Arrived late after dinner and were shown to a dungeon room with a tiny basement window. The room was hot and stuff with no air con. The bed is possibly the most uncomfortable hotel bed I’ve had in a long time. It was cheap and springy with scratchy bedding and thin, useless pillows. Far below the expectations set out in their website. The light on the desk phone also lit up the whole room until 3am when it eventually dulled. There were no robes which is fairly standard in good hotels which is what Chester market themselves to be. I’m 6 months pregnant and what was a last minute get away child free with my husband, on a whim I booked here instead of Mal next door. Instead of having a lovely night away and enjoying a hotel bed and relaxing time I’m leaving with a sore back and neck, tired and grumpy with a stuffy nose. The bathroom was nice. I’m sure there are decent rooms here perhaps with better beds and bedding but certainly not my experience. If a hotel has basement rooms they should really advise guests of this in advance. The bed and bedding and overall room experience falls short on expectations set by this hotel. I would not recommend at all.

The Chester is right on a major bus line into the city so it's easy to get around. The staff are nice and helpful and the rooms are great (and quiet).

We had a lovely time I was looking forward to having a fillet steak but was told they didn’t have any but what I had instead was lovely. What made our night was the lovely waiter Andrew from beginning to end. Everything is expensive so beware before you go

An outstanding beautifully designed hotel with a wonderful ambience in the heart of the West End . Susannah , Josh and others looked after our table of 5 on a Monday night with great aplomb and the cooking was faultless . Dècor , artwork , relaxing vibe all helped create a 10/10 dining experience and genuinely the food , wine and service were at good 5 star level .

Excellent Sunday lunch today. Six of us enjoyed the two course menu which is excellent value for £30. The roast sirloin was juicy and tender, and the bone marrow stuffed Yorkshire was delicious. Lots of veg and separate serving of cauliflower cheese. Very generous portion, although I think the potato puree is unnecessary when you already have roast potatoes. I didn’t have dessert but the rest were raving about the crème brûlée. Service has really improved, and our waitress Claire was a delight. Highly recommend giving this a go, and the outdoor space was really lovely today.

We went to the hotel for a family birthday meal expecting to get top notch service. What we got was the worst service I have experienced on a long while. Couldn't see anybody to order drinks throughout meal, meals were being delivered to wrong tables, couldn't even get our coffee order correct at end. When I was coming back from Ladies there were 3 staff chatting at a different bar. Absolutely terrible service letting down an upmarket establishment. We won't be back and I will be telling all my friends the same !!!
