I have stayed at this hotel several times because the rooms are generally comfortable and the location is convenient. Unfortunately, my recent experiences with the front desk service have been disappointing and have affected my overall impression of the property.
During my most recent stay, the hotel required a RM50 cash deposit upon check-in. As I did not have sufficient cash on hand, I asked whether a credit card or Touch ’n Go payment could be used instead. The male receptionist working the night shift informed me that neither option was accepted, leaving me with no choice but to provide a RM100 cash deposit. Shortly after I completed my check-in and walked away, I could hear him immediately continuing a personal phone conversation in Mandarin. Although he spoke to me in English throughout our interaction, it appeared that he had been engaged in the call before I arrived. This gave me the impression that guest service was not his priority at that moment.
What made this more disappointing was that this was the same receptionist I had encountered during a previous stay. On that occasion, he was handling my check-in but stopped midway to settle payment for his food delivery. I was left waiting while he attended to his personal matter and was not informed or even asked to wait. As a guest, I found this unprofessional, as the check-in process should have taken priority.
My check-out experience during this stay was also less than ideal. I had extended my stay by one hour, so the deposit refund needed to be adjusted accordingly. The receptionist handling my check-out asked whether I had RM20 cash so that she could return my RM100 deposit more conveniently. Considering that I had already explained during check-in that I did not have sufficient cash, the request felt more like a matter of staff convenience than guest convenience.
Throughout the interaction, her body language gave me the impression that she was reluctant or inconvenienced by the situation. When she handed over the cash, I thanked her, but there was no acknowledgement or response. While the correct amount was eventually returned, the interaction felt cold and unwelcoming, which was disappointing as it was the final impression of my stay.
The hotel itself is decent, with clean rooms, comfortable accommodation, and a convenient location. However, the front desk team creates the first and last impression of a hotel, and unfortunately the service I experienced fell short of expectations. I hope management can review these incidents and reinforce the importance of professionalism, attentiveness, and prioritising guests during check-in and check-out.
Clean room and good location. Can walk anywhere and lots of shops around. Good sound insulation from human neighbours. Birds outside is cute but need to get used to bird chirping and road sound.

This hotel is great, conveniently located near R&F and the JB immigration office, as well as JB Station. It's also easy to find food nearby. However, the hotel's current name isn't yet discoverable on maps. So, if you're using Grab or setting your destination, you'll need to use the old hotel name: Fives Hotel Meldrum. That name is accurate on location maps. If you search for the current hotel name, the address isn't correct. So, please use the old hotel name, Fives Hotel Meldrum. Hopefully, the name and address will be updated to match soon, to make it easier to find.

This hostel 🏨 is genuinely great! I dare say it's unbeatable for its price point. The host keeps the place meticulously clean and tidy. The common lounge area is designed predominantly in black, with a bar-like long table perfect for guests to have coffee and chat. They even provide a gas stove and cookware for guests free of charge. That's incredibly thoughtful! It's absolutely perfect for backpackers looking for a temporary stopover in JB! One thing to note is that this hostel is alcohol-free and pork cooking is prohibited, so travelers should be aware. And finally, a pleasant surprise is that the hostel has a cat that often cocks its head, super cute ớ ₃ờ! Overall, this hostel is truly an excellent place for backpackers to stay.
Clean, comfy beds although small room but quiet and good enough for our overnight stay. Toilet/bathroom needs a makeover. Overall still ok for budget conscious travelers.

I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. Overall, everything was acceptable and met my expectations. The room was clean and comfortable, and the facilities provided were adequate for a relaxing stay. The staff were polite and helpful whenever assistance was needed.
The location was also convenient, making it easy to access nearby attractions and amenities. While nothing was particularly extraordinary, everything worked well and the experience was smooth from check-in to check-out.
I would consider staying here again and would recommend it to others looking for a comfortable and hassle-free place to stay.

The room was tiny and looked nothing like the pictures. There weren't even any hangers. The location is very remote, with absolutely no shops or restaurants nearby. It's a long walk from the back of the train station. I'd recommend staying at a hotel closer to the train station exit, as that area is very lively with plenty of dining options. The Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple and Johor Ancient Temple are there, and it's just another ten-minute walk to Jalan Tan Hiok Nee. Remember to choose a hotel in the opposite direction from this one for a more vibrant area – it's only a five-minute walk from the station. This hotel was a bit overpriced. I later switched to another hotel that was much larger and cheaper, though they didn't provide bottled water.

