Kulangsu, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, is a pedestrian-only island celebrated for its unique blend of natural beauty, historical architecture, and rich musical heritage. Known as "the islet of drumming waves," the island's name reflects the natural music created by the ocean waves hitting the reefs. Visitors can explore the winding lanes, relax on the beaches, and admire the diverse architectural styles, including Victorian-era buildings, which are remnants of the island's past as an international foreign settlement. Kulangsu is also dubbed "Piano Island" due to its high density of pianos and a dedicated Piano Museum, a testament to its status as a cradle of music in China. The island's tranquil environment, free from the noise of cars, offers a serene escape and a chance to immerse oneself in a harmonious blend of Eastern and Western cultures.

Xiamen Botanical Garden, also known as Wanshi Botanical Garden, is a verdant oasis nestled amidst the rolling hills of Wanshi Mountain in Xiamen. This "green museum" boasts over 5,000 species of tropical plants, creating a rich tapestry of flora that offers a tranquil retreat from the bustling city life. The garden is not only a place of natural beauty but also a site of historical and cultural significance, featuring various provincial- and municipal-level cultural heritage sites, including temples and historical monuments. Visitors can immerse themselves in the dramatic rocky landscape dotted with granite boulders inscribed with ancient calligraphy, adding a touch of historical depth to the scenic views. With its enchanting natural landscape, rich cultural heritage, and fantastic plant formations, Xiamen Botanical Garden is a leading tourist spot in Southern Fujian and one of the most distinctive gardens in Southern China.

Zhonggu Cableway in Xiamen offers a unique aerial perspective of the city's stunning landscapes, including panoramic views of Gulangyu Island, South Putuo Temple, and the Kinmen Islands. The cableway, which is over 1,000 meters long, provides a scenic ride 150 meters above the ground, passing over lush greenery and notable landmarks such as Wanshi Botanical Garden and Huxi Rock. Visitors can capture the beauty of Xiamen from the ship-shaped viewpoint at the top of the mountain, which is especially breathtaking during sunset. This attraction is a must-visit for photographers and nature lovers who wish to experience the city from a different vantage point.

Xiamen University, established in 1921 by the patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Tan Kah Kee, is not only a prestigious institution of higher education but also a scenic attraction known for its beautiful campuses that blend natural and architectural beauty. The university's garden-like campuses are nestled between green hills and the blue sea, offering visitors breathtaking views and a serene environment to explore. The main campus, in particular, is celebrated as one of the most beautiful in China, with its traditional red-brick buildings and lush greenery. Visitors can immerse themselves in the academic atmosphere, enjoy the tranquility of Furong Lake, and appreciate the historical significance of the institution that has contributed to the prosperity of the country and the progress of mankind.

The Xiamen Science & Technology Museum in Xiamen is a renowned educational attraction that focuses on enhancing the cultural and scientific literacy of its visitors. It is particularly popular among families, offering a blend of fun and learning through interactive activities. This museum serves as an educational base where children can engage in hands-on experiences, making the process of learning about science both enjoyable and memorable.

Food Guide

Xiamen's cuisine is based on its unique local characteristics and rich seafood resources, ranging from classic dishes such as Satay Noodles, Tusu Bing, Shrimp Noodles, and Oyster Omelette to everyday Mianxian Hu, not only showcasing the essence of traditional Minnan cuisine but also integrating health and culture, becoming a must-try delicacy for locals and tourists.

A traditional Xiamen delicacy, characterized by its unique satay sauce as the soup base, with the addition of alkaline water noodles and various ingredients, the taste is salty, fresh, slightly spicy, and slightly sweet. The preparation of Satay Noodles is simple; after blanching the noodles, pour the hot satay soup over them, and add ingredients according to personal taste, such as duck blood, tofu, bean sprouts, etc. Satay Noodles are not only an everyday food for Xiamen residents but have also become a local specialty snack sought after by tourists, with regular consumption being beneficial for health and strength.

A famous traditional seafood snack in Xiamen, Tusu Bing is made from the unique marine goby, Tusu. It is grayish-white, crystal clear, soft, tender, and elastic. The production process of Tusu Bing includes cleaning the Tusu, boiling, cooling, and setting. When eating, add garlic, vinegar, soy sauce, and other seasonings for a fresh and crisp taste. Tusu Bing is not only a seasonal delicacy in the Minnan region but has also been included in Fujian Province's intangible cultural heritage, with a unique cultural background and health and therapeutic effects.

