🇮🇹 Naples (Napoli), Italy — Raw, Romantic & Full of Life — traveler post in Procida

🇮🇹 Naples (Napoli), Italy — Raw, Romantic & Full of Life 🍕🌊 Naples is a city with a completely different energy from the polished streets of northern Italy. It is loud, colorful, historic, chaotic, passionate, and incredibly authentic. Set beside the Bay of Naples with Mount Vesuvius in the distance, the city has an unforgettable character. 🏛️ Historic Naples The Centro Storico is the heart of the city, filled with narrow streets, old churches, tiny alleys, balconies, and centuries-old buildings. Walking along Spaccanapoli, the famous straight street cutting through the historic center, is one of the best ways to experience Naples. ⛪ Beautiful landmarks · Naples Cathedral (Duomo di Napoli) · Santa Chiara Basilica · Sansevero Chapel — famous for the extraordinary Veiled Christ · Castel Nuovo · Castel dell’Ovo · Royal Palace of Naples 🌋 Mount Vesuvius The legendary Mount Vesuvius dominates the landscape. You can hike toward the crater and enjoy spectacular views over the Bay of Naples. 🌋 🏺 Pompeii One of the biggest reasons to visit Naples is its proximity to Pompeii, the ancient Roman city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. Walking through its preserved streets, houses, temples, and theaters feels like traveling back in time. 🏝️ Amalfi Coast & Islands Naples is also an excellent base for exploring Capri, Ischia, Procida, and the Amalfi Coast. Capri’s dramatic cliffs and turquoise Mediterranean waters are particularly spectacular. 🌊 🍕 And of course—Pizza! Naples is the birthplace of Neapolitan pizza. A traditional Margherita pizza, with a soft crust, tomato, mozzarella, and basil, is an essential experience. 🍕❤️ 🌅 Best experience Watch the sunset over the Bay of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius rising in the distance, then wander through the lively streets for an authentic Neapolitan dinner. Naples may not try to be perfect—and that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable. It’s a city of history, food, sea, volcanoes, and pure Italian passion. 🇮🇹❤️🌋

I thought Cinque Terre was beautiful enough, until I visited Procida...

My Italian friend introduced it to me like this: Procida's scenery is uniquely special in Italy After hearing that, I just had to go!! It's a hidden gem worth exploring in the Gulf of Naples If you, like me, seek authentic Italian island charm Then I sincerely suggest adding this place to your travel plans~👏 · ⛴️Transportation ▫️Naples-Procida 11:45-12:25 📍Departure pier: Molo Beverello|🎫Ticket: 22.5€ ▫️Procida-Pozzuoli 18:10-18:40 📍Departure pier: Procida Port|🎫Ticket: 18€ · ☑️5 main check-in spots in Procida 🔹Piazza Marina Grande 🔹Corricella (colorful houses) 🔹Belvedere Corricella (panoramic views) 🔹Panoramica sulla Corricella (viewpoint of the whole island) 🔹Spiaggia libera di Ciraccio (secluded beach) Procida's beauty lies in its more pristine nature Not many posts online, truly a hidden gem The layered colorful houses are perfect for photos The island is small, those with good stamina can walk everywhere As buses often skip stops unpredictably... Or rent an e-bike/motorcycle for a more leisurely island tour The movies "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Il Postino" were filmed here🎬 · ‼️Tips ▪️For Procida, recommend taking Caremar ferries - larger and more stable ▪️For luggage storage when changing cities or after checkout, book convenient spots on Bounce app - covers 90% of Europe. you must visit Procida Island in Italy, a town that looks like a fairy tale world. The guide is here.

