Diamonds Lodge Near York Hospital

I'm not one to write bad reviews but this place really needs sorting out! I went with my partner for her birthday to a place we both agreed looked great, however the pictures are very deceiving. The bed was uncomfortable and we hardly slept, not to mention the fact it was on wheels and with a broken headboard which the staff member was aware of, the bathroom was very small and the shower is lower than 6ft at it's highest, the cobwebs were seen in the corner by my partner and this was ”The BEST room” The receptionist tried to rectify the problems we had with that room and they gave us another room (opened the wrong room where someone was sleeping, thinking it was empty) and then took us to the empty room, this room was tiny and had mould in the corner and the worst part was the door lock wouldn't lock properly!! Tired and very disappointed we decided to leave a day earlier! Stayed at the Marriot which we should have done in the first place, we lost a day of parking and no refund for that or the 2nd day we didn't stay there. After emailing them after, I got no reply even though they replied to the emails I sent about when I booked there enquiring about face masks and check in times. Very unprofessional and the only place I have wanted to leave early. Highly recommend to just stay at the Marriot and you'll be happier. If this place were to reply to my email it would have had a plus point but unfortunately it's all bad. Just stay away from there.
Astor York Hostel

2519 Great value for money Review of Astor York Pending review I was heading to York for the Christmas market and, knowing that I would spend most of my time out and about, wanted my accommodation to be as inexpensive as possible. A weekend at the Astor York set me back less than £40, and I would say I'm grateful I stayed here for more reasons than just the low price. I hadn't realised that the Christmas market closes quite early, and I found myself back at the hostel earlier than I anticipated. Luckily, there is a common area where you can watch Netflix with the other guests – a nice treat at the end of a cold day. I was admittedly a bit taken aback by the very old-fashioned bathrooms that look straight out of the 1960s. But the hostel was clean and well-maintained. My 30-bed dorm did not feel too crowded, and I was grateful for the cages under beds. My one gripe about the dorm room would be a lack of sockets and lights at beds; it was impossible to charge my phone as I was on the top bunk, so I had to charge it in the common area instead. While I only needed to use the fridge, it looked like the kitchen was well-stocked and spacious. There was also a little bar that did happy hour, though I never made it back early enough to take advantage. The location is a bit of a walk from York's city centre. However, it's quite an easy route, and it's also convenient for accessing the train station. I recommend getting up and out a bit earlier and walking along the ancient wall from Micklegate, which is not far from the hostel. Overall, my stay was great value for money and I'd recommend Astor York to any solo travellers.
Guy Fawkes Inn

In May 2022, I spent 3 days in York as a treat for my birthday. This trip was one of many solo-travels that I had planned for the year and when planning this trip and looking on Booking.com I found this hotel to be the best of the bunch on money and closeness to the town. The hotel itself was part of a pub/restaurant but my room was separate from the building in a sense as it was outside and up the stairs. The pub was incredible, the atmosphere and theme was just what I was looking for and I absolutely loved the history behind the building. The room, just as expected, fit well with the theme with vintage inspired decor and furniture, a beautiful and home-away-from-home feel to it. The room was clean, comfortable and just what I wanted for my first trip to York and only second trip travelling solo. The hotel was only a few minutes walk to the town centre and The Shambles, which was just what I wanted and it was so great that during a busy day that I could nip back to my room to drop off bags and/or freshen up before heading back out. It really is a brilliant location for anyone visiting York. The food, which I only had on one occasion as there was so much choice in York, was incredible and highly recommend even if you aren't staying, to pop in for dinner. You will not be disappointed at all! All around fantastic hotel, with a great location, food, price and friendly and helpful staff. Cannot wait to stay again, thank you

The Parsonage Hotel & Spa

I held my ‘significant’ birthday party at the Parsonage and it was fabulous. I had the Crystal Suite which was perfect for my 40+ guests with a 6 piece live band and dance floor. All of the planning and preparation was seamless, with the team being flexible, efficient and helpful. We had 15 bedrooms, at a special rate, for guests who wanted to stay over. The team couldn’t do enough for us on the night. The food was delicious and all the guests complimented it. The service was both friendly and efficient. We had an absolutely top night and the whole event was great value for the quality we received. I’d heartily recommend for an event.
The Bootham Tavern - York

I visit York regularly and mostly stay in hotels. I decided to do something different this time and stay here. Checkin is through the pub downstairs. The two younger members of staff had no idea what to do when I arrived but the third member of staff took the lead to check me in and bring me to my room. Initial impression of the room was that it was nicely presented, clean and modern. However, I was simply shocked to find that my bathroom had no shower in it. I went back to reception and asked to be assigned a room with a shower but was told no other room was available. So, for the first time in many years, I stayed in a location that didn’t even have the most basic of facilities. If I knew this before I booked here, I certainly wouldn’t have made the booking. In the morning, I asked to have breakfast. It was cooked to order and was delicious. The lady who served me was very efficient and friendly. There’s no air conditioning in the room so I had to have a fan running all night to try to stay cool. So, would I stay here again? Probably not, I’m afraid. The lack of basic facilities is a complete show stopper for me.
