We visited friends in Amherst and didn’t realize this was “move-in” weekend at UMass. Our normal hotel was over $500 a night. We found the Black Walnut Inn at half the price, but boy…the experience was twice as good! The room was wonderful, with exposed beams which added to the ambiance. The staff was so welcoming and helpful and the breakfast each morning was bountiful, well-prepared and delicious. We will drop our regular hotel from now on and plan to only stay at the Black Walnut Inn from now on!

We always look forward to our stay at the Black Walnut Inn. It never disappoints. Our room was large, well appointed and very quiet. The Inn provides a plentiful breakfast with fresh made options. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We definitely return on our next visit to the Amherst region.

The Black Walnut Inn has been much more than an extremely comfortable, beautifully designed and furnished hotel room during my weeks in this neck of the woods to visit with my ill sister. The owners of this place are incredibly kind, good people. They have gone far out of their way for me, almost as if we were family. I cannot thank them adequately.

I stayed at the inn overnight when visiting my daughter at UMass Amherst. We stayed in the Mulberry Room which was a nice size. Bed was comfortable. The inn was clean and quiet. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff was very friendly. Very convenient location.

This was the second time my wife and I stayed at this inn. We are constantly amazed by the attention to detail at every aspect of this place. Everything is immaculate, you would be hard pressed to find a speck of dust anywhere. The breakfasts we enjoyed were fantastic. The added bonus is the homemade jams that are to die for. We will definitely keep this on our list of places to stay.

Reminded us of the indigenous roots of the area and the family. The fresh eggs came from local chickens. The breakfasts were so spectacular and the table setting so perfect that we thought we were breakfasting at Downton Abbey. Wonderful.

This was our first visit to Amherst and we enjoyed it immensely. Comfortable room, professional friendly staff, dogs and chickens on the grounds, excellent breakfast. Location could not be better - near the Emily Dickinson Museum and all of the UMass colleges. A great place to stay.

Staying here was the highlight of my summer (so far). The room (Webster) was so cozy it felt like I was staying in a fictional aunt's spare bedroom. The breakfast was cooked to order and delicious and I was sad when it ended...I could have sat on that porch with coffee all day. And my son loved helping to gather the eggs for breakfast from the on site chicken coop. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

This property is in excellent condition, with distinctive antiques and quality window treatments. My room was large, comfortable, and quiet. Smallish tv but I was surprised (& frankly pleased!) to have a tv at all in this setting. Shower had good pressure, another pleasant surprise given it is an old property. Friendly service. A delicious, cooked-to-order breakfast is included. When they offered banana bread the first day of my stay and I mentioned my aversion to bananas, they made blueberry muffins the next day instead. So thoughtful! My understanding is the owners have been running this Inn for 30+ years, which is unusual in this day and age. Their care, detail and attentive service is evident. The Black Walnut Inn is a gem.
