Exploring the Mayan Ruins | Chichen Itza, Mexico — traveler post in Chichen Itza

Exploring the Mayan Ruins | Chichen Itza, Mexico

Can you travel to Mexico alone? Is it safe? Do people speak English there? Aren't the ruins located in remote areas? How's the access? These are some of the common questions I receive. This time, I’ll introduce Chichen Itza, the most famous and easily accessible Mayan ruins in Mexico 🌟 📍Chichen Itza Located on the Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza is a renowned Mayan archaeological site. Fun fact: the ruins inspired the design of the Indiana Jones attraction building at DisneySea! The most common way to visit is from Cancun. I opted for a tour since the cost of transportation was not significantly different from going solo. The tour not only covers Chichen Itza but also includes stops at a cenote, tequila tasting, a Mexican buffet, and visits to charming towns along the way 🌮🍻 The Yucatan Peninsula is a hot and humid region in Mexico, so make sure to prepare for the heat 🫠. On the day I visited, the temperature peaked at 41°C. The sunlight is intense and unlike anything in Japan 🌞. Be cautious as there’s little shade while exploring the ruins. As for the cenote, you can choose whether to swim or not. If you decide to swim, you’ll need to pay extra for a life jacket. Since I can’t swim, I opted to wait outside. There are open-air cafes and restaurants where you can relax during the wait. For those who want to swim, shower facilities are available, so no worries. While English isn’t widely spoken in Mexico, it can be a bit daunting for those unfamiliar with international travel. However, joining a tour ensures that English-speaking staff will guide you through various spots, making it stress-free. Covering so many attractions on the Yucatan Peninsula in just one day makes tours highly recommended ☺️

✨A day trip from Cancun, where we honeymooned! The power of Chichen Itza, a World Heritage Site✨ — traveler post in Chichen Itza

✨A day trip from Cancun, where we honeymooned! The power of Chichen Itza, a World Heritage Site✨

While on our honeymoon in Cancun, we took a day trip to the World Heritage Site of Chichen Itza. A Japanese guide organized a tour exclusively for Japanese people. (I looked online and found that there weren't many options, so I think most of them were from the same agent! (^^)!) El Castillo (the pyramid), a symbol of Mayan civilization, was even more impressive than it appears in photos; it was breathtaking. The vast grounds are home to temples and ball courts, and it was a valuable experience experiencing the lives and beliefs of ancient people. We also enjoyed swimming in a cenote! The stories of Mayan history were fascinating. Although there were many tourists, the area was spacious and not cramped, and walking while listening to the guide's explanations was more moving than just touring ruins. The sun was very strong, so a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water were essential. This is an absolute must-see spot on your trip to Mexico, and will leave you with special honeymoon memories. #ChichenItza #CancunTrip #MexicoTrip #Honeymoon #WorldHeritage #MayanCivilization #YucatanPeninsula #Pyramids #TravelMemorableSpot #Mexico #mexico #cancun #chichenitza #honeymoon #honeymoontrip

Chichen Itza Ruins

Joined a one-day guided tour to visit the famous Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. We arrived right at the 10:00 AM opening time, and thanks to our local guide, we were the first group to enter. This allowed us to take photos with fewer people around. The site is teeming with life—you can spot lizards basking in the sun, butterflies fluttering about, and small animals running across the grass. The ruins feature intricate details in different directions, which require explanations from a local guide to fully appreciate. It's truly a fascinating place worth exploring.

[World Heritage Site] Information for making the most of Chichen Itza

I visited Chichen Itza, a World Heritage Site on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, in February during its best season. I'll share the information I learned from my visit to Chichen Itza to make the most of it. 🕰️Recommended time to visit The sun gets stronger and hotter from around 12:00. Also, as time passes after the opening, the number of tour groups increases. I recommend arriving at the ticket office before 8:00 and entering immediately after opening to see Chichen Itza with fewer customers and relatively mild sunlight. ✳️If it is already crowded when you arrive, you can also use a guide service with priority entry privileges. 🚍️Recommended way to get there There are tours that depart from the Cancun area between 4:00 and 5:00, but it is early in the morning and the round-trip bus ride takes a long time of 6 to 7 hours. My recommendation is to stay in Valladolid, which is just under an hour away by bus, and then go to Chichen Itza. There is a shared bus from this town to Chichen Itza. The shared bus stop opens at 6:30 and departs as soon as the bus arrives and the passengers have gathered. When I took the bus in February 2025, the fare was 100 Mexican pesos round trip. 👜 Recommended items to bring The maximum size of carry-on luggage is 30cm long x 20cm wide x 20cm high. To protect against the heat and sunlight, we recommend bringing a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and drinks. There are few places to buy drinks inside the ruins. Please note that there is an additional fee for bringing a camera. There is no additional fee for taking photos with a smartphone. 📷️Especially crowded spots The "Castillo (Pyramid of Kukulkan)" (1st and 2nd images) and the "Ball Court" are particularly crowded, so if you want to take photos with fewer people in them, we recommend going to these spots early. 🌼Other attractions The high-rise tomb (3rd and 4th images) also contains a statue of Kukulkan, a god in the form of a feathered snake. You can also feel the height of the Mayan civilization's astronomical knowledge at Caracol (observation deck). The Temple of the Warriors and the Stone Colonnade area have countless columns, which are also spectacular. (5th image) If you are going around without a guide, there are explanatory signs near the ruins where you can learn about the ruins. 🕰️Opening hours: 8:00-16:00 💰Price per person: 671 Mexican pesos (for foreign tourists) Please check the latest information as it may change. #Overseas travel strategy

