Want to eat like a local? Don't miss out on these top Durham dishes and foodie spots.

If you’re visiting Durham and want to experience a proper English afternoon tea without spending a fortune, we found a place we’d happily recommend. ☕🤍 During our day trip to Durham (we’ve already shared the full itinerary in another post) we stopped at Treats Cafe & Tea Room in the late afternoon, just before catching our train home. It was actually our first time trying a traditional English afternoon tea, and we couldn’t have picked a better place for it. 📍 Location: 10, 11 Silver St, Durham DH1 3RB, United Kingdom Silver Street is right in the centre of Durham, just after Framwellgate Bridge and on the way to Durham Market Hall. The café itself is beautiful and incredibly cosy, with soft pastel colours and a charming atmosphere. It’s also very photogenic, if you’re looking for a pretty place to stop for a break. 📸 The service was lovely too, which made the experience even better. ☕ Afternoon Tea for Two — £44 The afternoon tea costs £44 for two people (£22 each), and we thought it was excellent value for money considering how much food you get. And when we say it was a lot… it was a LOT. 😂 We couldn’t finish everything, so we actually took some of it with us for later. The afternoon tea included: 🥪 Sandwiches — with a choice of fillings 🍰 Two cakes — you can choose from the available flavours, including cheese or fruit options 🥧 2 slices of corned beef pie 🥚 2 slices of Quiche ☕ Two hot drinks from their extensive drinks menu Everything was delicious, and it was such a lovely way to end our day exploring Durham. For us, afternoon tea wasn’t just about the food, it was also about trying something we’d never experienced before and enjoying a little piece of British culture before catching our train. 💡 Our tip If you’re visiting Durham and want to try English afternoon tea, we’d definitely recommend giving Treats Cafe & Tea Room a try. The central location, beautiful atmosphere, generous portions and the price made it a great choice for us. The afternoon tea is served as a set for two people, priced at £44 (£22 per person). So if you’re travelling solo, keep in mind that the menu is designed for two rather than being available as a single portion. And yes… we left Durham with full stomachs and a little afternoon tea to enjoy later. 😂🤍 Have you ever tried an English afternoon tea? What’s your favourite part: the sandwiches, cakes or tea? ☕🍰👇
Dear Us1
I visited Duke University to experience the campus atmosphere. 🎓 As I entered the campus, the combination of historic buildings and expansive lawns created a serene yet majestic ambiance. The architecture scattered throughout the campus seemed to reflect the school's tradition and history. Walking slowly through the campus, I could observe the daily lives of students and enjoy the relaxed scenery, naturally blending into the space. Duke University felt more like a city than just a school. It was a wonderful time to quietly stroll and soak in the atmosphere. 🌿✨

I visited Duke Sara Garden, a place where you can enjoy lush greenery and beautiful garden scenery. 🌿 The garden is filled with various plants and flowers, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll and exploration. Walking along the nature trails, I had a relaxing and peaceful time. Taking photos of the garden views or sitting down for a moment allowed me to experience a calm atmosphere, distinct from the bustling city. It's also a great place to appreciate the changing scenery with each season. This is an ideal spot for a tranquil walk and a relaxing break in the midst of nature. 🌸✨

Among the many impressive locations on American university campuses, Duke Chapel stands out. Located at the heart of Duke University's campus, this iconic building is a stunning example of Gothic architecture that catches your eye even from a distance. Up close, its sheer scale and intricate details are truly breathtaking. Inside the chapel, the high ceilings and stained glass windows create a serene and reverent atmosphere. Visitors are welcome to explore, making it a perfect spot to stop by while touring the campus. Surrounding the chapel are expansive lawns and walking paths, ideal for enjoying the campus scenery and capturing memorable photos. The stained glass windows are especially beautiful when sunlight streams through them. ✔️ A must-see landmark on a prestigious American university campus ✔️ Gothic-style architecture ✔️ Perfect for photography If you visit Duke University, this is a symbolic space you shouldn't miss. It's one of the best places to experience the campus's unique ambiance. ✨

#MarchTravelEvent A memorable campus from my trip to the Eastern United States: Duke University. Located in Durham, North Carolina, this prestigious private university immediately catches your eye the moment you step onto the campus, thanks to the grandeur of its Gothic-style buildings. The chapel, in particular, is much more imposing in person than in photos. The campus itself is spacious and well-maintained, much like a park, making it perfect for a stroll. With its well-kept lawns and trees, it felt like a relaxed environment despite being an academic space. The students also exuded a free and energetic vibe, making the entire campus seem full of energy. Since tourists can visit relatively freely, it is a great addition to a campus tour or a casual walking route. It is a place where you can experience firsthand the open and relaxed atmosphere characteristic of American universities. ✔️ Eastern US Campus Tour ✔️ A Prestigious University Perfect for Photos ✔️ A Quiet Walking Course If you are considering attending a U.S. university or studying abroad, this is a campus worth visiting in person at least once. The atmosphere alone was motivating. 🌿✨