Xiamen Shrimp Noodles, also known as Shrimp Roe Noodles, are a traditional specialty noodle dish in Fujian Xiamen, loved for their delicious taste. The essence of Shrimp Noodles lies in the soup, usually made from dog shrimp heads and shells, paired with alkaline water noodles, shrimp, pork slices, and other ingredients, with a golden soup color and delicious taste. Shrimp Noodles are a culinary highlight in Xiamen and symbolize a historical and cultural connection with regions such as Malaysia and Singapore, having evolved over a century.

Oyster Omelette: A very popular traditional snack in Xiamen, made with fresh oysters as the main ingredient, with the addition of sweet potato flour, eggs, and other ingredients, fried until golden on both sides. This dish is not only delicious but also nutritionally rich, known as the "milk of the sea", and is loved by locals and tourists. When eaten, it is usually accompanied by Xiamen's unique sweet and spicy sauce, making the taste of the Oyster Omelette even richer, fragrant, spicy, and tender.

Xiamen Mianxian Hu is a traditional snack in the Minnan region of Fujian and Taiwan, made from fine noodles and sweet potato flour, with a porridge-like consistency, fresh, sweet, and smooth taste. This snack is usually eaten for breakfast and can also be enjoyed with fried dough sticks, water chestnut cakes, and other accompaniments, an indispensable part of Xiamen residents' daily lives. In the cooking process, the noodles of Mianxian Hu should be fine and long, smooth and delicious after cooking, often paired with rich ingredients such as intestines, shrimp, marinated eggs, providing a multi-layered taste experience.

Xiamen travel guide and discussion

Coastal vibe and pace: Many travelers describe Xiamen as a gentle, chill seaside city best enjoyed slowly—sea breeze, old streets and sunset light are the core appeal rather than box‑ticking. Common stays are 2–3 days, with unhurried walks and photo‑friendly moments rated higher than dense itineraries. Signature highlights: Gulangyu is widely seen as the must‑do—book the ferry in advance, go early to avoid crowds and simply wander the alleys instead of chasing every ticketed spot. For city‑meets‑sea panoramas, the Twin Towers observatory is praised at sunset (some even note a decent café inside), making it a top skyline experience. Timing and seasons: July–September is hot, humid and sunny, with typhoon alerts occasionally disrupting ferries; many suggest scheduling outdoor time before 9 am or after 4 pm and avoiding midday beaches. Dusk cycling on the Ring Road and shaded morning visits around the temple‑and‑campus area are common ways to beat the heat. Eat and stay smart: Shacha noodles and seafood shacks are the go‑to—locals favor Zeng Cuo An and the Ba Market (Eight Market) area for better value, while prices on Gulangyu and main drags run higher. First‑timers often base in Siming for easy transit and night markets; families with strollers avoid sleeping on Gulangyu due to stairs and luggage, use ride‑hailing over street hails, and confirm prices upfront for beach loungers, mascot photos or “pearl‑opening” sales.

Found another hidden photo spot in Xiamen Gulangyu! Brand new!!

Every once in a while, I get the urge to visit the island 🏖️ And that's when I discovered the National Art Museum of China's Gulangyu Art Space. It was formerly the site of the British Consulate. Now it's open to the public! 🏫 This century-old building is elegant, beautiful, and very photogenic. Facing the Twin Towers, you can take photos with them from the observation deck. On the other side, you can also capture Gulangyu's landmark, Sunlight Rock. 🖼️ They are currently hosting an exhibition of international works donated by the Ludwigs, which includes two paintings from Picasso's later years. Each exhibition hall features unique patterned tiles. Viewing art in an old villa makes every corner perfect for photos. The exhibition runs until Oct 31. When the weather is nice, you can head to the island for a stroll and check out the exhibition~

