I stayed at the Aberdeen Douglas Hotel for a short period before heading offshore, as arranged by my company. Despite its convenient city centre location and friendly, helpful staff at check-in, I found several aspects of the hotel lacking. The hotel is large, and navigating to some rooms requires a considerable walk through various corridors. The rooms themselves are quite dated and in need of an upgrade. My room, number 117, contained a small double bed, a single bed, and a sofa bed. The bathroom had a shower over the bath, and the window had restricted opening and frosted glass, likely due to the unappealing view of building backs and rooftops. While the bathroom had a clean, disinfected smell, I was disappointed to find bits of crisps and other rubbish under the bedside table, which was very off-putting. The bed was comfortable enough, but the lack of nearby power or USB sockets was inconvenient. Additionally, the TV in the room was too small and too far away to be watched comfortably from the bed. The restaurant menu was limited and overpriced, so I chose to dine out. Breakfast started at 7 am, which was too late for my schedule, so I didn't experience it. Instead, I was given a breakfast bag with a ham sandwich, crisps, a bottle of water, and a piece of fruit. In summary, I would not recommend staying at the Aberdeen Douglas Hotel in its current state. While the hotel has potential, it requires significant investment to improve its comfort and overall appeal.
