Aini Garden
4.8/5189 Reviews
When I started planning our itinerary for our 15 day Yunnan holiday, I plotted out our path to go all the way up to Shangri-la, back down to Kunming and then to Jiaozi Snow Mountain and Dongchuan Red Land. Then I chanced upon a video of Aini Garden and fell in love! The only reason we came to Pu'er was to get to Aini. This was the first place I booked, and I really took a chance because it has a no cancellation policy and I really had to stick to the date once it was made. The initial pre-arrival experience was less than pleasant. I didn't know how we were going to get to the manor and my WeChat messages went unanswered. The hotel we stayed at in Pu'er finally got in touch with someone and got them to message me. I asked how we could get there and the answer was a curt ”take a taxi or charter a car”. No pleasantries of ”we look forward to seeing you” or offering to arrange a car. When we arrived, no one was at reception and no one came out. Our driver was so perplexed he wondered if we were in the right place and if the place was open. Finally a young girl came out and registered us in. There was an air of aloofness from everyone else. However, once we were checked in, things warmed up quickly. We were offered coffee and freshly cut papaya and had a nice introduction chat with the lady staff. The bedroom and bathroom is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. We would have enjoyed sitting on the balcony if the chairs were more comfortable. I love the floor to ceiling glass windows but the panel above the door should also be glass (it is just netting) so traffic sounds from the road actually comes through at night. I actually wanted to book the cottage in the hills but opted for the standard room in the main house because I was worried it would be cold. Big regret as it is actually magnificently located with stunning views. However take note that you will need to call for a buggy ride or make a 1km hike every time you want to eat or get to the main house. If you are self driving, no issues as you can park right next to the cottage. Anyway it's a small price to pay for an unlimited view of the milky way and seclusion. This is as close to a Ryokan experience as you can get in China, minus the hot springs. 3 days 2 nights of blissful, carefree living is not quite enough. They make sure they feed you well, with the freshest produce available for hotpot dinner and home-cooked Yunnanese dishes for lunch. There are so many activities organised, from taking you up the mountain for a glimpse of sunrise (with mountain goats for company ❤️) to coffee plantation education tour to horseback riding along the mountain ridges (the view is spectacular!) to scavenging for wild vegetables and fruits to drinking, dancing and singing around the campfire! So much to do, so little time! One area of improvement I personally would like to see is the coffee serving. They tend to be quite snobbish about how their coffee is taken. Neat, with nothing else. Asking for sugar or milk feels nearly scorned upon. Coffee is a versatile drink and can be savoured in a huge variety of ways. How else is Starbucks so successful? I felt kind of stifled and deprived because I love a good latte and had looked forward to enjoying an unlimited indulgence of coffee throughout our stay. Anyhow, I love the ecotourism efforts here. It feels natural and unpretentious. I love the people and the camaraderie they cultivate. I especially enjoyed talking to their consultant 敬梅, a beautiful lady with extensive knowledge in Yunnan culture and ecological progress. Also thank you to 徐芳 for arranging transport back to town and giving helpful recommendations. We hope to return again.

Gaozhuang/Starlight Night Market
The room was clean and tidy, the bedding was comfortable, and I had a good sleep. The hotel has a strategic location, convenient transportation and convenient travel. The hotel has complete facilities, elegant hotel environment, exquisite decoration and tasteful decoration. The breakfast at the hotel is rich and varied. The pineapple rice is delicious. The rice noodles cooked by the aunt are more delicious than those in restaurants outside. The driver recommended by the hotel, Master Li, is super enthusiastic. The car is very clean and well maintained. He has a strong sense of service and responsibility and treats his work very well. Serious and responsible, he always pays attention to tourists' requirements. We sometimes play very late and never rush him. He is super patient. He also made a guide before coming. Master Li optimized the itinerary according to our requirements. He is trustworthy, super recommended, and super energetic young man. .

The Old Town of Lijiang
Booked 2 rooms here so this is a duplicate of my other review —- Very good service and hospitality! Liaised with the owners via WeChat and they warmly welcomed us and picked us from the car park, so we did not have to drag our luggages on the cobbled streets. It was a very short 2 minute walk to the hotel from the car park, and the hotel was at a good location to explore the other sights in Lijiang old town as well. You can enjoy tea with the owners and the stay also came with a good, hearty breakfast. There was also a nice patio Rooms were clean. Really enjoyed my stay :) Would recommend!

