SEMPORNA CITY HOTEL

Sanitary: The room is very clean, Service: The service attitude is good, you can send meals to the room, and you can pick up and drop off for the visitor center for free. Facilities: complete facilities and large rooms. Environment: Not far from the visitor center, about ten minutes by car, 2.6 kilometers walking, free pick -up and delivery is very intimate. It is very convenient to connect to WeChat. It is recommended to check in. The only disadvantage is that there is a mosque in the back, praying on time at 5:00 every day. This is Muslim custom, praying five times a day
Borneo Sepilok Rainforest Resort
4.3/547 Reviews
This is the sort of place where the staff will always greet you with ”hello, sir/ma'am” whenever they see you. Nice swimming pool and very good food at the restaurant, even though slightly pricy at first (I guess it's fine being a resort), the portions are actually huge and very fresh. Try their lemon chicken on rice for 20 ringgit (February 2024). All you can eat breakfast included for free even with the dorm bed: fried noodles, a very thick pancake, fruit, British breakfast, beef sausages, coffee, juice, etc. Walk-in price is 80RM, cheaper here on Trip. The dorm looks exactly the same as the one I staid in Kinabatangan, which is always funny (same contractor?). Comfortable night, with a new AC and fan, specially so considering I had it all to myself since the other few guests they had had private accommodation. Dorm showers have plenty of hot water and are clean, but there's no soap or amenities beyond the towel they give you at check-in. Bring your own. The staff at the restaurant sometimes disappears for no reason in the middle of service, even if there's about 20 of them considering réception is right there. They helped me book a taxi to the airport (50 ringgit), since there's no grab available (spent 1h looking for one). Don't bother trying to get one, ask them to call a taxi for you, really. This resort is about 1km away from the three main things to do at sepilok. You will be walking on the side of the road to get anywhere since transportation options are scarce and expensive. Overall this is standard of service here in Borneo, so don't settle for less than this.

The Dream Hotel

This hotel is clean and situated in a great location. The staff is courteous and helpful. The room is spacious. The bed sheet and pillow cover are spotless clean and smell good. The toilet is decent with hot shower. Still, there are water marks on the toilet wall that are still acceptable. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. There are convenience stores and ATMs in the vicinity. I recommend this hotel to everyone.
Aristo Hotel 81
3.9/5113 Reviews
Aristo Hotel 81 in Kota Kinabalu is a budget-friendly hotel that offers basic amenities such as air conditioning, a restaurant and a coffee shop. Guests often highlight the friendly staff and convenient location near local eateries, pharmacies and mosques. However, some reviews on the Trip app mention noise issues from nearby nightlife and maintenance problems, such as broken door handles and inadequate room amenities. Additionally, windowless rooms may lack en suite bathrooms, which could be a disadvantage for some guests. Overall, this is a good choice for budget-conscious travelers looking for a short stay. Toojou Kota Kinabalu
4.5/5230 Reviews
Kota Kinabalu City Center
Toujoo is tucked in a little corner of KK city center, easily accessible for tourists and locals alike. Our room was clean (room 102-studio double window), bed super comfy, bathroom is tiny (expected) but well ventilated and water pressure is good. Soundproofing is good and it's quite quiet, we didn't hear our neighbours and the storm brewing outside. The room is equipped with Bluetooth speakers, which we really liked. No TV. Plenty of electrical points to charge your devices. Also, guests can use the facilities in OPIS (between Ground floor and First floor). Great area to lounge around, make your own coffee/tea, play pool, or read. There's also a house cat (Pablo?) if you need some pet therapy. 😆 Sundays are good for ladies (free flow cocktail at the Tamu rooftop bar 5-7pm) plus the food is superb! Overall this place is highly recommended!

Gayang Friendly Water House Homestay

Fit to price. However a bit disappointed during check in I informed the staff that we request early breakfast at 7.00am (which was serve at 8.00am) but denied our request. However, the check out staff was very nice, she gave us take away coffee and her own bun. Thank you so much to that lady. Recommended to book sea view room.
Sipadan Inn 2
3.8/5134 Reviews
Booked this Inn2 because I couldn’t see any commitments on Sipadan Inn 3 or 1. It was okay for overnight. The first time I stayed there, it was a normal small room with window facing the street. However, when I checked in again a week later I got a room in the middle without window, even though I booked the same queen room. The location is not great, Inn 3 and 1 are at better spots in the small seafront town, easier to reach than Inn 2. Among the three, Inn 3 is the newest and, after a visit, I noticed it has better rooms with better facilities. Had WiFi in room at Inn 2, the bed was very basic and sheets not crispy clean, the shower was okay as well as the air conditioning. Semporna is a tiny town with most places within walking distance, though the narrow, car-lined streets are not that clean or tidy to walk through, especially if you carry luggage. From what I heard from other travelers, very basic facilities wherever you stay, so lower your expectations then probably all good.
