We've gone to the Mackinaw City/Mackinaw Island area for 5 of the last 6 years. We always try to go off-season, so we ended up at this HI Express in St. Ignace this year. First time at this location. We generally don't think much of the hotels in this part of Michigan. They are solely ”tourist” properties, and they seem to be poorly maintained by the hotel owners. Nevertheless they charge over-premium prices and should be doing better. Booked a lake-facing balcony room. On arrival however the hotel switched us to a ground floor ”pet friendly” room I travel with a certified service dog, NOT a pet. This is an ADA violation. Much of the room was filthy. Carpets worn and huge stains on the (from the ”unfriendly pets” previous??). The sofa smelled and couldn't be used. Bathroom was clean and water pressure and hot water adequate. Security lock on the door broken, and the exterior balcony door lock was faulty as well. HI Express breakfast was done very well, with all the proper items available and all the equipment working properly. Hotel would not address the issues with our room claiming they were ”fully booked”. We would not stay here again.

Great location! The beach, the staff, and amenities were good. The breakfast included was great, it includes a variety of things and served at the lakeside restaurant located on property. You could also dine at night on certain days but the dinner was not as up to par. I think keeping menus short and simple is great, but I thought the menu was very limited. I wished it featured more of the local foods.

The check-in woman could have been friendlier (she wasn't unfriendly, just not friendly). The best thing about the motel is that it is almost immediately after you turn right on US 2. The motel itself was clean, a bit worn perhaps, with a tiny (by 21st century standards) TV. Check out was easy, just drop your keys in a box. Would I stay here again? Sure, if I'm simply looking for a no-frills experience--a place to sleep and then move on.

We decided to use St. Ignace as a base for trips to Mackinac Island, Mackinaw City, and various spots in the U.P. We chose Cedar Hill based on other reviews and the location. The room was small. The AC was either freezing or warm; it froze up one day and we were left w no AC at all overnight. I understand many places have shortages with staff and housekeeping. If this were the case, I'm fine if the management let's us know. But, our beds were made only once on the second morning, and only after we inquired. Trash was taken out and we got new towels only after we asked. The breakfast was limited. On our second day there, our keys did not work. They gave us new ones at breakfast. Those didnt work. We walked down,and the front desk gave us new ones. We went back, and they still did not work. My husband called and asked to have someone please come up and fix it, and also open our door. The man came up, looked at it. At first he said the code was reading that our deadbolt was on, but we insisted no one was in the room. He then said that he thought the battery was dead. But, he had to go back, as he didn't have the tools to get us into our room! Over 20 more minutes passed until he came back and got us into our room. We were now delayed close to an hour, and missed an appointment we had made on Mackinac Island! I'm sure you get the point...we were disappointed in our stay. Luckily we were not in the rooms much, but bc of the AC, it was often uncomfortable and hard to sleep.

Really enjoyed a quick overnight trip to St. Ignace to visit Mackinac Island. Hotel was clean and offered a nice breakfast spread and evening firepit gathering. We had a lake view balcony and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise looking at the island. This hotel was totally full but did not seem ”busy”. It's a one minute drive to the Shepler's ferry to Mackinac island. The rooms are clean but somewhat dated - I'd say they are competitive with others in the St. Ignace & Mackinaw City area.

