Jining Fenghuangtai Botanical Garden | Spider lily photo spot, catch the last of September's autumn red — traveler post in Jining

Jining Fenghuangtai Botanical Garden | Spider lily photo spot, catch the last of September's autumn red

🌺 The spider lilies are in full bloom, miss them and you'll have to wait another year In the shade under Fenghuang Pavilion, patches of spider lilies are quietly blooming. Mostly red, with some yellow, pink, and white, they bring a cool and soothing vibe. The red lycoris radiata are especially striking against the greenery, and any photo you take will look like a stunning autumn shot. 📍 Specific location: In the shade around the high platform of Fenghuang Pavilion. Fenghuang Pavilion is the highest point in the park, and the antique-style flying eaves make for great photos. Enter from the South Gate and head toward the center of the park to find it. · -- 🚌 Transportation & basic info Bus: Routes 33, 86, and 38 all go directly there. The stop is right at the entrance, and it only costs 1 yuan. Search for "Fenghuangtai Botanical Garden" on your navigation app; driving is also convenient, with 300 to 500 parking spaces available. Admission: Free, open all day (6:00 AM–6:30 PM) Address: Guanghe West Road, Rencheng District, Jining City (west side of the intersection of West Outer Ring Road/National Highway 105 and Guanghe West Road) · -- 📸 Photography tips Spider lilies are short, so I recommend crouching or taking low-angle shots with the flying eaves of Fenghuang Pavilion in the background for a full traditional aesthetic. The flower fields are concentrated in the shade around Fenghuang Pavilion; the colors actually look more translucent in the diffused light of a cloudy day. The light is soft and not harsh from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, which is perfect for portraits. · -- ⚠️ Important reminder The entire spider lily plant is toxic and contains lycorine. Ingestion can cause vomiting and spasms, and those with allergies may have a reaction if they touch it. Please only view them from a distance; do not pick or touch them. Visitors with children should be especially careful to supervise them. · -- "The spider lily blooms for a thousand years and falls for a thousand years; the flowers and leaves never meet." The lycoris radiata blooms around the Autumn Equinox, hence the name "other shore flower," and its flower language is "eternal longing." September is its most beautiful season, so find some free time to visit Fenghuangtai for an autumn rendezvous 🌺

Luyuan Village at the foot of Nishan, Qufu: A thousand-year journey into a traditional Chinese dream — traveler post in Jining

Luyuan Village at the foot of Nishan, Qufu: A thousand-year journey into a traditional Chinese dream

If you only visit the "Three Confucius Sites" in Qufu, you have only experienced the solemn side of Confucian culture. Luyuan Village, adjacent to the Nishan Sacred Land, offers a fresher, more youthful way to step into "Confucius's ideal world." This ancient village replicates the style of the Spring and Autumn period, where bluestone paths and black-tiled eaves create a picturesque scene at every turn. You can stroll along the "Analects Trail" engraved with famous quotes from sages, or visit the intangible cultural heritage workshops to experience Lujin weaving or Analects rubbing—perfect for an educational trip with children. You might even encounter NPCs dressed in Hanfu on the street for interactive poetry recitations, where you can win small cultural souvenirs. The sense of immersion is incredible. When night falls, the fish lantern parade winds through the streets. The water-based live performance, light show, and molten iron fireworks filling the sky perfectly capture the romance of "a night of dancing fish and dragons." We recommend arriving in the afternoon to enjoy both the day and night views. Transportation: Navigate to "Nishan Tourist Center." Parking is free. The entrance is shared with the Nishan Sacred Land, and you can purchase joint tickets to visit both attractions.