Italy's 20 most beautiful small towns 🌷 One of the must-see attractions during a trip to Italy is the stunning scenery of the small towns. Visiting these towns can bring unexpected romance and touch to your Italian journey. It is an unforgettable encounter that you will cherish forever. 🏡 · ── 1️⃣Manarola, Italy Manarola is one of the oldest towns in the five fishing villages of Italy, and is also a popular filming location📷. It is famous for fishing, winemaking, hiking in the mountains, and vineyards that attract tourists. 2️⃣Polignano, Polignano a Mare The famous Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series has been held here. If you want to experience the excitement of cliff diving, this is a good choice. The Parazezeiyan Cave Restaurant in the town is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the world. 🌷 The restaurant is built in a limestone cave by the sea, with the Adriatic Sea at its feet. Dining here, the sound of waves crashing against rocks surpasses the best symphonies in the world. 3️⃣Alberobello Here are over 1000 Trulli houses, with white cone-shaped stone roofs that are likened to "hats dropped by elves in the mortal world" 🍄 It is said that each house has a stone that is a mechanism, and pulling it will cause the entire roof to collapse. So when visiting the village, be sure not to touch the stones on the roofs 😇. 4️⃣Dozza Visiting this small town is an absolute must for art lovers on a trip to Italy. ✅ Since 1960, the town has held an annual oil painting festival, inviting artists from all over the world to come and paint here. Why Procida Is The Repeat Destination You Will Always Want To Return To — traveler post in Procida

Why Procida Is The Repeat Destination You Will Always Want To Return To

I still remember the feeling of stepping off the ferry onto Procida, a tiny gem nestled in Campania, Italy, just a short hop from Naples. While it lives entirely in the shadow of its flashier neighbors like Capri and Ischia, that quiet obscurity is precisely what makes it so enchanting. As I wandered around, I quickly realized why this place pulls you back time and time again; while everyone else crowds the Amalfi Coast, Procida remains an authentic pastel-colored secret. It is a tightly knit fishing island where pastel houses tumble down to dark volcanic sand beaches and wooden fishing boats bob in the harbor of Corricella, creating a scene straight out of a classic Mediterranean dream. There are no massive luxury hotels or chaotic tour buses here, just incredible fresh seafood, slow strolls through lemon groves, and an old-world Italian charm that feels deeply personal and entirely timeless. Every corner feels like a living painting, from the vibrant facades reflecting off the calm harbor waters to the scent of fresh lemons hanging heavily in the quiet air. My favorite local tip is to grab a traditional Lingua di Dièta, a local pastry filled with lemon cream or ricotta, from a neighborhood bakery in the morning before the day warms up, and enjoy it slowly while watching the local fishermen mend their nets by the docks. What truly makes Procida a repeat destination is its rare ability to make you feel like a local rather than just another tourist. Without the frantic rush of major hotspots, days here drift by effortlessly in a rhythm of lazy swims, seaside lunches featuring the catch of the day, and peaceful evening walks under warm lantern light. Once you come here, you just want to come back because the island offers a deep, restorative kind of magic that stays with you long after you leave. It is a place that refuses to change for the modern world, ensuring that every return feels just as magical and welcoming as the very first time. #ProcidaIsland #HiddenItaly #CampaniaDestinations #SlowTravel #ItalianSecret #TravelStories #MediterraneanCharm #repeatdestination

Italy's hidden gem island | A real-life pastel seaside village — traveler post in Procida