Traveling with Kids! Weekend Family Trip Guide — traveler post in Xiamen

Traveling with Kids! Weekend Family Trip Guide

Originally, we just wanted to take our daughter somewhere to burn off some energy, but our whole family ended up spending the entire afternoon at the Guangdong Eternal Love Scenic Area, not wanting to leave even when it closed! My husband was even more excited than I was, our baby's eyes were wide open the whole time, and even the elders said it was "worth the ticket price." It's not just a performance; it's like stepping into a living history textbook. 💡 A must-see main show, 60 minutes non-stop entertainment "Guangdong Eternal Love" completely overturned my expectations of scenic area performances. The light of Xiqiao, Wong Fei-hung, the towering waves of the migration to Southeast Asia… 6000 years of Guangdong stories are condensed into sound, light, electricity, and stage machinery. When a thousand tons of floodwater poured down from the stage, my daughter grabbed me and asked, "Mommy, is this real?" The impact was a hundred times more vivid than any textbook; edutainment happened naturally in that moment. 💡 The park is like a giant blind box, surprises around every corner Besides the main show, every retro scene in the pedestrian street is a photo opportunity. We were lucky enough to stumble upon a flash mob party, where the actors danced with the children, creating an incredibly vibrant atmosphere. One ticket grants access to a variety of smaller shows, including "The Great Earthquake" and "WA! Dinosaurs." Check the program schedule and showtimes in advance on a mobile app to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience – definitely worth the price! 💡 Thoughtful Family-Friendly Details Make Planning Easier Remember to buy tickets online one day in advance for better deals. Entry is by ID card or facial recognition on the day of the visit. The park has a mother-and-baby room and free hot water, making it easy to stroll around with a stroller. Parking is capped at 20 yuan for small cars, making it convenient for families with cars. When we left, my daughter was already planning to bring her classmates next time. If you're unsure where to take your kids on the weekend, this is truly a one-stop educational and entertaining gem – a fun-filled experience for both adults and children! #GuangdongAncientLoveScenicArea #GuangdongAncientLove #AncientLoveNight #GuangdongIsConcretizedByAncientLove

Fujian's severely underrated 5A hidden gem! Taining Danxia is truly a well-kept secret🔥 Seriously! When people think of traveling in Fujian, everyone flocks to Gulangyu, the Wuyi Mountains, and the Tulou! Yet, Taining Danxia in Sanming—a genuine world-class 5A scenic area and World Natural Heritage site—is ridiculously low-key😭 With almost zero commercialization, few crowds, and super low prices, it is a completely overlooked paradise of mountains and water! The old saying is true: "Of all the Danxia landscapes, Taining's clear waters are the best in the Southeast!" This is the pinnacle of Fujian's natural beauty—a true, real-life ink wash painting of clear waters and red mountains. 🏞️ Taining's four must-visit highlights ✨ 1. Dajin Lake | Stunning Danxia on the water 🌊 The soul of Taining! You must take a boat tour! Crimson Danxia peaks stand in the middle of clear water, creating an immersive atmosphere where mountains and water blend perfectly. After the rain, it is easy to encounter a sea of clouds in the mountains, with Danxia peaks floating on the misty lake—it is ethereal and incredibly photogenic! On the boat, stop by Ganlu Temple, a thousand-year-old hanging temple supported by a single pillar, embedded in the rock wall—it is both breathtaking and healing. 2. Zhaixia Grand Canyon | A natural geological museum 🌿 Known as the textbook of Danxia canyons! With strange rocks, deep caves, and clear streams formed over millions of years, every step offers pristine scenery. The forest is cool and quiet, perfect for an easy hike. There are almost no tourists, so you can take clean photos without anyone in the background—a truly immersive experience to breathe in the fresh air. 3. Shangqing Creek | Healing Danxia bamboo rafting 🛶 A slow-paced experience you must try in Taining! Drift along the 99 bends of this pristine stream on a bamboo raft, weaving through the Danxia canyons. Surrounded by green mountains and red rocks, with crystal-clear water, you can drift slowly, listen to the mountain breeze, and completely escape the city's hustle and bustle. 4. Taining Ancient Town | A gentle slice of life 🏮 After exploring the mountains and water, visit the ancient town! The original Ming and Qing dynasty streets are not overly commercialized and are full of local charm. Prices are affordable, the authentic snacks are great, and it is a super relaxing place for a leisurely stroll. 💡 Why do I highly recommend Taining? ✔️ Niche and uncrowded! No queuing or fighting for photo spots—a perfect travel experience ✔️ Incredible value! Affordable food and accommodation, with absolutely no tourist traps ✔️ Beautiful in all four seasons! Enjoy flowers in spring, escape the heat in summer, view mountains in autumn, and see the sea of clouds in winter ✔️ Suitable for all ages! The pace is relaxed and comfortable, not tiring at all If you are tired of the crowds at internet-famous spots, come to Taining! With its clear waters, red mountains, and serene atmosphere, this is a hidden Fujian gem that you can visit with your eyes closed!

