The Bealey Quarter Reviews

We were running late and were going to miss the advertised check-in time, so I called ahead to find out what to do. Although no-one answered the phone, we were informed by the automated answerphone that if you missed check-in, they would leave your keys to your room in a lock-box outside reception. This is a major plus for travellers as it can be so hard to execute your travel plans to schedule! The facilities in The Lodge, where we were staying were mostly communal and hostel-like - people seemed to hang around in hallways. For some this could be a great way to socialise or otherwise intimidating. These communal areas were slightly untidy and unclean. We stayed in a room with en-suite facilities. It was very basic with two large twin beds pushed together to make a King-sized bed. The shower temperature fluctuated massively but we had a comfortable stay. We did not eat on-site as we found it to be overpriced but we did notice that there was a wide range of social events such as a pub quiz which would have been super fun if we had more time!

Great facilities and cleanliness. Its a 15mn walk to the central city.

Great cozy room. Spacious ensuite. Love the body length mirrors. Just wish I had a window I could open rather than a sliding door that looks out to the street! and the Cleaners should come a little later in the day for those who like a sleep in.

Not too impressed, got put in the wrong room when I specifically booked the room for the balcony. The guy at the front was new which I understand but no one did anything to help. Walls are thin as anything could hear everyone’s conversation and 5 different people snore. Will never be back.

It's good, but the shared bathroom is a bit disappointing. It was good though The kitchen is a bit small, so it might be better to eat early or late. If you have a rental car, the location won't be a problem. You can leave the city on foot.

The location of the hotel is very good. There are supermarkets and restaurants nearby. Parking is also convenient. The lady at the front desk is very friendly. It is a hotel worth recommending.

The public toilet and shower area are very clean, maybe because of the off-season, they are quite quiet.

Clean, friendly and nice

We really enjoyed our stay. Check in and out were simple and quick and not too much noise around at night (not even really from the street). Loved the heat pump! We look forward to having Bealey Quarter as our regular accommodation when staying in Christchurch.

The property is very noisy, avoid at all cost. Rooms are close to the restaurant that normally host large groups so expect a disturbed sleep, if not a sleepless night. Part of the complex is also a backpackers building, and a lot of noise coming from this area too. So if you are after a restful stay, avoid this property.

Big complex, popular with backpackers. I stayed at both dormitory and in a shared room. the room is good with good amenities. can't recommend the dormitory. Small 8 bedroom with poor ventilation. Noisy, unstable bunk beds, that sway/move when other person moves. Positive large Towel included. Communal kitchen ok, bathrooms clean.

Room was fine, 2 king beds, hotel has a central courtyard that we used for evening drinks. Lovely setting. One problem was that the restaurant didn't do the continental breakfast each day, also staff were not that knowledgeable. Nice location

Disappointing meal in many ways. Food delivered didn't match what was written on the menu, and in fact when questioned about it, we were told they didn't have the items! Food undercooked (medium rare steak was more raw than cooked, not quite blue), I advised I had an allergy to fresh tomatoes which they did remember but then my meal came out the half the items missing - no offer of replacement sauce, and not sure why some of the other items were missing. Quantity of food was good although I'm guessing they are experiencing a potato shortage by the fries portion. Wait staff were wonderful which bought this review up to a 3, and when asked for the sauce, custard, etc they did their best to try and fix it, generally with another item. Considering above the food was expensive for what it was. Atmosphere was warm and friendly.