Italy's hidden gem island | A real-life pastel seaside village

Procida 2-day 1-night ultimate guide | Colorful Italian island, Southern Italy's pastel fishing village Real-life shots cover everything: pastel-colored seaside houses, harbor fishing boats, a warm yellow domed church, layered hillside dwellings, crystal-clear blue bays, hidden rocky beaches, and balcony flowers in the fishing village—all captured on location. Hidden in the Bay of Naples is Procida, a little-known colorful island. Free from crowds, its hillsides are covered in layers of vibrant pink, yellow, orange, and blue houses. Fishing boats rest in the clear harbor, and the blue sea contrasts with the candy-colored buildings, creating a perfectly relaxed Southern Italian vibe. This guide covers history, route planning, dining, accommodation, and transportation—everything you need for a DIY trip to this Southern Italian island. I. History & photography tips (applies to all photos) Procida is located in the Bay of Naples and is an ancient island in the Campania region. Settled as far back as ancient Greek times, it has historically relied on fishing. The island retains its authentic Mediterranean fishing village charm. Marina Corricella is the island's soul, with layers of colorful dwellings spreading along the hillside down to the pier, where various fishing boats are moored. An iconic domed church stands high above the buildings, serving as the visual focal point of the entire bay. For centuries, fishermen built their homes along the hillside and painted the walls in bright colors, making it easier to spot their homes from the sea—a practice that created today's dreamy, pastel-colored landscape. 📸 Photography tips 1. Marina Corricella viewpoint: Overlook the entire harbor, with fishing boats and colorful houses in the same frame. The light is clear and perfect for photos during the day. 2. Waterfront promenade: Eye-level shots of colorful buildings and fishing boats on the water. 3. Hillside alleys: Use balcony flowers and laundry as foreground elements to capture the essence of village life. 4. Hidden rocky beach: High-angle shots of the jelly-colored water and rocky beach, perfect for afternoon photography. II. 2-day 1-night itinerary Day 1: Arrive on the island → In-depth tour of Marina Corricella fishing village Take a ferry from Naples to Procida and check in at the pier. In the afternoon, head straight to the core of Marina Corricella. Stroll along the waterfront promenade to see the dense layers of colorful houses stacked along the hillside and the many fishing boats moored at the pier. Wander through the winding alleys of the fishing village, check out the colorful dwellings, admire the flowers on balconies and laundry hanging out to dry, and soak in the authentic atmosphere of local fisherman life. In the evening, wait for the sunset at the harbor, where warm golden sunlight spills over the colorful walls and the sea sparkles. 🍜 Dining: The island specializes in fresh seafood. Must-try dishes include Neapolitan-style seafood pasta, fried seafood platters, and grilled octopus. There are many family-run restaurants along the pier. Pair your meal with local white wine, and try a Sicilian lemon dessert afterward. 🏨 Accommodation: Prioritize B&Bs around the harbor, as many have sea views where you can see the colorful village and the sea right from your window. The island is not large, so try not to stay too high up on the hillside, as there are many stairs and it can be difficult to transport luggage. Day 2: Island tour | Hidden beaches | Church visit | Departure In the morning, climb to the high point to visit the domed church and overlook the panoramic view of the island's colorful village and bay. Afterward, wander around the island, avoid the tour groups, and duck into quiet residential areas. Head to a hidden rocky beach to enjoy the clear, jelly-colored water, where you can wade or just lie back and relax. In the afternoon, browse the local markets to pick up lemon-themed products and handmade souvenirs. Near evening, take the ferry off the island to end your trip. III. Local highlights ✅ Local food: Various fresh seafood, seafood pasta, fried small fish, lemon desserts, local white wine, and Southern Italian tomato dishes. ✅ Souvenirs: Lemon products, handmade soap, and hand-painted island souvenirs. ✅ Local culture: Vibrant fishing culture, slow pace of life, colorful walls on every house, and flowers and plants everywhere. The island is not over-commercialized and retains the authentic life of a fishing village. IV. Travel tips 1. Transportation: You must take a ferry to reach the island. Departing from the port of Naples, the journey takes about 40–60 minutes. The island itself is not large and is mainly explored on foot, though there are small buses connecting various points. There are many slopes and stairs on the island, so it is recommended to wear comfortable, non-slip shoes. Driving on the island is not recommended. 2. Climate: The sun is strong in summer, so be sure to use sunscreen as the UV levels are high by the sea. The best time to travel is May–September, with fewer tourists in May–June and peak season in July–August. 3. Spending: The Euro is used. Most restaurants and shops accept card payments, but keep some cash on hand for small stalls at the pier. 4. Travel tips: There are many stairs on the island, so wear comfortable shoes. It is recommended to book ferry tickets online in advance during peak season. Try to visit the harbor in the morning to avoid the afternoon tour group crowds. 5. Nearby: You can combine this with Naples and Capri for a Southern Italy trip.

