offal soup—it costs about CNY 20–30 per person and is totally worth it. In the afternoon, visit the Huai Army Command Post (admission about CNY 25). The theater and Anhui-style architecture are very quiet and not crowded for photos 🎭. In the evening, stroll back to West Street; the bluestone paths and lanterns are great, and buying a cup of sour plum soup makes for a perfect city walk. Don't plan anything far for the evening. Have some beef soup with pancakes (niurou zhaobing)—about CNY 20–30 per person—and then just head back to the hotel to crash 🍲. For the second day, choose one of two options—don't be greedy, or you'll suffer. If you love mountains, go to Yesanpo Bailixia (adult ticket CNY 100, one-way cable car CNY 50). If you have the energy, just walk the core canyon section. You can add Yugu Cave for CNY 65, Baicaopan for CNY 60, or Longmen Tianguan for CNY 50, depending on your leg strength. Honestly, wearing dress shoes into the canyon is just stupid; non-slip sneakers + a thin jacket is the survival combo, otherwise you'll be crying after the hike 👟. If you don't like hiking, go to the Western Qing Tombs (adults CNY 108, students/seniors CNY 54). Take your time walking the Tailing Sacred Way and the Chongling Underground Palace; the ancient pines and autumn colors are quiet and relaxing. Have some home-style cooking in Yixian County for lunch (CNY 40–60 per person), then head back to the city or stay the night 🍁. If you want to see water on the third day, go to Baiyangdian. A round-trip boat ride from the East Pier plus the Lotus Grand View Garden/Cultural Garden combo is around CNY 100. Just taking a boat to relax is also fine, costing CNY 80–100+. It's the end of the lotus season in September and the reeds are just starting to turn yellow, so don't set your expectations too high, or your "filter" will collapse 🚤. I don't recommend taking private boats on the roadside; buy official tickets on Trip.com or at the official pier to avoid mid-trip price hikes that will drive you crazy. If you're traveling with kids or seniors, don't cram Baiyangdian + Bailixia + Western Qing Tombs into one day—that's not a vacation, it's a boot camp, and you'll regret it 👋. Let's do a final tally 💰. September in Baoding is crisp and cool; it's not sunny during the day and cool in the morning/evening, so you must bring a thin jacket. Those who don't will suffer when the wind blows by the Ancient Lotus Pond 🧥. For a three-day, two-night trip without crazy shopping: two nights in an economy hotel in the city is about CNY 180–280, and a comfort-tier hotel is about CNY 300–440. Admission tickets for just the Governor's Office + Lotus Pond + Huai Army Command Post are about CNY 85. Add the Paleozoological Museum (CNY 40), Bailixia (CNY 100), and Western Qing Tombs (CNY 108) depending on your route. You can eat very well for CNY 80–120 per day, rotating between donkey burgers, beef soup with pancakes, steamed buns, and Zhili cuisine 🍜. Overall, you can have a comfortable trip for CNY 600–1,200 per person. For budget travel, stick to the city + bikes; for a slightly more luxurious trip, add one outlying scenic spot. Book hotels and tickets on Trip.com in advance, and check reviews and opening hours. Some city museums might be closed on Mondays, and you'll be devastated if you show up for nothing 🗓️. Don't wear high heels to walk the old streets in September, don't trust illegal taxis at the station, and don't buy overpriced pickles at the entrance of scenic spots. Remember these three things, and Baoding is actually really affordable and great for photos ✨.

Baiyangdian Lake

Baiyangdian truly lives up to its name as the Pearl of North China. Boating through the reed marshes is incredibly atmospheric, and in summer, the vast lotus ponds stretch as far as the eye can see, creating a breathtaking scene. The Lotus Grand View Garden offers a variety of lotus flowers, while the Gazi Village and the Wild Goose Team Memorial Hall in the Cultural Garden are educational and suitable for families with children. Boating on the water is a fantastic experience, and you can even spot water birds. Overall, it's a great short trip for those from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and I highly recommend visiting during the summer when the lotus flowers are in bloom for the best experience.

Xiong'an Impression

This road trip to Hebei included a special trip for the children to the Xiong'an Impression Exhibition Hall, allowing them to immerse themselves in understanding this city of the future. The exhibition hall is divided into three main areas: symbiosis, co-construction, and sharing. Naked-eye 3D light and shadow, AR interaction, and a huge city model vividly present Xiong'an's past, present, and future. The light and shadow painting of Baiyangdian Lake helped the children understand the original water town atmosphere of this land; the giant 3D sand table intuitively displayed the three cities above ground, underground, and in the clouds, captivating the children's attention. There were also digital cycling and interactive installations, offering educational experiences beyond dry text explanations. The only downside is that the first-floor exhibition hall is not large; the entire experience takes about thirty minutes.

The environment was fantastic! We truly experienced the beauty of "lotus leaves stretching to the sky, an endless expanse of green; lotus blossoms blooming red under the sun." A gentle breeze and bright sunshine filled the air! The two elderly people had a wonderful time.

Rest areas and restaurants are also available, so you don't have to carry heavy bags the whole time. - **Rich Activities:** Beyond animal viewing, you can enjoy rides, shows, and the adorable animal enclosure, making it suitable for a half-day to full-day trip. Disadvantages: - The park is large and can be tiring: If you want to visit both the animal area and the play area, you'll need to walk a lot. For families with young children, it's recommended to rent a stroller or plan your route in advance. - Crowds are common during holidays: Long queues and parking difficulties are common during peak holiday and weekend periods, which can negatively impact the experience. - Some facilities are somewhat traditional: The park's overall layout resembles an urban amusement park, and not all attractions are particularly innovative; some rides have height or age restrictions. - Dining options are limited: There are restaurants on site, but the taste and selection may be limited. It's recommended to bring your own water and snacks. On a nice day, you can bring your own tent or camping gear. A great place for families with children to relax.

Baiyangdian Scenic Area - Gazi Village

Gazi Village was built in the Baiyangdian Cultural Park, an old revolutionary base. It is surrounded by water on three sides, with pleasant scenery and verdant reeds near the village. A statue of Little Soldier Zhang Ga is located at the entrance of the village. The narrow streets in the village are connected and winding, and the farmhouses have their own houses and courtyards, which are simple and elegant, with different patterns and styles.

Zhili Governor-General's Office

A great tourist attraction, well worth a visit. This used to be the office of what is now equivalent to that of a top-level city official. Besides the office space, there's also a very beautiful garden, comparable to the famous gardens of Suzhou.