One of the seven wonders of the world 🗺️ ⭐️

If visiting Yucatan’s part of Mexico, from Cancun to Tulum, Chichen Itza is a must stop! This ancient city is filled with a thousand years of history and it is just amazing. Pro tip: get there early, right when they open (8am). You will avoid crowds (better photos and less people) and high temperatures (it gets super hot and humid). #wecreate #chichenitza #mytripvlog #summervacation #passionpassport #mexico #sevenwondersoftheworld

To Chichen Itza, Mexico 🇲🇽 — traveler post in Chichen Itza

To Chichen Itza, Mexico 🇲🇽

I applied for a tour and left Cancun for Chichen Itza to see the ruins. The car was full of people from various countries. It was full of tourists. After a while, the surroundings were completely different from Cancun. A little off the beaten path, it was a completely different world with a completely different security and scenery. Going through there, we reached Chichen Itza. A large ruin came into view beyond the line of souvenir shops. There is a slight time difference between the locations of Cancun and Chichen Itza even within Mexico. I was impressed by the large Chichen Itza, which I had never seen before. It was full of tourists. I took a lot of unusual photos. Chichen Itza is the center of Mayan civilization. You may be able to feel the mysterious power. #overseastravel #mexico #chichenitza #latinameria

Magical Chichen Itza — traveler post in Chichen Itza

Magical Chichen Itza

I can only describe Chichen Itza in one word: wow. This historical site in Yucatan, Mexico is simply breathtaking. It is known around the world for its majestic pyramid, but there is much more to explore. You can easily visit the site on your own by taking a bus from Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Tulum where most tourists usually stay Getting there will take around two and a half hours. But there are also many day tours organized for roughly 40 dollars including entrance to the site. The actual archeological site is huge, and you can't possibly see it all, so focus on the highlights. Besides the famous pyramid, there is also a kind of ball court where the ancient Mayans used to play sports. You may also explore the surrounding forest where you can spot many species of bird. General Admission: Adults $533 MXN #createwithtrip #CultureWalk

Chichen Itza- Mayan Ruins

Chichen Itza is well connected to major cities in Mexico. It is located in Yucatán Peninsula and near to Cancun. One can take flight to Cancun and take a Day tour to Chichen Itza. There are different ways to reach there from Cancun. One can take Private Buses, Tour Buses, or can drive by Car. Roads from Cancun to Chichen Itza are very good and easy to drive. Tours will combine several attractions like Canote so this is also good way to explore Chechen Itza. Once you are there you need to buy entry Ticket and then you are free to explore Chichen Itza Complex. It’s gets really hot in afternoon so arrive early to avoid rush and heat. There are multiple ruins in this complex and can take from 3-4 hours to explore. Later you can head to one of the Canote and take bath also after paying some money. This Canote is outside of Chichen Itza Complex. There will be several shops inside near pyramid where you get souvenirs. #museumquest

My third Wonder of the World: Chichén Itzá
My third wonder o — traveler post in Chichen Itza

My third Wonder of the World: Chichén Itzá My third wonder of the modern world: a Mayan engineering and architecture masterpiece in the wilderness of Yucatan (Mexico). El Castillo is certainly the symbol of Chichen Itza and was built to be a real calendar. During the spring and autumn equinoxes, as the sun goes down and the sun rises, the corners of the pyramid cast a feathered serpent-shaped shadow, Kukulkan; clapping his hands the sound that breaks against the steps (inclined at 45 degrees) reproduces the bird of paradise's own verse and during the ceremonies the Mayan kings made blood flow along the corners of the pyramid to call the god of rain to earth. The sensations that are perceived here are really intense, an energy difficult to explain in words, but I hope that these shots will get you there at least a little. We visited this Mayan site in February and the jungle temperatures are really high. Bring lots of water with you and try to avoid the central hours of the day. Recommended the visit with a Mayan guide, you will fall in love with his words. In the meantime, I hope that my next wonder of the world could be the Taj Mahal, and instead you, which one would you choose? #awesomepic #mexico #couplestrip #historicallandmarks #worldheritage

Warriors' Temple

The Temple of the Warriors is an important part of the Chichen Itza archaeological site. Built in the 10th century after the Toltec civilization's invasion of Mexico, this pyramid temple served as the religious and ruling center of the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza. Its architecture is a step pyramid, with a feathered serpent statue guarding the entrance, and the roof supported by pillars sculpted into warrior figures, reflecting the Toltecs' integration of military elements into religious architecture. The temple's worship of the feathered serpent through human sacrifice reflects the Toltecs' religious strategy of strengthening their rule through divine authority, and its architectural style and belief system had a profound influence on the later Aztec civilization.