Sunac Resort Xishuangbanna
Great location with lots of food options in the neighborhood a short drive away or a bike ride away. The resort area comprises of Pullman, crowne plaza and Wanda. So if u prefer to eat in one of these hotels that’s an option but much more pocket friendly options in the area too outside of this hotel area but close by. Rooms are comfortable. An outdoor and indoor pool are available but the indoor one water is too cold and needs to be regulated. The steam and sauna are not always on so if u are the first one to use like in my case then u have to wait till it heats up and gets fully operational. Steam worked great but sauna not so good. Jacuzzi was busted and non-operational. Don’t forget to get ur swimming caps as even though outdoor pool one is not required but if it rains u must go to the indoor one as per hotel rules and for indoor u need a cap and to buy one at site is very expensive. The check in desk person Jacky Chen was very nice and helpful. Smooth check in process. Eva he at the breakfast buffet was also very kind and friendly and all the staff generally were good. However the staff at the front entrance gate need to be trained better to talk to customers like they normally should to customers but I felt they were very rude although it was not there intention to be rude. They just need better training. Parking is not allowed around the entrance circle but many people are allowed to park and is not consistent. If they allow one car to park then they should allow all. Local cars should not get preference. Even the help staff at the breakfast should be trained a little more to serve customers as it was quite chaotic. Overall a pleasant stay but some improvements required as highlighted above.

Black Dragon Pond
As international travellers who don't speak Chinese well, our first experience of Lijiang was made wonderful thanks to our decision to stay at Dublin Inn. Of all the hotels we stayed in throughout our trip, Dublin Inn offered an experience that rivals five-star hotels. First of all, its location outside the North entrance is perfect for those who want to enjoy some peace and quiet after a busy day of exploring Lijiang Ancient Town. It is also a 5-7 minute pleasant walk along the river to the Black Dragon Pond scenic area. We enjoyed free airport pick up and free room upgrade (although we noticed that all their rooms featured five-star comfort and thoughtful touches for travellers). Our suite on the third floor had his and hers sinks, a separate bathtub and rain shower, an electronic bidet toilet, a designer hair dryer, and Perricone MD toiletries. We enjoyed daily in-room minibar, traditional semi-buffet breakfast, afternoon tea and evening dessert treats in the inn's cafe and reading lounge, chatting with fellow travellers. We also loved the tranquil stone garden courtyard with its misty Koi pond. What stood out the most for us were the hospitable Inn staff: we were warmly greeted like old friends over Yunnan Pu'erh tea tasting and rose flower cakes by the reception lady and butler Xiao Hai (小海). Even before we arrive, the Inn staff proactively contacted us via Weixin chat to confirm airport pick up, our meal dietary requirements and to offer information help for travel planning. Throughout our stay, they kept in touch with us through Weixin for daily meal services, housekeeping, evening turndown services and hotel activities like aromatherapy candle making. Butler Xiao Hai was especially friendly and sincere in his interaction with guests. He offered free old town guided visits, arranged Lijiang daytrips and chartered a great driver at reasonable cost for our onward travel to Tiger Leaping Gorge and Shangri-La City. He would stop to ask how our day went and gave insider tips for sightseeing and shopping. We highly recommend Dublin Inn to international travellers who want to experience Lijiang on a more intimate level. We only hope we can return soon to the warmth and hospitality of the Inn. Thank you!

