Matala Dimitris Resort
4.1/520 Reviews
I am actually sat by pool with an ice cold draught beer whilst writing this review. What can I say 🤔 absolutely fantastic experience. Such friendly and welcoming people not just 1 but everyone I met. Rooms are very clean and tidy and cleaned daily. Only thing for me missing was a kettle as like a coffee when I 1st get up. But wasn't a problem as stroll 70 yards to the magnificent pool area for breakfast and as much coffee as you would like. Lovely continental breakfast couldn't fault it . I would recommend dimitris to all my friends and at such an excellent price. Just a 5 minute stroll to the beach and restaurants of matala and no hassle of trying to find a parking space. Much exceeded my expectations.
Calypso Hotel
3.6/59 Reviews
My boyfriend and I spent the first week of May in this hotel and were generally very impressed. In some places you can see that it is only a 2-star hotel. But the positives far outweigh the negatives, especially as we then spent another week in a 3-star hotel on the north coast and thus have a direct comparison. We were a bit unlucky that the Calypso was opening for the season on the day we arrived, May 1st, only 3 of 50 rooms were occupied and a few ”childhood” (=winter) illnesses occurred during these days, such as the defective hot water heater. For the sake of simplicity, I will list all the pros and cons as follows. Pros: Quiet location Small complex with short distances Family-run business Lovingly designed, beautiful garden Hotel's own car park Matala village center within walking distance Clean rooms Separate terraces on the ground floor Clotheslines and pegs on the terrace Large TV Refrigerator in the room Fly screens on the room windows Large wardrobe Very friendly staff Good coffee machine at breakfast Wheat beer on offer Cons: No hot water for 3 days Several power outages Room near the pool bar can be noisy (wasn't in operation yet) Uncomfortable mattress No enclosed dining room, extremely drafty in cool weather Continental breakfast buffet, so little choice Inadequate tea selection at breakfast (black tea or camomile tea) Hot food from the buffet is usually tasty, but extremely boring, as there is only one meat/fish dish with 3 side dishes Salad buffet is always the same with a few exceptions Frequent repetitions to use up leftovers Conclusion: We would come again, but then only book B&B instead of half board and go into the village for dinner.
