Stayed here for a weekend getaway on weekend of July 6 this hotel is centrally located in the middle of everything which makes getting to most places walkable, place had alot of charm and character. Rooms are exceptionally clean, and maintenance staff does a good job maintaining them considering age of this place. Management and staff are what makes this place, all very polite and ready to assist you. If you are going to be staying in Newport in the near future this is a GREAT pick for a home away from home with great location!

My family and I had a wonderful stay at the Vanderbilt. I only regret that we did don’t stay longer. We loved how the hotel and our room was decorated. The staff were all wonderful, especially Elizabeth. Going above and beyond to accommodate my family and make us feel special and taken care of. If we come back to Newport we would definitely return to the Vanderbilt. Thank you for a wonderful stay

Excellent stay at the Outlook Inn in Newport. Very nice, clean, quiet and cosy room, perfect bathroom with great shower, easy check-in and cherry on the cake the opportunity to park the car within walking distance still downtown Newport. The bed was extremely comfortable with perfect pillows. The breakfast was a real delight with a full variety to choose from served on the top floor by very kind and dedicated staff that prepared our meal on site. I would recommend 150% to every travellor to Newport to stay there. The only ”minus” was the fact that there were no plugs to recharge the cell phones on the night table next to the bed but only at the opposite site of the bed. Also the TV Channels were limited to many local TV , Sports channels and FOX TV. CNN, BBC world etc were missing, which is more of interest for international travellers like us from Belgium.

This hotel exudes charm and the location is probably the best of all of the hotels available in Newport. You can Walk to almost anywhere you’d like to go in Newport from the hotel. The hotel is over 100 years old so it has some quirks like very small bathrooms. The first room we were given was unsatisfactory, after a second trip to the front desk to complain, we were upgraded to a more satisfactory room. This seems like a standard operating procedure for most hotels these days. I guess it’s a game you have to play in order to get a decent room. But one should not have to do that when they’re Paying premium prices. The in-room amenities were Lacking a bit. We were disappointed in our stay. When we booked, we specifically selected ”water view” and the room was advertised as having 2 ”queen” beds. Although perhaps both were technically true, we certainly felt ripped off. The view we had was actually into the atrium where you could technically see the water through a window all the way across the atrium - a couple hundred feet away. The beds may have been bigger than full but were at least 6” less than a typical 60” wide queen. Since we paid extra for the view we didn't feel it was worth the price. The room out of that context was nice, but it had no complementary bottled water or coffee and at checkout we were told that was due to Covid somehow which made no sense to us. The walls were also pretty thin and it felt like someone was flushing the toiled right next to me while I was in bed. Overall it was clean and the staff was friendly but it was not what we expected for $700/night.

I like to start off with positives - great breakfast with many delicious options, comfortable bed, cheerful and courteous kitchen staff. Our checkin was less than friendly or professional. Our first room had black mold which was clearly visible in and around the ceiling air vent. When brought to the attention of the front desk person, we were not only challenged but advised nothing could be done-thery were full despite a well lit ”vacancy ” sign. The front desk staff finally relented and magically another room became available. It was basically the size of a walkin closet. The young lady at the front desk was clearly inexperienced. Not once was there an apology for the inconvenience, ”how do we make this right” just another example of how customer service is long gone. We were told that parking was included at the time the reservation was made however we had to pay for parking at the rate of $20 a day. Our last day, despite a locked door and DND sign on the doorknob housekeeping let themselves in while we were sleeping. We were jolted awake. If all you want is a decent room and great location- walking distance to everywhere-this is the place for you. We won't be back and would not recommend. The front desk staff needs training in hospitality and customer service. Combative, argumentative and, really unfriendly and unwelcoming.