We have been going to this hotel since 2016 and it has just gone down hill!! We had the King bed, studio suite, lake view, hot tub room. First thing we notice was there was no chair for sitting in, as it states it will have. Which means you either sit on the bed to watch TV, which is not very comfortable for someone with back issues, or you take the chair without arms from the desk to sit in. When we asked at the front desk about it they said ”you must have the room that had a chair break”. We asked if they could bring one from another room and they said ”they didn't have any, they had one in the storage shed but the maintenance man needs to put it together”. We ended up bringing in a plastic chair from our patio area. Later, as we're trying to watch a movie, we hear a horrible noice through the wall for several minutes and then it got louder!! We called the front desk and Amanda (I believe was her name) said she'd be down, 20 minutes later she shows up and says ”that's terrible, I don't know what it would be” and then proceeded to say ”what do you want me to do about it?” Really, we're paying good money for this room and we'd like to be able to enjoy it and sleep that night. She said she didn't have any other rooms except the ones upstairs that have wet carpet! She was VERY RUDE and said she'd contact her manager. Well an hour later we don't hear back and the noise is still going on, so we go down to the front desk to see what they were willing to do and again she was very rude and said she notified the manager but hadn't heard back. When we told her that the noise we had in our room was unacceptable, she continued to be extremely rude to us. We told her we wanted to cancel our room for the next night (because we weren't going to stay someplace where we couldn't sleep for 2 nights) and she told us ”you can't do that, it's on the paper you signed”! We told her that we wanted to talk to the manager that night. We never heard from the manager and the next morning when we tried to talk with the manager she wasn't any better. Said she didn't know what we expected her to do. We said we wanted a room we could actually sleep in without a noise so loud we could hear our TV over it and kept us awake. She and the other lady behind the desk goes on to say ”we're booked all summer and never have a complaint.” That is very hard to believe because this noise was extremely loud and one of their own employees witnessed it! They were not willing to cancel & refund our money for the 2nd night and weren't willing to refund any of our money for the first night for the inconvenience. We weren't willing to forfeit our money, for them to just rent the room to someone else and make double the money on it! We were finally able to get them to switch our room for another room, if we would move all our things out by check out time and then come back later. We made a mistake booking this hotel. The service was horrible. The amenities are mediocre. There is no quality in this “Quality Inn”. And it gives this brand a bad name and reputation. Denise Horn, the GM is a hard-nosed, blow-hard person who does not care nor valued our business. Very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Did not even greet us when we checked in. We took a trip to The Great Lakes to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. This is one of our stops for one night as we planned to see all three of The Great Lakes. It’s a good thing it’s only for one night. I could not stand to stay there for more. I booked this hotel 10 days before and specially requested to be on the top floor close to the elevators because of physical limitations. Check in is 3 pm. We arrived at 3:15 pm. There were maybe half a dozen cars in the parking lot. Denise gave us probably the worst room in the whole place. The very end room, in the corner with no windows, on the ground floor (Room 122). Total opposite of what I requested! I pleaded with her to honor my request since we arrived early and I know for a fact that hotels don’t assign rooms until you check in. It’s first come, first served. I even explained the reason for our trip but she didn’t care. She refused and gave the excuse that I booked with a third party (*******), and they are fully booked for the night, although majority of the guests have not arrived. She could have easily put us on the top floor. I usually forgive and overlook the flaws of hotel rooms, but since this one started off bad, I’ve noticed everything wrong with the place because she already put us in a bad mood and basically ruined our day. I can tolerate an imperfect room or property, but not staff bad service and attitude. The key cards did not work. Had to walk back uphill for her to properly program them. The room was dark and unclean. It is outdated. The carpet is nasty because when you step outside of the porch (hence, the ground floor), the ground is littered with ducks and seagulls poop to accidentally step on and bring inside. The room was smelly. There was a urine stain on the toilet seat. The HVAC unit is so old, it is hard to control. It looks like it’s from the 60’s and 70’s era. The porch sliding door is not safe. The lock is broke so they put a stick to prop it close and a chain lock. We felt unsafe in this room. The screen is also broken with screws missing. The hotel is set in the back, downhill from the front office and the breakfast room. So you‘ll have to walk uphill to get breakfast. It’s a good thing it’s not raining or snowing at the time. And if you are disabled or mobility challenged, it would be a difficult endeavor. And if you want to drive up there, there are no places to park except for a couple of spots for checking in. We vacation and travel a lot, staying in many different brands of hotels. Their breakfast is one of the worst we’ve had. Did not have much choices. Very few, not so fresh items. The milk is o
