The last time Pandy visited Cambridge was 14 years ago in winter. So, this summer, I specifically arranged a 4-day trip, wanting to truly experience the cultural rhythm here. The serviced apartment I stayed at this time, The Hobson Cambridge by Adina, is located in a protected historic building. The heavy Victorian brick facade, stained glass windows, vaulted stone staircases... the charm of the old building has not faded. The hotel is located on St Andrew's Street in the heart of Cambridge, within walking distance of King's College and the Fitzwilliam Museum. Punting on the River Cam and the college walks are all within easy reach. The cultural moments of the Cambridge university town are right at your fingertips. Carrying the stories of the centuries-old city of Cambridge, Hobson House is a complete history from charitable relief to urban governance, and finally to modern rebirth. Its name is closely linked to the legendary 17th-century Cambridge figure, Thomas Hobson. The story began in 1628 when Cambridge merchant Thomas set up stables. Later, he funded the establishment of an almshouse here. Later, the old building was demolished to make way for a new police and fire station complex. In 1901, the new building, designed by architect John Morley, was completed at a cost of £15,000. For the next century, Hobson House remained the hub for Cambridge's police and fire services until 2019, when the building was approved for conversion into a boutique hotel. Adina, from Australia, transformed it into the brand's first aparthotel in the UK, reactivating this century-old building. Unlike the typically cramped standard hotel rooms in the UK, all rooms here are apartments. Each one is equipped with a fully furnished kitchenette, complete with pots, pans, and tableware, allowing you to freely prepare simple meals. This is especially friendly for long-term travelers who don't want to rely solely on restaurants. If you aren't used to the local food or are traveling with children, you can prepare meals according to your own tastes. There is a supermarket right across the street from the hotel. If you plan to slow down and stay in Cambridge for a while, you might as well pick up some ingredients on your way and cook leisurely back in your room. The room I stayed in even had an old fireplace. Original wooden beams, stone carvings, red bricks, arched windows... under the sunlight, it displayed the elegance of time. The atrium restaurant, "Oz & Isle," specializes in Australian-British fusion small plates. Enjoy a buffet English breakfast during the day, and it's perfect for a drink and chat at dusk. I tried a few dishes this time and liked them quite a bit. "Verbena Artichoke Salad" - light and gentle, perfect for a Cambridge summer. "Flame-seared Mackerel" - the mackerel, lightly seared over an open flame, carries a faint smoky aroma, and the rich fish oil releases the flavors of the sea. "Grilled Beef Skirt Steak" - this cut has a unique chewiness, and grilling locks in the juices; pairing it with an Australian wine balances the palate well. "Orange Isle" - centered on citrus flavors, sweet and sour, and gentle. So, it's not that there's no good food in the UK; maybe you just haven't chosen the right restaurant.

The first stop of the trip to the UK was Cambridge. The sky was not as clear as expected; gloomy clouds hung low over the town, and the wind carried a cool dampness, unexpectedly matching the quiet temperament of this century-old university. Boarding a traditional flat-bottomed punt, the punter gently pushed the pole, and the boat slowly glided into the gentle waves of the Cam. Without the sunlight’s reflection, the buildings on both banks appeared more solid, the ivy-covered stone walls showing a warm gray tone, and the Gothic spires outlined crisp yet soft shapes against the overcast sky. The boat moved slowly, the water rippled gently, and even the sound of the wind softened. Passing by the Mathematical Bridge at Queens’ College, the intricate wooden construction looked even more rustic under the gloomy light, its craftsmanship without a single nail or bolt hiding understated wisdom. Not far away, the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College stood quietly, the enclosed corridor bridge wrapped in a chill, with the weathered marks on the bricks and stones bearing the imprint of time. The silhouette of King’s College Chapel swept across the water; the grand vertical Gothic architecture remained solemn under the clouds. Though the stained glass windows were not as dazzling as on a sunny day, they added a serene atmosphere, their reflections gently swaying in the gray-blue river. The punter softly narrated stories of the banks; the apple trees of Trinity College were faintly hidden in the greenery, and occasionally students sat quietly by the river reading, their clothes gently brushed by the breeze. There was no noise, only the gentle rocking of the boat and the murmuring water, even the wild ducks swam leisurely by, making the whole world feel exceptionally peaceful. It turns out that a cloudy Cambridge is never a regret. Without the enhancement of light and shadow, one can better understand its true nature. The eight centuries of academic heritage are hidden in every brick and every ripple, unpretentious yet deeply moving. This water journey, as the opening chapter of the UK trip, was exactly an unexpected encounter with gentleness and tranquility.

When you enter the Great Court of the college, the magnificent architecture brings a sense of awe. In the lobby of the church are jade statues of famous graduates from Trinity College, including Newton, Bacon, Tennyson and others.

苏河家园Newton's Apple Tree Walking to Newton's tree🍎🌳 Note: Newton discovered gravity because of an apple. Although it was later verified that the original apple tree had been destroyed by a storm in 1820, the one you see now was transplanted from Newton's hometown.
MaBellukThis photo was taken at night, so the clock is a little unclear. However, standing in front of it and watching it ticking forward, I still feel a little nervous. After all, no one can control time.