A perfect collision of history and trend: Discover a different side of Fuzhou at Yantai Mountain — traveler post in Xiamen

A perfect collision of history and trend: Discover a different side of Fuzhou at Yantai Mountain

I can't say I'm a stranger to Fuzhou, but I can't say I'm very familiar with it either. I spent some time in Fuzhou in the past. Back then, I hadn't really gotten into photography, so I mostly used my phone to record my travels around the city. Most of the time, I didn't leave any records, just vague memories. Back then, I visited Fuzhou's parks with my family, walked through the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys with friends, and wandered aimlessly through the city streets just like I am now. When it comes to memories of Fuzhou, I have to mention scents: first, the smell of car exhaust in the air; second, the fresh fragrance of jasmine; and third, the stench of the city's rivers. Now, returning to Fuzhou, the air seems to have improved, and the rivers I passed no longer emit unpleasant odors. This month is the blooming season for jasmine, and you can still see stalls selling jasmine garlands by the roadside. That fresh, fragrant scent is the true original smell of this "blessed city." In reality, the Fuzhou in my memory had long been covered in a layer of dust, just waiting for a breeze to blow it away. That breeze is Yantai Mountain. Yantai Mountain shattered my impression of Fuzhou, transforming it from an old friend with a hint of vicissitudes into a new acquaintance. It turns out Fuzhou has such a surprising side. Speaking of the Yantai Mountain of today, we must trace it back to the past. On June 3, 1839, Lin Zexu ordered the destruction of opium at Humen Beach, which ended on June 25, lasting 23 days and destroying 2,376,254 jin of opium. In 1840, the British government used Lin Zexu's destruction of opium at Humen as an excuse to launch the Opium War. The Opium War ended with the defeat of the Qing government. In 1842, the Qing government signed the Treaty of Nanking with Britain, opening Shanghai, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Xiamen, and Ningbo as treaty ports. Historically known as the "Five Treaty Ports," this marked the beginning of foreigners leasing land and trading in China. In 1844, Fuzhou was officially opened as a port. Western merchants and missionaries leased land and built houses in the Cangqianshan area of Nantai Island, opening foreign firms, schools, and hospitals, and establishing consulates or agencies, forming the "Cangqianshan Foreign Settlement." The Yantai Mountain area, located in the center of the settlement, thus developed into Fuzhou's consulate district and foreign trade base. The Yantai Mountain Historical and Cultural District is located at the southernmost end of Fuzhou's historical and cultural axis. It currently preserves 163 modern architectural structures, covering various styles such as Romanesque, Gothic, Victorian, and Baroque. Yantai Mountain is not only filled with modern historical buildings but also features a commercial promenade completed in 2021. History and trends blend perfectly here, making the visitor experience one of the best in Fuzhou. Even though the online reviews were very high, I didn't have high expectations for Yantai Mountain before setting off, just thinking of it as another internet-famous photo spot. As it turned out, this trip truly exceeded my expectations. I headed towards Yantai Mountain, following Cangqian Road along the Min River until I reached the Yantai Mountain commercial promenade. Standing on the outskirts of the district, it seemed no different from any other commercial street, but only by wandering inside did I discover that there was much more to it. From the banks of the Min River to the top of Yantai Mountain, the small hill, with an elevation of only 41.6 meters, is not tiring to walk around at all. The scenery along the way is beautiful; the architecture, design, and colors here are refreshing, and the streets are spacious and tidy, making one feel happy at a glance. The afternoon sun becomes gentle here, with various buildings shaded by green trees under a clear blue sky. Taking the east-west Lequn Road and Aiguo Road as the main sightseeing route, along the way there are important attractions