Best hotel in Cascais. Everything is on a high level from the staff's politeness to the hotel's design and its location and the views from the room. Very good breakfast. Highly recommend!

We stayed with 3 people in a classic room. One bed was a rollaway bed, which i would not recommend for an adult. It was very uncomfortable as it was too hard. The king size beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was tasteful but the shower was very awkward with a sloping wall making access (squeezing past the toilet) very difficult. The hotel itself is very pretty and well maintained. The breakfast area and terrace are beautiful. Breakfast was good but not exceptional. You can order eggs with the waiter, which you will need to do. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly. The pool area was lovely. The pool was not heated or if it was, it was very cool, which was refreshing on a hot day. The hotel was very expensive but conveniently located.

We noticed the hotel on the way back from a day at the beach and saw that they offered afternoon tea, so we first enquired whether they could provide a gluten free afternoon tea and we were assured they could after checking with the manager. This was on the Friday and we booked for Monday as that was our last day in Cascais and we thought it would be a nice treat to end our holiday with. We arrived at the hotel and were seated on the terrace which was lovely. Shortly after we sat down one of the waiters came out and explained that they needed notice to make gluten free scones so they were unable to provide them and I was offered ice cream, not a good start as we had booked 4 days in advance of the booking. Then a sweet platter was delivered to the table, pictures included that included fruit skewers, chocolate mouse, chocolate truffles and a selection of macaroons and 3 non gluten free scones. My friend who is not gluten free asked where her cakes were and whether we were getting sandwiches which are normally served prior to the sweet course. The menu advertised finger sandwiches which was not what was delivered. No plates were cleared and we were not asked if we wanted a refill of our tea pots or anything else. I would strongly suggest if you're looking for afternoon tea not to book it at this hotel. Unless you like to be disappointed. Very disappointing end to what had been a lovely holiday. We had also had dinner at the hotel prior to the afternoon tea and once again there was quite a long wait for the food to be served. We asked for the bar menu as we didn't want to have wine but this never materialised. When I asked if any of the desserts were gluten free I was told they were not so I got the bill and we left.

I recently stayed at Hotel Albatroz & given the excellent reviews, was looking forward to it. However the hotel was very disappointing. I’ve stayed in many 5 star hotels worldwide & I do not believe this hotel is 5 stars. I stayed in room #211 and to access the shower, we had to climb over the toilet to access the back of the bath to get to the shower at the front of the bath. In addition to navigating the toilet to get into the bath to access the shower, the roof was sloping into the bath making the space even more confined. There were no handles to hold which made it very dangerous. We asked to move rooms explaining that the shower was very unsatisfactory but reception were unable to assist as the hotel was fully booked!! They offered nothing to address our concerns which for a so called 5 star hotel is not satisfactory!

We stayed for 11 nights in room 98, a ground floor room opening onto the swimming pool. It had a bath with a powerful shower and good temperature. The bed was enormous and comfortable, and the air conditioning was very good. I think there are only two ground floor rooms, 98 and 96. 96 next to us, has a walk in shower and no bath. The staff were very friendly and efficient, but a stand out waitress was Catia: always smiling and went the extra mile to enrich our experience and all other guests. We had dinner in the restaurant 3 times. We got the impression, the menu did not change and although good quality, it was quite expensive compared to the local restaurants. We had lunch on the bar terrace every day bar one and it was excellent with many choices. We had a very enjoyable stay and would come again. One small quibble was that waiter service around the pool was erratic. Many times I had to go to the bar to order drinks. The waiters did not patrol the pool area as often as we would have liked. Also, used glasses were not cleared away in a timely manner. One bit of excitement, The couple in room 96 next to ours were well known actors. We sat on loungers next to them for 7 days along with another UK couple. Sadly, although my wife thought she recognised the lady next door she thought she may have been a dancer, not a film and TV star. We had long conversations about restaurants and where to go in Cascais. It was only after they had left, the other couple told us who the actors were. And no, I am not going to tell you who they are. At one point my wife asked the husband if she could ask a question about his wife. Looking back, he looked a bit perturbed. Was she going to ask about the actors the wife had worked with, ask for a selfie, quiz her on Hollywood or TV programs she had been in? But no, my wife asked him if his wife had ever been a dancer? The look on his face was of relief. She doesn't know who we are; we can just have a normal relationship. (His wife did ballet at school). Great stay, thank you Hotel Albatroz.

Arrived greeted by knowledgeable friendly staff. Made to feel at ease instantly. Room is beautiful as is the unusual decor in the hotel. Had dinner in the restaurant first night. Excellent food and service including bar staff. Higher end spend but it is in five star hotel. Our table overlooked part of the beach.

We enjoyed a great six day stay at the hotel and were particularly impressed with: - the waiting, dining and bar staff - very friendly and professional - the view from our balcony - housekeeping were excellent - the food - breakfast was very good and had we had lovely egg dishes made to order and it is nice to have breakfast on the terrace overlooking the beach - lunch had one of the best selections I have seen with a great mix of lighter and heavier dishes (if you want a table outside, book at breakfast) - and dinner was of a very good standard - the drink, reasonable prices and good cocktails - the ideal location This would have been a five star review apart from the problem noted by other reviewers of sunbed availability. On two of the six days we were there we could not get a sunbed in the afternoon. I asked reception if they could provide more sunbeds (there was room) - they said they would check but nothing happened. The usual problem of people leaving their towel/belongings for long periods....and even if no belongings had been left - only hotel towels - staff did not remove these.... Other more minor issues: - nearly all the staff were great - but reception was variable and at times not helpful (suggesting restaurants that were closed) - bathroom - as many people have stated - the bath/shower is very old fashioned and it is difficult to get in and out of the bathtub - not keen on allowing cigar smoking when people are eating outdoors - sometimes there was noise from the public beach but there is nothing the hotel can do about this and it did not bother us too much However, despite these issues it was a great stay and we would thoroughly recommend the hotel, particularly if you use it as a base to explore the surrounding area.