Shuanglang Scenic Area
Next to Shuanglang Ancient Town, you can go shopping in Shuanglang on foot, which is very convenient. The B&B is very new. Each floor of the 3-story building has a public leisure area. You can directly see the Erhai Lake. It is very comfortable to sit there. The facilities in the room are also very complete. It is highly recommended to stay here. The guys at the B&B were very enthusiastic. They picked us up in the parking lot and gave us sweet soup and flower cakes in the evening. We forgot to bring our clothes and even helped us send them to our next hotel. I really like it 👍

Lijiang Railway Station
The hotel is a little away from the old town (about 20 mins drive), but it is near the exit from the highway, for those driving in. The area is still under construction, so lacks charm. The first impression of the lobby also does not give off a very classy vibe. It is an enormous hanger with lots of stuff dotted around, and no clear flow. There is also a crappy tea shop shoved into the corner that looks like it is taken from a cheap, regional Chinese airport. So not the greatest check in impressions. The hotel is really new, so the corridors and rooms are in great shape, and well up to standard for the money. We were also able to pay 138 RMB each for the full dinner buffet in the exec lounge, which was delicious, and had a great range of foods. Good view of Yulong snow mountain from the hotel too. There are some rough around the edges parts in common areas, but the hotel parts are very nice, and recommended.

Erhai Park
The hotel environment is very good, right on the Erhai Lake. The service provided by the welcome ambassador Coco is also very attentive and thoughtful, and the experience is very good. The breakfast and afternoon tea are also rich and taste good. The top recommendation of AccorHotels made my trip even more perfect, not to mention the location, view and service, especially the welcoming ambassador Coco, who was considerate and considerate. I recommend everyone to stay at the Pullman Dali.

Dukezong Ancient City
I have stayed in many hotels in Shangrila old town over the past 12 years so have a little experience. Location: Close to the top dancing square but at the top of a very steep hill. It had rained so the stone street was VERY slippery. It is close to impossible to walk up the hill with suitcase. There is a 1/2 meter wide ***** of carpet that was laid down on the right side of the road going up the hill. It gave great traction, but unfortunately some non-thinking person had parked their electric cart directly on top of the carpet so you could not navigate it. I arrived at 6 PM and that electric cart was still sitting on the carpet in the same place the next morning at 9 AM. Trying to walk around the electric cart , but I did slip and fell to the ground. I would not come back to this hotel again, if there was any potential for any rain. The picture is of the morning after the rain had dried. When I booked my room, they did tell me that there was only one room remaining and it was for four people. I was solo but I booked it anyway. Unfortunately, I did not understand that there are four beds that are actually side-by-side touching each other. They are very very thin pads laid on top of a wooden platform. No way to get into or out of any bed without crawling back to the foot of the bed and going over the edge that way. It was the hardest sleeping service I have ever been on and got very little sleep. If I had my sleeping bag and camping mattress, I would’ve just slept on the floor. Won’t be back here again. The service people at the hotel were very nice. Offered to carry my bag up to my room on the third floor and the woman who provided the breakfast in the morning was very pleasant. Have no complain about the service just the beds in the access to the hotel. If it’s raining, make it a no go for me
On the banks of the Mekong River Baima B&B

Gaozhuang/Starlight Night Market
The BaiMa (White Horse) Hotel is on the 9th floor of a beautifully designed building. It has a tea drinking area at the elevators. The whole hotel, including in the rooms, has pictures of what I think is an expedition race the owner took part in -- but it's not overdone. The location is perfect, right on the center west of the new north-side of downtown JingHong (main tourist area). Right beside the night market. Delicious food found at the restaurants nearby. Corner store (with decent wine) downstairs. Motorcycle and scooter rental down the street in front of the hotel. The best views of the Mekong! The room was big, spacious, and postmodern (contemporary) in decor -- very comfortable and still having personality, not just a ”white room” as so many hotels are styling themselves as, these days. There is even a small fridge and a full-sized washing machine! The bathtub on the balcony was very romantic. The cost was worth it, compared to more expensive rooms in other hotels. The staff was beyond helpful, first by allowing me to choose which room I would have, and second, by helping me order flowers and food to my room. They even brought us free chopped fruit. They had cleaned my room during the day when I went out, even changing the bedsheets when they noticed the sheets were dirty.... +++ The only negatives I can think of is that the AC does not make the room cold enough for a spoiled Westerner like me (but most people won't have a problem with that), and the tub on the balcony is still missing it's fixtures. Oh, and the pictures of the racers above the bed was a bit strange. Of course, I wish it was cheaper, but actually the price is probably fair considering the cost of other hotels and how well done this hotel is. Overall, a beautiful and excellent hotel, and I highly recommend it.