and buildings such as Yantai Mountain Park, Lequn Building, the Min Customs Tax Office, Stone Church, the French Consulate, and the American Consulate. Lequn Road is named after Lequn Building. Lequn Building was first built in the fourth year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1854) and completed in 1859. It is one of the few remaining early Western-style buildings in the Yantai Mountain historical district and was also the earliest Western-style entertainment building and foreign club in China. Lequn Building is a two-story brick-and-wood colonial-style building with a veranda. It is five bays wide, with arches on the first floor and flat arches on the second floor. The entrance has an iconic two-story gatehouse. Lequn Building is now the location of the Daguan Art Museum. There are many exhibits in the museum, but they are ridiculously new. Fortunately, there is no admission fee (otherwise, people would complain to death). There isn't much to see inside Lequn Building, but a large banyan tree not far in front of the building is spectacular. The afternoon light shines from behind the banyan tree, making the whole tree glow, and pedestrians walk under the tree like ants. This scene is truly beautiful. To the left of Lequn Building is Yantai Mountain Park, which is as small as can be. After passing the park, I walked further down to check out the former site of the Fujian Meifeng Bank/Private Union University. There is an exhibition inside this building, which requires an admission ticket to visit. The building was originally in a typical colonial veranda style. The second floor and roof were later renovated, adding eaves and upturned corners with traditional Chinese architectural elements, but the fireplace chimneys still protrude from the roof. On the outer platform of this building, there is also a large banyan tree, its canopy casting a large shadow in front of the building. Both sides of the banyan tree are great places to view the Min River scenery. Standing on this platform, the city view and river view below the mountain are unobstructed, and the buildings on Zhongzhou Island in the distance shine brilliantly in the sunlight. Walking back along the way I came, I passed by the Stone Church again. The Stone Church was funded and built by British expatriates in Fuzhou in 1856. It was designed by Hong Kong civil engineer T. L. Walker and completed in 1862. The Stone Church is a pseudo-Gothic building made of granite and diabase, with buttresses on the outer walls, wooden trusses for the roof frame, and double-layered small green tiles on the roof. The church was originally named St. John’s Church, and because it was built of stone, it is commonly known as the "Stone Church." Even if I hadn't been to Yantai Mountain, I had long heard of the Stone Church located there. There are two ancient trees in front of the Stone Church: one is a ginkgo tree, and the other is a camphor tree. They are first-class and second-class protected ancient trees in Fuzhou, respectively (there are a total of six century-old ginkgo trees in Fuzhou, and only one is first-class, which is right at the Stone Church). Every autumn, when the ginkgo leaves in front of the Stone Church turn yellow and fall, the church and the golden ginkgo leaves form a beautiful autumn picture. When autumn arrives, I will bring my camera to the Stone Church to enjoy the beautiful scenery of falling ginkgo leaves. Walking and looking along the way, every street here is so lovely that one can't help but look again and again, and take photo after photo. Being here, my soul seems to have become freer. The sun sets, and the sunset melts into gold. Yantai Mountain at night is even more bustling and lively, showing its enthusiastic side to visitors. Street concerts are underway, and the traditional-style music feast at Anlan Guild Hall has also attracted many people. This hurried trip only explored a small part of Yantai Mountain; I will come again next time. Perhaps the river breeze is not as free as the sea breeze, but it can still bring coolness to people; perhaps the river water is not as vast as the sea, but when night falls, the reflection of the city in the water is still beautiful; perhaps the city of Fuzhou is too low-key, but those who like it have their own reasons.

