Staying at the Dunlop Inn was a fantastic experience and I would definitely recommend it. The inn itself is very well maintained and clean. The location is beautiful. Our room was spotless. Cozy but definitely not too small. The continental breakfast was plentiful and it was a delight to sit on the outside deck drinking coffee and looking at the water. Paradise! The proprietor was very friendly but not intrusive. I cannot wait to go back!

The property itself is lovely. Although right next door to a boat yard and across the street from an automotive repair/sales shop. Breakfast was included and fairly straightforward and available until 10:00am which is nice. Deck facing water is nice but some of the deck chairs were cracked and all them were in need of replacement. We booked our room online and looked forward to a garden view room. What we got was the front downstairs parlour converted into a small, dark room. The washroom was built in the early 90’s or so and made the smaller cramped room even smaller. The windows faced the entrance of the house and the road/auto shop. If the window shades were open we were exposed to the street and the boatyard and everyone who came or went into the inn. There was an a/c unit but it didn’t work well and kept turning itself down and then turning back on every 30 minutes. We spent the entire night awake and hot bc we couldn’t keep windows open wo having the bright lights from the entrance way shining into our room for anyone to look in at ground level at us sleeping. Sleep was impossible bc of this and also bc the bed was very old and in dire need of mattress replacement. At 279.00 a night we felt duped. It was the only room on the ground floor and was not advertised as the room we received. When we mentioned this the next morning and asked for one of the upstairs rooms we were told there weren’t any available. We said fine and that we would leave that day instead of staying. The front desk woman told us we would have to stay in the room bc they had a 14 day cancellation policy, however we could switch over to their motel down the street. We didn’t want to stay in a motel and at this point just wanted to leave. She was adamant that we would have to pay and stay / pay and motel it or pay and leave. She did say we could sit around and wait and if they could rebook our room then we were free to go. We felt held hostage on our vacation. It was really stressful and unprofessional. We were fairly vocal about what we thought about this and she finally spoke to the owner and we were “allowed” to go and told we would not be responsible for the second night. The room we were given was #5. The Mabel Bell room. It shouldn’t be offered as a 279 a night room. It was awful. Don’t know what upstairs rooms look like but would recommend being sure you don’t get #5.

We chose the Dunlop Inn for its waterfront location and the views exceeded our expectations. We loved sitting on the deck for breakfast while looking across the harbour to the lighthouse and seeing the sailboats bobbing along. The Inn is charming, clean and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our delicious dinner at the Cable Room in The Telegraph house. Be sure to see the Baddeck Gathering Ceilidh (Scottish music) which is performed every night at Baddeck's St. Michael's Hall. We also enjoyed dinner at the Freight Shed on the wharf. This was a fantastic jumping off point for the Cabot Trail.

Love this place! Great location - in town, near restaurant and awesome views of the water! The house is right on the water - beautiful unobstructed views complete with Adirondack chairs on dock and another sitting area outside with a gas fireplace. Breakfast tasty although we had to find another outlet for the toaster but figured it out and was satisfied. Free parking. Beds were comfortable and warm. Checkin was informative and smooth. Got a great recommendation for dinner at Freightshed and it was right next door and so delicious! Thanks Dunlop inn. I definitely would recommend and return when in neighborhood.

We were greeted at check in by our friendly host and enjoyed rooms with all amenities thoughtfully prepared. The rooms and common areas were very tastefully decorated and offered a very calming presence. We thoroughly enjoyed the outside deck and dock, as well as the TV room. The breakfasts were fantastic and offered enough to set you up for the day. The location is very convenient for exploring Cape Breton. Our host was very helpful with providing itineraries and restaurant suggestions.

Fabulous B & B on the waterfront. We stayed in the Lighthouse room with amazing views across the water, watching the sunrise. Facilities were very good, with a good breakfast choice. Towels and bedding were of a high quality. Off road parking available. In a great location to explore the Cabot Trail. Opposite the Alexander Graham Bell museum. Would highly recommend.

This is a really sweet place on the water’s edge. Staff are really helpful and friendly. Room 1 upstairs had an ensuite ( small but perfectly fine) . Towels, sheets and bathroom accessories are high quality , and the bed very comfortable . I really liked the breakfast - fresh fruit, yoghurt, juice, eggs, bagels , cheese etc etc and good tea and coffee. There is a lovely sitting room and an outdoor setting . Highly recommend.

Wonderful guest house connected to the Telegraph House just up the street. The room offered plenty of space. The shower was great and the bed and pillows were quite comfortable. There was a very nice walkout to a beach with assorted amenities we could have used were we staying longer. Breakfast was on the first floor and there was a lot to choose from, all very tasty, served buffet style. But the best treat was dinner the first night in the dining room in the Telegraph House. A farm to table experience, it was one of the best meals we had over 2 weeks in Nova Scotia. But be sure to make reservations in advance. The service was also great (thanks, Jade!). And the owner, Shawn, was great! Lots of good tips, especially for more off-the common trail places, as we mapped our trip into Cape Bretton Highlands National Park. The town is super cute with a great café (The High Wheeler) where we had lunch, breakfast, and bought some yummy fresh baked treats. We look forward to returning to stay at the Dunlop house again.

We had two nights here as part of a fly drive tour of the Maritime Provinces. This is a charming bed and breakfast on the Baddeck waterfront opposite the Alexander Graham Bell museum site. It's a lovingly refurbished/updated property that's comfortable, welcoming and with character. We stayed in the Lighthouse room. Planty of space, comfortable bed, good toiletries and a nice, well presented modern bathroom. There was an unusual large sliding door (it reminded me of a barn door) available to separate the bedroom and bathroom if you wanted but after nearly 50 years of marriage we didn't bother! The decor is different, well done and fun. But the views are absolutely gorgeous of the lake, and boats and lighthouse. The weather was good when we were here so it was particularly nice. The windows come with very efficient blinds so we didn't have the usual problem of curtains not meeting. The whole room had a modern, airy and spacious feel. There's a sitting room with views which we enjoyed after dinner. And you can sit on the back porch or deck (as we did) and enjoy the views of the lake. We chatted with a number of members of staff - several being related to the owners- who were a delight to engage with and made our stay memorable. The wifi was good but there was no TV in our room: that was no problem for us and there is one available in the sitting room, but it might be a deal breaker for some. Lovely continental breakfast in morning - plenty of choice and very tasty - and the chance to chat around a communal table with your fellow guests. We couldn't fault the Dunlop Inn
