The property has amazing ocean views high on an outcropping, but none of the rooms with an ocean view have a balcony, except the very edge of the east wing. Wonderful gardens with a path lading down to a small beach that isn't too noteworthy. The rooms have been updated since the construction and are pretty good overall. The pool was closed in June, which was pretty disappointing, especially as the beach is below par. The onsen facilities met expectation. The beds are firm, which I loved, but not everyone likes a firm mattress. The hotel operates a bus service to pick up guests from the train station twice an hour from 9-5pm. If you are doing dinner out in the town or drinks in the evening, you have to grab a taxi back as the walk is a bit of a hike. The hotel staff are very friendly and kind, the concierge knows the area and has great recommendation for activities...wonderful and friendly people. The hotel restaurant serves a nice mostly Japanese breakfast (as expected) with local delicacies, wide range of teas, coffee and juice as well as a great selection of breads and fresh fruit. The hotel restaurant for dinner is average. Our group ordered a range of items off the menu and no one was terribly impressed. The lone stand out was the French Onion soup, packed with flavor, though a bit light on the cheese. Would stay here again if the price was right, was able to get rooms at a discount on this stay as it was rainy season.

I wanted a place to stay overnight easily, so I was very helpful. The hotel in Kochira was great! The classic building is carefully maintained, staff, rooms, views, hot springs in the large communal bath, views from the bath (you can enter while watching the sunrise from early morning), and a full breakfast of seafood is delicious. Amazing experience at this Ryokan in front of the beach. I stayed in room 211 with a private bath in the balcony. The view from the room was amazing and very beautiful. The shower was great also, located next to the balcony. The hotel has 2 different public baths. One of them is located in the terrace where you can observe the beautiful stars at night while relaxing in the bath. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. There is a ping pong table near the front office where you can play for free. The dinner and breakfast were very delicious and very abundant. I will definitely stay here again if I go to Shimoda.
