The Sally was a pleasant surprise! We were expecting a nice place to stay but this beat our expectations. Very nice dining room, good bar/pub and our room was superb... roomy, updated and modern. We had dinner and breakfast here and both were very good. Service for both meals was a bit slow but the food was very good and the portions were perfect. For Hadrian's Wall Path walkers, The Sally is short walk off the trail but not too inconvenient....15-40 minutes off the path depending on your direction. This was the only hotel on our Hadrian journey that had our bags in the room upon arrival and after walking 10-15 miles, it's nice not having to haul our bags upstairs!

We booked for four for a Friday evening and were glad we did as the restaurant was packed. Parking was also an issue but we managed to find a space on the road not to far away from the pub. There was a good choice on the menu and they were able to cater for a couple of our party who had specific allergies. The food was really tasty, plentiful and well served and we all managed three courses, which was a bit piggy, but the deserts were so tasty. The staff were really friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Good selection of beers wine etc made for a great evening out.

Such a shame - nice room, delightful staff and good food but pub v noisy much later than advertised right below our room and I finally put earplugs in at 12.48am as it was like sleeping in a night club. Not ideal when you are trying to get early night for walking the next day.

We went to the Sally for an evening meal- a family of four (all adults). We each had a starter and a main course. Sadly we were too full for a desert but maybe next time! All the food we had was delicious with a special mention to the warm pigeon salad. Service was very friendly, attentive without being obtrusive and quick without feeling rushed. A fabulous night out and our new venue for all special occasions.

We overnighted here after a long journey north and were absolutely delighted with what we found. Our room had everything we needed, was well decorated and spotlessly clean. We had a bath and an overhead shower that produced a good pressure stream of water (not as common as it should be). Downstairs the pub was very busy and having booked a table we were impressed with the wide menu (some pub favourites, a few twists and a list of specials). The food served to other tables looked superb, and we were not disappointed. Good sized portions, superbly cooked, containing local ingredients and amazingly tasty. It’s easy to see why the place was so busy. If you want to eat make sure you book to be assured of a table. The draft beers on offer included Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, and we were served a pint that had clearly come from a well looked after cellar. There is also a good wine list, we stuck to the beer. Staying B&B we were offered breakfast choices, and once again the mixture of superb cooking, large portions and quality food set us up for the day. Special mention should be made of the owner and his team, the friendly and welcoming service enhanced the stay further. Sadly we are not in the area frequently, but would stay again without hesitation.

Recently completed Hadrians Wall and had the pleasure of finding the gem of a nights stay at The Sally. Amy, Claire and the gent owner were perfect hosts and the decor and food was outstanding, The pub currently opens at 3pm (Sept 2023) but it is worth the wait with the hospitality and decor being top notch, Thanks for a great nights sleep and breakfast which set us up for the next days walking. Large outdoor seating area under cover and lots of parking.

Lovely spacious room with good attention to detail _- tasteful artwork, delicious biscuits, filter coffee maker, efficient lighting. It was spotlessly clean throughout. The bathroom had large towels and appealing fragrances with plenty of space for toiletries. We weren't able to have dinner here as we had another engagement but the breakfast choice and taste was amazing. We had an issue with a security light but this has been dealt with. We hope to visit again.