Stayed at my dream hotel in Quanzhou with my bestie! A comprehensive 3-day, 2-night guide to Qixu Reef Hotel — traveler post in Xiamen

Stayed at my dream hotel in Quanzhou with my bestie! A comprehensive 3-day, 2-night guide to Qixu Reef Hotel

Finally checked off the Qixu Reef Hotel that's been in my saved list for half a year with my bestie. I really can't help but share it with you—this is a hotel that will make you both take endless photos and exclaim, "So glad we came." It's like living right in the ocean, and the soundtrack when you wake up every day is the sound of the waves. Three days and two nights just isn't enough 😭 Hotel setting | Living in 175-million-year-old reef The hotel is in Weitou Village, Jinjiang, known as the "First Village of the Strait." The entire building looks like it grew out of the reef. Designed by Xie Ke, the wabi-sabi style is perfectly executed. In the center of the lobby, a 175-million-year-old original reef is preserved, and the 270° floor-to-ceiling windows frame the horizon like a painting. The moment we walked in, my bestie and I both went "wow." We stayed in a poolside one-bedroom suite. The balcony connects directly to the infinity pool, so you can jump into the water as soon as you open the door. The bed faces the floor-to-ceiling window, so when you open your eyes in the morning, you see the sea and sky as one. The amenities are customized by Documents, and they even provide sleep spray during turndown service—full marks for details. The room is equipped with a Dyson hair dryer and Geneva speakers. The minibar is free and includes local Minnan snacks. Transportation | How to get there Quanzhou South Station is the closest, about a 35-minute taxi ride. If you are coming from Quanzhou city center (near West Street), it's about a 1-hour drive. It is recommended to book a car in advance; you might wait a long time if you try to hail one on the spot. The hotel also offers round-trip transfer services from Xiamen/Quanzhou; you can ask about this when booking. Hotel activities | You won't want to leave The infinity pool is a must-visit. The curved design makes it look like it's floating on the sea, and it's breathtakingly beautiful at sunset. There is morning yoga (Mon, Wed, Fri), sound healing, and Baduanjin every day; just book in advance. If you're lucky, there will be a beach bonfire and fireworks show at night. We stayed for two nights and encountered both. Sitting on the beach with my bestie watching the fireworks, I was so moved I almost cried. There is also a free photoshoot with 5 retouched photos included, remember to book in advance! Additionally, at "Qixu Shibei," you can pick up sand digging tools to play on the beach; even adults have a lot of fun. Dining | Worth coming back just for the food Breakfast is a la carte + semi-buffet. The satay noodles, peanut soup, and beef soup are all delicious; my bestie ate two bowls of satay noodles. Dinner is at the "Fish Planting Olives" restaurant; the grilled fish and suckling pig are signature dishes, and the yellow croaker noodle soup is incredibly fresh. Remember to claim your two free cocktails at the Reef Bar; sitting in front of the 270° sea view in the evening for a drink is an amazing atmosphere. The Sea Ear Cafe faces the beach directly, and it's great for afternoon tea photos. 3-day, 2-night itinerary recommendation Day 1: Arrival + hotel relaxation. After checking in during the afternoon, soak in the infinity pool, take a walk on the beach at sunset, and watch fireworks and have cocktails in the evening. Day 2: One-day tour of Quanzhou Ancient City. Sleep in, then take a taxi to West Street. Visit the East and West Pagodas at Kaiyuan Temple, take the 2-yuan "Xiaobai" car under the Bell Tower to shuttle through the ancient city, and visit Guanyue Temple, which is very popular and worth a trip. Return to the hotel in the evening for a seafood feast. Day 3: Weitou Village + departure. In the morning, stroll around the Weitou Battlefield Culture Fishing Village. The Jinshawan Beach has fewer people and fine sand, and it's more open than the hotel beach. Have a meal at a seafood stall in the village at noon; it's great value for money. Local specialties The seafood stalls in Weitou Village, Xinshawan Seafood Restaurant and Weifan Seafood Restaurant, are both very close to the hotel. You can eat until you're stuffed for a few dozen yuan per person, and the seafood is incredibly fresh. If you go to Jinjing Town, you must try the beef soup and salty rice at Gongniu Quanzhou Beef Snacks.

Kulangsu

Kulangsu is without a doubt one of the most magical and unique places in all of China, capable of completely enchanting you from the very first moment. This island has something magnetic about it, allowing you to escape the hustle and bustle of the modern world for a while and step into a completely different era. What strikes you immediately upon stepping off the ferry is the pervasive, soothing peace. The fact that a complete ban on motor vehicles is enforced across the entire island—no cars, scooters, or noisy motorbikes—completely changes the dynamic of exploring. Instead of the roar of engines, you hear the sound of the sea, birdsong, and the sounds of music drifting lazily from the windows of villas and music schools. Kulangsu is not called the Island of Pianos for nothing. Walking through the shaded, narrow alleys, you get the impression that this entire place lives to its own unhurried rhythm, where the past seamlessly blends with the preseent.

Xiamen Botanical Garden

The botanical garden is large, built against the mountain, and the overall scenery is pleasant. The main attractions are the Rainforest World, the succulent area, various flowering plants and shrubs, and a seven-tiered escalator. Take Metro Line 1 to Zhongshan Park Station, Exit 3B, walk a few hundred meters to enter the garden from the West Gate. Once inside, be sure to take the unlimited-ride sightseeing bus to various attractions. Walking around the mountainous areas can be quite tiring. First, visit the Rainforest World, then the succulent area to see the cacti, followed by the Flower Garden, then the Xizi Garden, and finally take the bus to the South Gate Station. From the South Gate, you can enjoy a distant view of the sea. Take two elevators and seven escalators down to the South Gate; each step of the escalator offers a scenic view and photo opportunities. Finally, take the sightseeing bus back to the West Gate from the South Gate. The photos are mainly taken at the Xizi Garden station of the botanical garden.

