[Nagano] All-inclusive! Retreat trip to Bessho Onsen

I stayed at Tamaya Ryokan in Bessho Onsen⋆* The Premium Suite Room was just completed in June 2024 and is very spacious, with a cypress bath! ⁡ It's so luxurious to be able to bathe in a hot spring any time... Plus, there's a hair dryer, hair iron, and shower from ReFa✨, which is great for girls⋆* ⁡ Colored yukatas are available for free rental, and there's so much variety that it's hard to choose! You can also get dressed up until 4:30pm, so even those who can't wear a yukata can rest assured♪ ⁡ At the hearth restaurant "Kusanoan" on the first floor, you can enjoy free draft beer and soft drinks after the bath until 6pm, which is nice🍻 ⁡ Since it's in-room dining, you can enjoy delicious food and drinks slowly in a private space, which was great✨ ⁡ You can choose between Japanese and Western food for breakfast, and you can also enjoy this slowly in your room🍽️ ⁡ It was a wonderful room to refresh yourself🌿 Recommended for anniversaries and such𓅮 ⁡ ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ 📍 ⌇ 𝖺 𝖽 𝗋 𝖾 𝗌 𝗌 ˊ˗ Tamaya Ryokan 227 Bessho Onsen, Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, 386-1431 ⁡ 🚃 ⌇ 𝖺 𝖼 𝖼 𝖾 𝗌 𝖾 ˊ˗ ⁡ About 2 hours by train from Tokyo Free shuttle bus and pick-up available ⁡ *From the official website ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ⁡ #Bessho Onsen#Tamaya Ryokan#Nagano Trip#Nagano Trip#Girls Trip#Hot Spring Trip#Tabijo#Retreat#nagano#besshoonsen#Ueda City#Nagano Prefecture #tripDomestic Travel

A Breathtaking View at 2,000 Meters! Witnessing the Mystical Sunset at Utsukushigahara Highland — traveler post in Ueda

A Breathtaking View at 2,000 Meters! Witnessing the Mystical Sunset at Utsukushigahara Highland

Located right in the heart of Nagano Prefecture, Utsukushigahara Highland is one of Japan’s premier highland plateaus, sitting at an elevation of approximately 2,000 meters! It is renowned as a scenic spot offering sweeping views of vast grasslands and majestic mountain ranges. In this post, I’ll be sharing the enchanting scenery I encountered at Utsukushigahara Highland during the magical hours around sunset! 🌅 📍 ① The Iconic "Utsukushi-no-To" Tower and Sunset Views The most recognizable symbol of Utsukushigahara Highland is the "Utsukushi-no-To" (Tower of Beauty). This bell tower was originally built as a beacon for hikers in this fog-prone highland. As evening approaches, the sky transforms from vibrant orange to purple and deep blue, casting the tower’s silhouette in a truly mystical light. The charm of this spot is that it offers a completely different atmosphere compared to the daytime. ✨ 📍 ② A Stunning 360-Degree Mountain Panorama The true draw of Utsukushigahara Highland is the grand, unobstructed view of the surrounding landscape! When the weather is clear, you can see Japan’s iconic peaks, including the Yatsugatake Mountains and the Northern and Southern Alps. Especially at dusk, the distant mountain ranges layer upon each other, creating beautiful silhouettes. The sight of the horizon glowing orange and blending into the blue of the sky was so beautiful I couldn't help but stare. 📍 ③ The Post-Sunset Magic Hour If you visit Utsukushigahara Highland, I highly recommend staying for the period right after sunset! Even after the sun goes down, a soft glow remains in the sky for a while, allowing you to enjoy a dreamlike landscape woven from shades of blue and orange. The vast grasslands stretching out around you provide a sense of openness that is hard to find in the city. Spending time watching the sky transition from sunset to night is a truly special experience. 🌌 📍 ④ Relaxing Strolls Across the Vast Plateau Utsukushigahara Highland features well-maintained walking paths that allow you to walk through grand nature. The area around Utsukushi-no-To is relatively flat, making it perfect for a casual highland stroll! At twilight, the grasslands and wooden fences become striking silhouettes, making it a perfect spot for photography. 📸 🚗 Utsukushigahara Highland Travel Information 📍 Location: Utsukushigahara Highland, Nagano Prefecture ⛰ Elevation: Approx. 2,000m 💰 Highland Stroll: Free 🚗 Access: Take the Venus Line or surrounding roads from the Matsumoto City area. 🚶 Utsukushi-no-To: Approximately a 15–20 minute walk from the Yamamoto Goya Furusato-kan area. *Please be aware of winter road closures and traffic restrictions due to weather. 💡 Travel Tips ✔ To enjoy the sunset, it's best to arrive 30 minutes to an hour before sundown. ✔ Don't miss the magic hour after sunset. ✔ Because the altitude is about 2,000m, it's safe to bring warm clothing even in summer. ✔ The highland can be very windy, so wind protection is also important. ✔ It gets dark after sunset, so bringing a flashlight will give you peace of mind. ✔ If the weather is clear, you can also enjoy stargazing. ✨ Summary Utsukushigahara Highland is one of Nagano's top scenic spots, where you can enjoy vast grasslands, majestic mountains, and beautiful sunsets! In particular, the mystical scenery created by the mountain silhouettes and the sky changing from orange to deep blue around sunset is truly captivating. Whether you come for a daytime stroll or specifically for the sunset and starry sky, it's a highly recommended destination. If you're looking for a scenic drive in Nagano, you should definitely visit Utsukushigahara Highland! 🌄✨