KKennyOTMGreat location, but water supply was a real problem

Review:
Book 2 rooms at Here Hotel Johor Bahru. The location is excellent—right near Sutera Mall with lots of food options around. There are also Karaoke and escape room around the corner. Super convenient for a short trip and Love the nostalgic shophouses vibes!!!
However, the water supply was a major issue. The flow was weak and inconsistent, which made showering frustrating. For a hotel room, I expected basic amenities to work properly. Room was otherwise decent and clean, but the water problem really affected the stay.
Good for location, but need to manage expectation. But for its price, it is valued for money.

CCaramelatteaHereHotel Dormitory JB: Affordable & Convenient Stay
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly dormitory in Johor Bahru, HereHotel Dormitory is a great option. Located in Skudai, it’s near Paradigm Mall JB, making it convenient for shopping and dining.
The dormitory is clean and well-maintained, with comfortable beds and good air-conditioning. The WiFi is reliable, and the common areas are kept tidy. Despite being a shared space, it’s quiet and suitable for rest after a long day.
The staff is friendly and helpful, ensuring a smooth check-in process. For the price, HereHotel Dormitory offers great value for solo travelers and backpackers. Would recommend it for anyone looking for a simple, no-frills, and comfortable stay in Johor Bahru.

GGuest UserIt is very clean and offers good service and amenities. Ventilation could be improved if the windows at both ends of the corridor were opened more frequently. It would also be even better if the room or bathroom had a small window facing the corridor
AAnonymous UserH3 hotel is a budget hotel in Yong Peng. The accommodation is comfortable, cleanliness acceptable.
⭕ car parking space provided.
❌ no electric kettle, no lift(quite a problem if the room is on the higher floor).

I recently stayed at Hako Hotel (Taman Universiti) in Skudai and had a pleasant experience overall. The standout feature is definitely the bed; it was exceptionally comfy, providing a great night's sleep after a long day of traveling. The room layout is modern and efficient, making the most of the space.
Regarding the facilities, I really appreciated the water dispenser provided in the lobby, which is a convenient and eco-friendly touch for refilling bottles. Parking was also completely stress-free, as there are ample parking lots available right around the building. My only minor critique would be the toilet cleanliness, which I found to be average—it wasn’t dirty, but it could definitely benefit from a more thorough deep clean to match the high standard of the bedroom. Overall, it is a great, value-for-money choice for a short stay in Skudai!
AAnonymous UserWent with 4 kids. House big enough. 3 bedrooms.
Master room was big and spacious. With a floor mattress. a king size bed and attached toilet.
2 common bedrooms. 1 room with a king/queen size bed and single size bed. The other room with 1 king/queen size bed.
Living room has a sofa bed. Possible for 1 pax to sleep comfortably.
Toilet looks old. And master bedroom toilet has an odour. Quite bad. No complains about sound. But heard one or two loud door slams only which i thought is okay because it happens at home as well. The wind, the kids, accidentally. Neighbours seems good. No noise from them and don't even bump into any. But from each room cannot hear each other.
Morning around 530am will hear the morning prayers from one of the common bedroom that has 2 beds. The other rooms didnt hear it or perhaps deep asleep. Haha. And another prayer session around 430pm afternoon. Last about 30min. If very tired should be able to fall back to zzz again. My kids did.
Towel has a smell. But we don't use as we use to bringing our own towels.
I like that there is security counter but not to deposit your luggage prior check in. Anything just ask them and check in is very smooth. Instructions from owner was very clear and direct. Less than 5 min to check in. Early check in allowed at a charge if there's no guest prior.
Very nice owners. Reply via whatsapp. And they provided small water bottles and coffee sachets. Quite surprise they do as most, doesn't provides. And a few trash bags .. good!
Overall the stay was ok as we only sleep there. No other activities.

YYJ__Perfect for a short stay near by JB Sentral. No problem: Beds are clean, A/C working, with water dispenser. Only downside was the people staying there: snoring like thunder, watching videos loudly, slamming the doors loudly.
