Athens Hub Hostel Reviews

I want to start by saying that we seemed to get very unlucky at this hostel and our experience doesn’t seem to match with others however I will provide an honest review. First the good: dorms were clean, bathrooms a suitable size and clean, location perfect, all staff were absolute angels, bar food and drinks perfect, rooftop nice. The bad: I unfortunately have acquired an ankle injury on my travels meaning I am unable to safely climb up and down ladders. I emailed all future hostels requesting a bottom bunk or if that wasn’t possible figuring out something else when this happened giving this hostel about 2 weeks notice. They responded to my email very quickly confirming that since we had booked 2 beds, 1 would be a top and the other a bottom. However when we arrived we were assigned 2 top bunks. I made no attempt to change this on the first night believing that I may be able to hobble my way up and avoid inconveniencing them since the hostel was full. However at 1am when I had to hobble out of the bunk and proceeded to fall off the ladder injuring my ankle more it became apparent that I would have to request a bunk change. I believed this would be easy considering the person sleeping below me was checking out and I could take her bunk. Since the night person at reseption wouldn’t be able to do anything I just slept on the beenbag in the room. I waited until the morning shift came on and explained my issue of not being able get to my bed and having requested a bottom bunk and that being confirmed. The reseption desk person was very nice but ultimately told me she was unable to change the bunks and she would have to contact management. We left for our daily activities and when we got back management had confirmed the bottom bunk and all was good. It seemed to be a system error that created the issue however it was extremely stressful to work out. The next problem we had was the horrid Bed Bugs! One girl in our dorm told us upon her arrival that the previous night she had been bitten by bed bugs. She informed reseption and apparently they changed all the sheets in the room and gave her some medicine for the bites. We then checked our beds and found no sign of the bugs so believed that they were taken care of. This is until on our last night I was sitting in bed early morning and 2 bugs walked across my pillow. I quickly killed them and left the bed. I had to wait until 7:30am for the main reseption person to arrive to report the bugs. When I did they were very apologetic however didn’t seem concerned and didn’t seem to have an obvious bed bug policy in place. I worry that the linen will just be changed again instead of them fumigating the room as needed. As I have said earlier in the review this is a stroke of very bad luck and would still recommend this hostel. I would just give it a week or two so they can deal with the bugs.