Procida — The Italian Island Where Pastel Houses Tumble Into the Sea and Fishermen Still Mend Their — traveler post in Procida

Procida — The Italian Island Where Pastel Houses Tumble Into the Sea and Fishermen Still Mend Their

Italy has Capri and the Amalfi Coast. But in the Bay of Naples lies an island that has escaped the crowds and kept its soul. Procida is a tiny volcanic island of pastel houses, narrow alleys, and fishing boats bobbing in the harbor. It was named Italy's Capital of Culture for 2022. Here is how to explore this colorful secret and save money with Trip.com. 1. Marina Corricella at Dawn: A Symphony of Color Marina Corricella is the oldest fishing village on Procida. Its houses are painted in pink, yellow, blue, and green, stacked like candy boxes above the water. By 10 AM, the harbor fills with day-trippers. Come at 6 AM instead. The water is glass. The colors glow. Fishermen mend their nets in silence. You will walk through a scene that looks like a painting, and you will have it to yourself. Pro Tip: Download the Trip.com offline map for Procida. It shows you the hidden stairways and the quietest routes between the villages. The best photos are from the viewpoint at Terra Murata, where the pastel houses cascade down to the sea. 2. Terra Murata: The Fortress Above the Sea Terra Murata is the highest point on Procida, a fortified medieval village with crumbling walls and breathtaking views. The climb is steep but short. At the top, you will find the Abbey of San Michele, a former monastery with a church and a small museum. The view stretches over the entire island and the Bay of Naples. Come in the late afternoon. The light is golden, and Vesuvius rises in the distance. Money Hack: The abbey is free to enter, but the museum has a small fee. Buy a combined ticket on Trip.com that includes the museum and a guided tour. The guide explains the island's history, from its Greek origins to its role in Italian cinema. 3. The Beaches: Black Sand and Clear Water Procida's beaches are small and intimate. The most famous is Chiaia, a strip of black volcanic sand sheltered by cliffs. The water is crystal clear. The atmosphere is local. Come early or late. The beach fills quickly in summer. Bring water and a hat. The sun is strong. Budget Advice: Skip the expensive beach clubs. The public beaches are free. Rent an umbrella from a local shop for a few euros. Check Trip.com for a "Procida Boat Tour" that includes stops at the hidden coves. The boat is the best way to see the island's dramatic coastline. 4. Food That Tastes Like the Sea Procida's cuisine is simple and fresh. Try Lingua di Procida — a local pastry filled with lemon cream. Order Spaghetti con Ricci — spaghetti with sea urchin, a local delicacy. And do not miss Insalata di Polpo — octopus salad with lemon and parsley. Where to Eat: Skip the restaurants on the main harbor. Walk into the village and find La Locanda del Postino or Caracale, where locals eat. The food is fresh, and the prices are fair. Check Trip.com for set menu deals — some places include a glass of local Falanghina wine when you book through the app. Where to Stay? Book on Trip.com a guesthouse in Marina Corricella. Look for something with a terrace overlooking the harbor. You will sleep in a pastel house with wooden shutters, a small balcony, and the sound of waves below. The evenings are quiet, and the mornings are filled with the call of gulls. Conclusion: Procida is not a place that tries to impress you. It simply is. It is an island of colors and water, of fishermen and lemon trees. It is a place where life moves at the pace of the tide. Italy is a country of endless beauty, but Procida is its secret heart. Come and sit by the harbor. The pastel houses are waiting. #trip_com #Italy #Procida #procidatravel #ItalyHiddenGems #BayofNaples #PastelHouses #BudgetTravel #EuropeGuide #traveleurope #MarinaCorricella #ItalianIsland #TerraMurata #MediterraneanLife #IslandParadise