Haha, I’ve truly become an incredibly happy person wandering around the beautiful campus of Duke University! 🍂 Every day, I stroll under the dappled shadows of the trees, thinking as I walk, and my mood couldn’t be better. I even made a special trip to the Duke University Library, where I found some of my favorite journals and books, giving me that little sense of happiness 📖. The library is quiet and cozy, and reading while gazing at the maple leaves outside the window, with their gradient colors paired with the wooden tables, makes every photo look like a stylish postcard! This time, I stayed at the Duke University Inn, located at 502 Elf St. The hotel’s biggest selling point is its proximity to the campus—it’s right next to the hospital, sports fields, and theater, making it perfect for both artsy types and sports enthusiasts! Plus, there’s a free shuttle to take you to the campus, so no hassle at all. The rooms are clean and tidy, super comfortable, and the staff are very nice, even offering services in Chinese, which is super thoughtful for first-time visitors to Durham. If you ever get the chance, you must experience the rich cultural atmosphere and natural beauty of Duke University for yourself—it’ll instantly turn you into a happy little angel! 👼🏻

#NovemberTravelGrant The Water Garden, Tranquility in the Flow of Time #NovemberTravelGrant #WaterGarden #Peace #SoundsOfNature The Water Garden, a key element of Sarah P. Duke Gardens, is a peaceful space where the sounds of waterfalls and small streams serve as background music. In November, the water flow is even more clearly audible, offering not only visual beauty but also auditory healing. The Water Garden was designed to take advantage of the natural slope of the terrain, and the cascading waterfalls create a dynamic yet tranquil scene. Aquatic plants surround the water, but in late autumn, the main attraction is the fallen leaves and the sparkling water. Crossing the wooden bridge to the sound of the water or sitting on a bench near the water's edge can be a soothing experience. This is the perfect place for those who want to forget their worries and stresses and simply relax in harmony with nature's rhythm. We hope you'll use your #NovemberTravelSupport to experience true peace in the tranquil and vibrant water gardens of late autumn.

#NovemberTravelGrant Outdoor Sculptures and Artistic Elements at Duke Gardens #NovemberTravelGrant #OutdoorSculpture #GardenArt #CulturalLife Sarah P. Duke Gardens offers a rich cultural experience not only through its plants but also through the sculptures and artistic elements meticulously placed throughout the gardens. The Doris Duke Center area, in particular, features contemporary sculptures that blend harmoniously with nature, adding to the enjoyment of strolling through the gardens. These works of art stand out against the garden's verdant backdrop, offering visitors a chance to consider the relationship between nature and art from a variety of perspectives. In November, as the leaves fall and the landscape clears, these outdoor sculptures become even more striking. As the plants recede into the background, the forms and lines of the sculptures become even more clearly visible. If you're looking to experience the visual delights of the gardens in addition to their botanical beauty, we highly recommend exploring Duke Gardens. Take advantage of your #NovemberTravelGrant and enjoy the unique experience of appreciating art amidst nature.

#NovemberTravelGrant H.L. Blomquist Native Plant Garden, A Place for Late Autumn Ecological Learning #NovemberTravelGrant #NativePlantGarden #QuietWalk #EnvironmentalConservation In contrast to the other vibrant areas of the Sarah P. Duke Garden, the H.L. Blomquist Native Plant Garden is the quietest and most educational space. A visit here in November offers more than just viewing the fall foliage; it offers a deeper understanding of the unique ecosystems and plant life cycles of the Piedmont region of North America. In late autumn, the Native Plant Garden offers the allure of seeds, dried stems, and evergreens with their distinctive textures, rather than the vibrant colors. Here, you can focus on the forms and structures of plants that are often overlooked during the peak flowering season. The trails lead deep into the forest, creating a peaceful atmosphere where the only sound is the crunch of fallen leaves. I found true healing in this tranquility. This area, in particular, features a space dedicated to preserving and researching endangered local plants, fostering a deeper understanding of the preciousness of nature and the importance of its preservation. If you're visiting with children, the plant name tags can serve as a living ecological textbook. I felt that the calm, contemplative atmosphere of November perfectly suited this native botanical garden. For travelers seeking to utilize their #NovemberTravelSupport and escape the bustle of the city and truly connect with nature, I highly recommend this quiet forest path. There's no better place to enjoy solitary contemplation.

#NovemberTravelSupport The Sky Reflected in the Pond: The Serenity of Virtue Peace Pond #NovemberTravelSupport #PondReflection #Serenity #Peace Virtue Peace Pond, as its name suggests, offers tranquility and peace. When the clear blue sky of November perfectly reflects on the pond's surface, the sight creates an optical illusion, as if two worlds are merging. Benches are placed around the pond, allowing visitors to pause and admire this peaceful scene. Although most of the surrounding flowers have fallen in late autumn, the lush trees surrounding the pond are softly tinted with yellow and brown, adding a calming and warm tone. I visited early in the morning and witnessed the pond lightly covered in mist, creating a mystical atmosphere that was indescribable. The sight of ducks and geese leisurely gliding across the water offers a sense of relaxation. This is the perfect place to pause from your busy thoughts, listen to the sounds of nature, and meditate. If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful time at the end of autumn, I highly recommend taking your #NovemberTravelSupport and sitting on the bench by the pond here. You'll feel peace permeating deep within you.
The core scenic spot of Duke University is worth visiting.
深圳加油~was very disappointing not to be able to ride the train, as there was some sort of 'Pumpkin Patch' event going on, but we will catch that the next time we go!