Nagano: A Japanese Prefecture Beyond Imagination — traveler post in Ueda

Nagano: A Japanese Prefecture Beyond Imagination

A Journey Through Shinshu Nagano City, Togakushi Shrine, Azumino, and Matsumoto Day 1: Picked up our rental car at Haneda Airport and headed straight to Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza for some retail therapy (parking is free for the first two hours, or 24 hours free with a purchase of 30,000 yen or more). We enjoyed the changing colors of the autumn leaves along the way. Since there is currently no parking available at Kumoba Pond, we decided to skip it and head straight to Nagano City to check into Hotel JAL City Nagano. Day 2: After breakfast, we drove to the spiritual Togakushi Shrine. On the way, we passed several local farm stands crowded with cars—clearly a local favorite. We parked at the Okusha lot, paid our respects, and hiked to Chusha (a 2-hour trek through flat paths and mountain trails). Walking down the avenue of centuries-old cedars reaching for the sky while soaking in the spiritual energy was incredible. On our way back, we visited the historic Zenko-ji Temple (reputedly the first Buddhist temple in Japan) to experience its sacred, tranquil atmosphere. The complex houses 41 temples, and the approach is lined with charming, old-fashioned shops—definitely worth a visit. Day 3: After checking out, we drove to Hakuba Village. We stopped at the tourist information center next to the Hakuba Bus Terminal to buy discounted lift tickets for Happo-One. The lift has three stages: a gondola to Usagidaira (fully enclosed and safe), followed by two Alpen lifts to Kurobishidaira and Happo Pond (these have just a safety bar, so watch your belongings!). After admiring the fall foliage, we hiked to Happo Pond (about 2.5 hours round trip). Back at the base, we grabbed a discount voucher for the Happo-no-yu hot spring at the ticket gate, then checked into the Hakuba Sun Valley Hotel. We immediately headed to the hot spring next to the Snow Peak store to soak away the fatigue. Amazing! Day 4: After breakfast, we drove to Azumino to visit Japan’s largest wasabi farm, Daio Wasabi Farm. With its peaceful water wheels, cool breeze, and crystal-clear river, it’s a beautiful spot. We tried the refreshing wasabi soft serve, juicy wasabi frankfurters, and crispy wasabi croquettes—it was so relaxing! Later, we visited one of the "100 Famous Waters of Japan," where we saw locals specifically bringing empty bottles to collect water. We then drove up to Utsukushigahara Highland and stayed at Yamamoto Goya Furusato-kan. Day 5: Since this day was so full of activities, I will share it in a separate post. Day 6: Headed to Matsumoto City to explore the majestic national treasure Matsumoto Castle and the nostalgic Nawate-dori. The charcoal-grilled taiyaki there is delicious! Then, we drove to Suwa City to visit Tateishi Park for a view of Lake Suwa—the inspiration for Lake Itomori in the movie "Your Name." I highly recommend arriving before dusk to catch the view from sunset into the night. We stayed at the Candeo Hotels Chino nearby. Day 7: After checking out, we took a final stroll through the city before driving back to Haneda Airport. 🥲 The unique blend of nature and culture in Shinshu makes for truly wonderful travel memories.

Ikushima Tarushima Shrine

One of the highlights of this Babymoon is to visit the Ishima Ashima Shrine⛩️ located in Ueda City! The Ishima Ashima Shrine enshrines two gods, the "Ishima Daijin" who gives life to all living things, and the other "Ashishima Daishin" who gives all living things satisfaction. This shrine has a very long history and has always been revered by royal families and military commanders, so it is extremely spiritual. And every winter solstice, the rays of the sunset pass through the torii gate, and people gain strength, so it’s also one of the Japanese heritage sites. We went to the "Zi An Society" in the territory, Zi An Society is particularly famous for seeking children, safe childbirth, couples, good fortune 👩 👩 👧 👦 Shrine closes at 5pm, to pray or write the royal seal of friends remember to pay attention to the time ah!
