I arrived at 4.30pm to find the place all locked up. There was a note stuck on the window with a contact number to call to get the duty manager, and another note pointing ”out of hours” arrivals to a security box. There was no answer on the number. Fortunately another couple turned up, and they had been sent a code for the box, to get their key. |The lady was rightly dubious but opened the box to get their key and then took my name, and gave me my key, so fair play to her for being security continuous. I did not receive any correspondence from the hotel with my code, or even any contact prior to my arrival to find out my ETA. The whole complex was deserted, which for mid december, I do not understand. My room was probably the furthest away from everything, and for the whole night I was there, there was noone else in my block. I went to the pool, and sat in the spa for the 5 minutes that it is allowed to run for - there is a note saying it must not be run again for another 30 minutes (I think) after it has done its 5 minutes. Eventually another couple came along and sat in the spa, so it got swtiched on too early I would guess... Forgive my sarcasm here, but that makes no logical sence, One thing I forgot to mention was that due to me arriving ”out of hours”, although I cannot understand how 4.20 is out of hours at a big hotel and golf complex, there was NO food anywhere, I had to leave, and drive 20 minutes back to the previous town. The internet was sketchy, so I hate to think what it would be like if there was more than 3 people staying at the hotel. My tv didn't work, I discovered that the aerial was not plugged in, and then I had to manually retune it to get it to work. I left very early the next morning to get a ferry to KI, and there were no more cars in the carpark than then I had arrived (i.e none). The shower water ran brown for a few minutes, so I guess that no one had been in my room for a while. This was probably the weirdest hotel stay that I have had. The place was quite literally deserted.

The hotel is in a good location, but the room smells a bit musty. Rooms that will not be occupied for a long time are reserved for orders from Ctrip. The restaurant is very good, the food and service are good, and the price is very reasonable. It is good to stay here when traveling to Kangaroo Island.

As we had booked the last ferry to return from KI to the mainland, this caravan park seemed to be a sensible choice for staying a night. I’ve read that they have a 24/7 check-in kiosk. They must have received many of late arrivals due to its location and must have a solid SOP in place for those customers. Big mistake! The day before arrival, I emailed to inform them of my late arrival. An email with the late arrival instructions was received in the next morning, the day of arrival. Nothing in the emailed seemed to be out of the ordinary. There was an attachment of after hours check-in procedure that I didn’t read until we reached the reception. As it turned out, the attached procedure asked for my mobile phone number for generating my boomgate code. Well, a Singapore mobile number was already given to them when booking the site a month ago. Couldn’t they have used that? If they had to use an Australia local number for such an important function, should I have been informed much earlier? In addition, the email mentioned that the ”reception is open until 9pm”. We arrived before 8:30pm yet the reception was already closed. On the door was pasted a note with a phone number to call when having trouble with the check-in kiosk. However, I didn’t have a working Australia SIM card. Luckily, another late check-in customer arrived and he was kind enough to lend me his phone to call the emergency number. Unfortunately it only went to a voicemail recording. I tried replying the email I received stating my awkward situation then but haven’t received a single reply to date. So in a cold dark night we were stuck outside the closed reception without our boomgate code to enter the powered site that we already paid for. At such desperate time, we received the help from one of the caravans’ owner who let us use her boomgate code to enter. In short, that was the worst caravan park experience we have had after having stayed in 10 during our 3 weeks holiday. If you’re planning a late arrival to this place, please don’t make the same mistake as I did. The other aspects of this place are positive enough though. A spacious area with few trees and not too many sites. Decent toilets, shower and a well-equipped camp kitchen with a space to sit down and enjoy the food. Didn’t know how to operate the stove so I used our portable one. BIG4 standard? Doubt so. The night was quiet but traffic noise started in the morning. Woke up and we were greeted by a magnificent view!

Very good location. It is only 3 minutes drive from Kangaroo Island Ferry Terminal. We arrived at 6 o'clock in the evening. The sign was found to be a separate two-bedroom chalet. The room was very satisfactory. The kitchen utensils were all complete. Very good one-stop travel experience.
