Bella Vista Motel Te Anau
4.5/524 Reviews
Excellent place to stay in Te Anau. Ticked all the boxes. We travel a lot so am fussy. Warm, comfortable beds with electric blankets. Great heater in the room (we were there in the middle of winter). Fantastic shower. Very clean. Easy walk to town. Quiet location. Welcoming friendly host with lots of good suggestions. Could not fault this place at all. Highly recommend. Of course everyone will be going to Milford from here but a visit to the glow worm cave was a surprisingly good trip. Really enjoyed that.
Aden Motel

We stayed at Aden Motel just one night after returning from Milford Sound. The apartment was extremely spacious, comfortable and had well appointed amenities. The beds were comfy and my favourite part of the room was the heater that was facing the shower area, when we were in Te Anau it was around 9-10 degrees Celsius so we were freezing and because we had the heater while showering I felt so warm and at home. In the morning we were greeted by resident dog Molly and her friend Rocky who were so friendly my daughter can’t stop gushing about them. Will definitely recommend!
Lakefront Lodge

Compared with other cities in New Zealand, the price/performance ratio is not high. It feels that the hotels in Te Anau are a bit expensive, but the overall room is still satisfactory, and the cheaper is better.
Tower Lodge Motel

Facilities: All necessary, you can also cook in the room, there are ovens, microwaves, electric heating stoves, etc. Hygiene: clean and tidy Environment: The overall property is very spacious. There is a small hall plus a room and a bathroom. There is a parking space at the door of the room. Service: Very enthusiastic, will proactively ask about your next travel plan, and give you some suggestions and city maps to help you better experience the surrounding scenery.
Manapouri Lakeview Motor Inn

Booked two nights here to have one before and after our trip to Milford Sound. Welcomed on arrival and directed to our room with parking available outside the door. Room was clean and well appointed. Kettle, cups, plates, small refrigerator. TV. Great view from the balcony/shared landing outside our door that had a small table and a couple of comfortable chairs. We sat here both evenings even the one that was cool and breezy. Laundry facilities on site, very cheap and worked great. Had snacks and beers at the onsite bar/grill, separate from the hotel for charging, but reasonable prices and extremely friendly. Would recommend.
Asure Explorer Motel & Apartments

My wife and I took a self drive touring holiday on South Island New Zealand from the 17th March to the 11th April 2023. Apart from the first 2 nights and the last night where we stayed in a hotel in Christchurch we were self catering and stayed in accommodation that offered cooking facilities. I have reviewed each of the hotel/motels we stayed in. The following reviews cover the accommodation and some of the facilities/visits we made on the trip. If you would like to view the rest of the reviews please click on my username and all my reviews will be listed. 9th to 12th days of our self drive tour of South Island March/April 2023 Asure Exporer Motel Te Anau. We stayed at the Explorer Motel for four nights from 23rd to 27th March. Welcome. We were welcomed by the owner Mary who gave us some milk. Mary showed us two different apartments and gave us a choice of which one to take. We took a room on the first floor. Mary was very nice and provided us with a lot of information about the area, the various trips and where to eat including The Te Anau Club. This is a type of working mens club, but open to non members. (See my separate review) Mary kindly booked us on a trip to Marlborough Sound for the following day. Service. Both Nigel and Mary were very accommodating. Nigel carried our suitcases up the stairs for us. Our room was serviced every day and the cleaner even cleared and put away our washing up. Location. The Motel is located on the edge of the town centre. There are a number of restaurants and a medium size supermarket about 5 minutes walk away. Comfort. The room was quite large, one of the largest we stayed in on our trip. It was very nice. It was light and airy and decorated to a high standard. It contained a king bed, a queen bed, armchairs, a coffee table, a dining table and chairs and a kitchenette with microwave, standard fridge, cooking utensils and an electric frying pan. The unit did not have a hotplate but Nigel the co-owner provided us with a portable hotplate and two saucepans. We were able to cook all the meals we needed to. There was a large flat screen TV. The bathroom was nice and reasonably large with an excellent shower and electric wall heater. The room had wide patio doors and a balcony with table and chairs overlooking the well kept garden. Cleanliness. The room and bathroom were very clean. The bedding was clean and good quality. The towels were good quality. WiFi. The WiFi was a bit patchy. Mary allowed me to use the motel’s private network so that I got a stronger signal. Mary and Nigel are planning to improve the Wifi network and have engaged a consultant to make improvements. So if you come to The Explorer Motel from now on the WiFi should be better. Conclusion. Overall this was one of the best places we stayed at during our 4 week tour.. Comfortable, clean and the owners were very nice and accommodating. If we returned to Te Anau we would stay here again.
Radfords on the Lake
4.7/556 Reviews
This is a great motel, with a great location, right by the lake, and only a 5-minute walk to the tourist center. The front desk service was very good, and they enthusiastically recommended restaurants and entertainment in the town. The room and the living room are not very big, but the layout is reasonable, very clean, and all kinds of facilities are available. There are two small suggestions. One is that there is only one trash can, and you can put one in the living room; the other is that the bedding and mattresses can be reduced appropriately. There were too many extra bedding and mattresses on the first night.
The Village Inn Hotel Te Anau

The room is full, the toilet has been renovated, the network is very fast, very close to the town center and the lake, cost-effective, it is a good stop to Milford sound
Marakura Deluxe Motel
4.4/527 Reviews
Warm, spacious, clean and comfortable. The bed was the most comfortable I've had on this trip, the heat pump had the room toasty on arrival. Kitchenette was perfect and had everything I needed to cook a meal. Gorgeous view of the lake and town, very close to the bird sanctuary and and easy walk to the centre. Feels separate from the holiday park and a really good value for money deal.
Alpenhorn Motel

We arrived to find our key sellotaped to the office door. Turns out the office isn't staffed any more. This wasn't particularly a problem, but it meant that things like borrowing dvds wasn't possible (and TV was poor, so we would have liked to have borrowed one). Also, the motel book in the room said that the room would be serviced every day ( not to make beds, but to empty bins and provide additional tea and coffee supplies). Our room was not serviced during our stay. Room was ok, but very tried looking. The room slept 4 people and had cooking facilities, but we had just 1 bowl, 2 plates and cutlery for 2. None of the crockery or cutlery matched, which just gave the impression of being uncared for and tired. There was a broken chair outside the bedroom door with the previous occupants cigarette butts in. Gardens for all motel rooms are joined, so we returned back from a day out to find that the man next door was using our chairs to dry his washing on! We could see that the motel is up for sale and it felt like the owners had lost interest. Location was very good, just one road back from the lake ( and easy access to the lake via a gennel).