Jining Weishan Lake: A 25°C lotus breeze rendezvous in a northern water town — traveler post in Jining

Jining Weishan Lake: A 25°C lotus breeze rendezvous in a northern water town

"The sun in the west is setting, and Weishan Lake is quiet..." An old song has etched this, the largest freshwater lake in the north, into the hearts of many. In midsummer, the 100,000 mu of lotus flowers in the Weishan Lake Tourist Area bloom in succession. As you boat through the lotus ponds, a breeze carrying a faint lotus fragrance greets you, and you are met with the breathtaking sight of "lotus leaves stretching to the horizon in endless green." Weishan Island, located within the scenic area, is also the former retreat of Weizi, a virtuous minister of the Yin and Shang dynasties. At the Weizi Cultural Garden, you can watch the immersive epic drama "Dream Back to Chaoge," where actors move through ancient buildings, weaving the history of the Yin and Shang dynasties and Weizi culture into the narrative. Visitors can walk through the realistic sets to interact with history and enjoy trendy experiences like dressing in traditional costumes and interacting with NPCs for photo ops. As for food, the floating fish ball soup is a must. Tender, white fish balls float in a clear broth, and one bite sends a wave of umami down your throat. The salted duck eggs are so rich they ooze oil when cut; a sandy egg yolk paired with a bowl of white porridge is enough to keep you full all morning. The lotus season at Weishan Lake (June–August) offers the most beautiful scenery, but it is also the most crowded. For a quieter experience, we recommend avoiding weekends and staying at a local homestay on the island to catch the sunrise the next day. Rent a boat during the day to explore the reed marshes, and watch the sunset by the lake in the evening—the pristine, wild charm is even more moving than you might imagine. This lake, with its profound revolutionary history and the healing power of a slow-paced life, is a hidden gem of a water town that is worth a second visit.

Wear Tang suits at Mu's Residence in Lijiang and capture photos of a lifetime! — traveler post in Jining

Wear Tang suits at Mu's Residence in Lijiang and capture photos of a lifetime!

"The Forbidden City of the North, Mu's Residence of the South." After visiting Lijiang so many times, I finally stepped into this "Forbidden City" hidden within the ancient town! Xu Xiake once marveled at its "palatial splendor, comparable to royalty," and the moment I pushed open the vermilion gate, I truly understood. This Naxi chieftain's mansion, which spans the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, covers an area of 46 mu, with a central axis 369 meters long. The Hall of Deliberation, Wanjuan Tower, and Guardian Hall are laid out in layers along the mountain, so magnificent it feels like walking onto a historical drama set. 📸 4 must-visit spots for Tang suit photos! 1️⃣ Zhongyi Stone Archway, the entrance to Mu's Residence. The white marble archway paired with vermilion wooden doors is perfect for ancient-style blockbusters in the soft morning light! 2️⃣ Hall of Deliberation, where the chieftain deliberated. Stand on the central axis and shoot with a wide-angle lens for a strong sense of depth. 3️⃣ Second-floor corridor of Wanjuan Tower, a hidden gem! The vermilion window lattices paired with carved wooden railings make skin look translucent in side light. You can also use the window frame to capture Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. This building appears to have two stories from the outside but has three inside, incorporating the essence of the Confucius Temple in Shandong and the Kuixing Tower in Beijing, full of ancient charm! 4️⃣ Top floor of Sanqing Hall, offering a panoramic view of the entire Lijiang Ancient Town. The dark green glazed tiles of Mu's Residence are layered, creating a super stunning sight! The architecture of Mu's Residence blends the Ming Dynasty Central Plains palace style with Naxi and Bai ethnic carving art. The red walls and yellow tiles against the blue sky and white clouds create vibrant saturation. Red brick walls and Tang suits make for instant ancient-style blockbusters! There are many shops in the ancient town that rent Tang suits and Hanfu for CNY 150/day, including makeup and hair. Wearing one and walking through the red-pillared corridors truly feels like traveling back in time. 🎫 Practical information No. 49 Guanyuan Alley, Guangyi Street, Lijiang Ancient Town 🎫 Admission: CNY 40 ⏰ 8:30 AM–5:30 PM (last entry at 5:30 PM). Some dates also open at night from 7:30 PM–10:00 PM. 💡 Free guided tours are available at the entrance. It's recommended to join one first, then explore and take photos at your own pace. If you've only explored the ancient town and haven't visited Mu's Residence, it's truly like only reading half of Lijiang's history. Dedicate half a day to Mu's Residence, wear a Tang suit, and dream of a journey through centuries ✨

