Ice House Hotel

I had a fantastic birthday stay and was wonderfully taken care of by Rachel and Rowen in the restaurant—they were both so lovely! The service at the spa was excellent, thanks to Katrina, and Ashling made sure we were well looked after. Matthew at the front desk is always friendly and helpful. Will be back!

We stayed here for our honeymoon. We had a resort in Thailand planned but our friends were getting married the week after our wedding in Clare. We stayed here instead...oh my God it's amazing! They gave us a complimentary romantic turndown with rose petals and during our evening meal surprised us with congratulations written on the dessert plate. The food is impeccable in both the restaurant and the bar! Food: Restaurant: We had goats cheese roulade and brie starter. We had steak and duck main. Pecan pie and berry crumble for dessert. 10/10 Bar: We had chilli prawn tacos (oh my this is amazing and must try) and the wild mushroom linguine (again an absolute must try! In fact, just copy our order and trust you'll be delighted. Atmosphere: Everything about this place is super romantic. The vibe is chill, the staff let you relax but are attentive to anything you need. Again it's 5 star from a guest perspective, currently they're on 4 stars and they really deserve that 5 star title. Spa: Unfortunately the spa treatments weren't available during our stay, so we booked the mud baths, this was very relaxing, baths overlook the river and it's picturesque. It rained a little but nothing could put a dampen on our spa day. The hot tubs overlooking the river are also incredible. Access to hot tub and thermal suites are complimentary with the stay. The mud baths are €80-100 each, but for an occasion worth a try! Thank you so much to everyone here for making us feel special and topping our honeymoon expectations! We decided you'll be out anniversary dinner location from now on, seeing as Darver castle where we married was only a wedding venue and doesn't offer hotel or restaurant experiences. 10/10 recommend. We had a spa day at the Chill Spa. The spa is fabulous and the amenities are great. The prices however are getting a bit high. The package we went for was €270 in January, an increase of €26 since last year, which is okay as most items in Ireland have had an increasein the last 12 months. Last year it was €244 (last February), so an increase of €26. However, we just went to book again and see its now gone up to €285 since last month. That's another €15. If the prices keep going this way it's unfortunately not going to be value for money. That's two increases in 12 months at 18%!!

We recently stayed for 2 nights on our mini moon and told the hotel on booking and on checking-in that it was a very special stay but they did nothing to personalise it or to mark the occasion for us which was very disappointing. The spa was a lovely experience and the hot tubs and baths overlooking the River Moy are well worth it. Dinner was also delicious. The hotel's outlook over the River and forest beyond is beautiful but the level of customer service you receive and the rooms themselves are fairly standard and we didn't feel that our stay justified its c. €1200 cost and left feeling a bit ripped off. My advice would be come to the Ice House for dinner/ a spa day but don't stay.

I'll start with the positives. Great location, beautiful clean room & hotel, friendly & helpful staff. Lovely Spa facilities. Food: Warm food on cold plates...completely unacceptable. My partner & I both ordered pork belly to start(a warm dish) , it was served on cold plates so by the time we were a few mouthfuls in, it was all cold. It took away from how nice the actual dish was. We both had steak for dinner. It was perfectly cooked(meduim) but the cut of meat wasnt good and lacked any seasoning. This was served with bland steamed vegetables. For €40.00 a steak one would at least expect to have a choice of seasoned onions & mushrooms to accompany it. Overall, as much as the hotel itself was nice, the food let it down big time.