Zhonggu Cableway

Visiting the Zhonggu Cableway in early October, with its clear skies and gentle breezes, offered the perfect opportunity to experience the breathtaking aerial views, far removed from the sweltering heat of midsummer. The Zhonggu Cableway traverses the Wanshi Mountain forest, and the gentle ascent in the cable car provides a unique and immersive experience, offering panoramic views of Xiamen from above. The cable car cabins are open-plan, offering unobstructed views. As the cable car slowly ascends, lush subtropical forests line both sides, their verdant foliage and fresh mountain air filling the air. With each ascent, the view gradually expands, revealing the verdant Zhonggu Mountain range nearby, and in the distance, the red-tiled roofs of Xiamen's old town, along with the high-rise buildings and the bay, unfolding in a harmonious tapestry. Reaching the highest point, one can gaze upon Gulangyu Island and the boundless sea, taking in the panoramic view of the city, mountains, and azure ocean blending seamlessly into a breathtaking panorama. The entire journey takes approximately forty minutes one way, with a smooth and leisurely ride, ideal for savoring the scenery at a leisurely pace. Along the way, you'll see towering boulders in the valleys and forest trails, with constantly changing mountain scenery from different angles. Compared to hiking, the cable car saves you the effort of climbing, yet offers a panoramic view unmatched by ordinary observation decks. The only drawback is the long queues during peak hours; it's recommended to travel during off-peak times. The cabins offer no shade, so remember to wear sunscreen when the sun is strong. Sitting in the cable car, with the mountain breeze in your ears and overlooking the entire city, you'll feel incredibly relaxed. The Zhonggu Cableway is more than just a transportation route; it's a window into the panoramic view of Xiamen's mountains and sea. Here, the wild beauty of the mountains and the coastal cityscape converge, allowing you to experience the tranquility of nature while enjoying breathtaking urban views. If you're tired of the bustling city streets, climbing here and gazing at the unique mountain and sea scenery of Xiamen from mid-air is a pleasant and unforgettable experience.

Hulishan Fortress

The scenic area isn't large, but it offers a distant view of Kinmen Island, and the scenery is delightful! There are a few nice cafes near the park exit; we had a light meal there, the drinks were delicious, and most importantly, the view was absolutely stunning.

Xiamen Science & Technology Museum

For a family trip to Xiamen, the Xiamen Science and Technology Museum is definitely a treasure trove of indoor entertainment for kids. It's perfect for both sunny and rainy days, and the air conditioning is excellent, allowing you to easily spend half a day there. Most exhibits are interactive, so it's not just about looking at pictures; kids are fully engaged. The magnetic and electric stage performance is spectacular, and the children's area features water-powered installations, climbing walls, and slides, allowing children to unleash their energy. The aquarium's Jiaolong submersible model and various sound and light science experiments make dry knowledge fun and easy to understand. During the National Day holiday, it gets quite crowded, so expect queues for popular attractions. Remember to book in advance for the Flying Over the Cinema. Overall, it balances entertainment and science education, making it both fun and educational. We recommend arriving early and managing your energy wisely. It's a great place to broaden your children's horizons and a must-visit for a family trip to Xiamen.

Xiamen University (Siming Campus)

Walking around Furong Lake after entering the school gate is a pleasant experience. The red brick and green tile buildings in the Jiarong style are pleasing to the eye, and the large trees along the road provide shade, keeping you cool and dry. I didn't feel tired even after strolling around for half a day. The overall atmosphere is quiet and perfect for leisurely exploration.

Nanputuo Temple

There weren't many people at Nanputuo Temple on the weekend, and the free incense at the entrance was a thoughtful touch. The temple buildings were simple and clean, and climbing the steps offered views of Xiamen University and the sea. The path was shaded by trees, providing coolness from the sun. I bought some vegetarian pastries, which were light and not greasy. Overall, it was a relaxing and comfortable experience.

Lujiang Night Cruise

The meal started off well, but after paying for the show, we were forced to pay extra for each table on the third-floor deck, or we had to stand to watch. It felt like we were being forced to spend money, which was very unpleasant.

The Jimei School Village

I took a walk around Jimei University Village and had a good overall experience. The red and white color scheme of the Jiageng-style buildings was pleasing and not cluttered. Many old shops along the street sold reasonably priced items. The seaside promenade was very pleasant to walk on and enjoy the breeze. It was much more relaxing than shopping in a mall.