Qufu's Temple and Cemetery of Confucius and Kong Family Mansion

The combined ticket for the Three Confucian Sites is valid for two days and includes the Temple of Confucius, the Confucius Mansion, and the Cemetery of Confucius—three World Heritage sites, making it highly valuable. The ancient architecture of the Temple of Confucius is magnificent, the dragon-carved stone pillars of the Dacheng Hall are truly awe-inspiring, and the ancient cypress trees and inscriptions are steeped in history. A guided tour is highly recommended; otherwise, it's easy to rush through the exhibits. It's suitable for study tours and for quietly immersing oneself in Confucian culture, making it well worth a special trip.

Nishan Sacred Land

The Nishan Sacred Land package includes the "Golden Sounds and Jade Resonance" performance. The University Hall is the biggest highlight, nestled against the mountain with its magnificent architecture. The Seventy-Two Sages Corridor and the Hall of Benevolence, Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom, and Trust unfold in layers, their exquisite bracket sets showcasing breathtaking Chinese aesthetics. The "Golden Sounds and Jade Resonance" performance blends light and shadow with music and dance, creating a captivating atmosphere and eloquently narrating the culture of rites and music. The park boasts tranquil mountains and waters, and its elegant nighttime lighting offers an immersive experience of traditional culture, making it well worth seeing.

Nishan Cultural Tourism Resort

The hotel is located within the scenic area and has its own parking lot. On our first day, they gave us snacks and drinks, and when we left, they gave us a souvenir—a copy of the Analects of Confucius. The hotel was very clean and tidy, and they upgraded our room for free. Overall, it exceeded our expectations and is a great place to stay when visiting the Confucius Temple, Confucius Mansion, and Confucius Cemetery.

Confucius Temple

The official guide, Mr. Li, was excellent and definitely a plus for our experience at the Confucius Temple! Because it was past the summer holidays, there weren't many tourists, which made it a really pleasant experience. Mr. Li spoke softly and gently, making the explanations very comfortable, and the content was rich and interactive. Highly recommended!

Confucius Museum

Having traveled extensively and visited numerous museums, this was my first time hiring a guided tour. Today, there weren't many people in my group; I was the only one, meaning the guide was essentially providing a one-on-one explanation. Our guide, Wang Xuemei, didn't slack off just because she was only serving one person. Instead, she spoke calmly and patiently, without rushing me. She not only explained the origins and stories of the artifacts but also incorporated current online trends, answering my questions along the way. The guided tour lasted nearly 2.5 hours, truly excellent value for money. It gave me a much deeper understanding of Confucius and Confucianism. Thank you! A must-see!

Weishan Lake Tourist Area

This was my first time visiting the island, and I was impressed by the professionalism and excellent attitude of the staff who operated the ferry, tour bus, and lake boats. Shandong is truly hospitable!

Shuipo Liangshan Scenic Area

Having seen Yang Zhi Selling His Knife, Cleverly Seizing the Birthday Gifts, Wu Song Fighting the Tiger, and the Real and Fake Li Kui, the overall experience was quite good. The only slight regret was that it didn't feel like a deep dive into the story. The staff at the scenic area were very polite and enthusiastic, and there weren't too many tourists, which was acceptable.

Kong Family Mansion

They're all imitation ancient buildings, one large courtyard, overly commercialized. The back garden is alright, but the Confucius Mansion in the Three Confucius Sites area isn't good value for money. It's not as nice as the Confucius Temple.

Nishan Luyuan Village Scenic Area

Although it's a man-made ancient town, it's truly beautiful, especially when the lights are on. The daytime "One Breeze" performance and the evening "Lu Yuan Celebrates a Bountiful Year" show are both spectacular. The downside is the guokui (a type of flatbread) I bought on the intangible cultural heritage street—the beef and preserved vegetable flavors were basically just two pieces of dough with almost no filling, and they weren't cheap either. Be careful when buying from there.
