Bordering the Rhine River, Lindt Chocolate Museum and Cologne’s city center, the NH Köln Altstadt hotel, formerly known as NH Köln City, is a feast for all of the business or leisure traveler’s senses. Located in the heart of the energetic Rheinauhafen business district, the hotel’s prime location allows visitors to walk all over the Old Town to top local sites including Cologne Cathedral, Kölner Philharmonie, the Roman-German Museum and Köln Messe exhibition center. A short walk to several tram centers including Severinstrasse, Ubierring and Köln Heumarkt stations link travelers to the greater Cologne area. Built in 2002, the NH Köln Altstadt has 204 spacious, plush, modern rooms, many with views of the Rhine or Cologne Cathedral. Guests can seek additional refreshment in the ample spa facility, which includes a sauna, steam bath and relaxation room. For dining options, enjoy the breakfast buffet or a meal at Mediterraneo Restaurant, featuring Italian, French and Spanish cuisine. Guests can converse and unwind on one of our two terraces: an intimate courtyard or another adjacent to the stylish Unico Bar. The hotel also offers eight meeting spaces and can host events for up to 220 people or 180 wedding reception guests.

There was no air conditioning (AC) even though the hotel advertised as having it. Their excuses was that it was too cool at night to operate the AC for the hotel even though it was actually very warm outside. Translation: the entire hotel is either on heat or AC, they are too frugal to allow use of the advertised AC, or their system is outdated and does not actually work properly. Very hot and stuff room. The odd thing was is that the hotel lobby seemed to have AC. The hallways and room were uncomfortably hot. Upon checking in there was only a little bit of toilet paper was left on the roll. Fortunately there was an extra roll provided. Only a few sheets of Kleenex were in the box. Also, the hand soap dispenser was nearly empty. It seems not much care is given to the rooms between guests. On our last day the housekeeper knocks on the door early in the morning even tough the “do not disturb” sign was hung on the door. It was a basic room with furnishings that included a desk, a small round table, 2 small nightstands, a desk chair, and one sitting chair. There was no usable refrigerator, just a mini bar. The was only one suitcase rack situated in the closet. We had to use the sitting chair for our other suitcase. The beds were not too comfortable. Also the pillow case did not completely cover the pillow, so your head might rest upon the exposed portion of the pillow where the lasts hundreds of guest placed their heads. Bathroom was OK but a bit smelly. The shower had low water pressure. Some water will leak out under the shower door to the floor. Stepping over the high tub with a slippery shower floor is a bit precarious. Internet speed was 3.81 Mbps in both upload and download, with 8 ms latency. The location is near the chocolate museum and a good pizza and pasta restaurant is nearby. The cathedral is less than a mile away. At almost 400 euros a night, it was very expensive for a poor experience. Perhaps HN stands for “Not Happy.”

The best hotel in Germany. The western restaurant on the second floor is especially amazing. You need to make reservations in advance at night. The details of the service are great. The hotel is the official designated accommodation hotel for the European Cup. I was lucky enough to see the England and Belgium players.

The check-in could be more swift and in a slightly more polite tone. The smallest room has plenty of space for one night, the bathroom could be more functional with more storage options, the shower is amazing. The unpleasant surprise came the next morning when breakfast was ”delivered”, which is to be taken literally as it handed out in a cartonage box. Inside were two sandwiches (ham and salami), one hard-boiled egg and fruits. If that's not to your taste - tough luck! Do not get me wrong: I can live with terrible breakfast, I am okay to (over)pay for good/halfway acceptable breakfast, but for 14€ I expect a level of choice that goes beyond vegan, vegetarian or normal. If you hope for that to have changed in the future, I also have to disappoint you: The receptionist was well-aware of the fact that this offer is a rip-off.

We made a reservation for this hotel somewhere in April but due to corona we where not allowed to visit Köln. So we rebooked this hotel for August (instead of 3 nights now 2 nights, but we allready paid it for three nights). The communication via email is great!! Quick response. A couple of days in front of our arrival we received an email about the breakfast (which was included). The did not serve a regular breakfast due to corona but instead of this coffee and tea and a croisoint was provided for free in the bar. About our room we had a upgrade and the room was big. And we had a balcony 😍😍. But to be honoust for a 4 star hotel we missed some things. Booking promised us slippers, bathrope etc. But it wasn’t there. No bath only. Shower. No fridge.... What i said. Breakfast was a coffee and croisant served at the bar but we had to wait a while for this 😞. Also due to corona the rooms will not be cleaned. If you wants new coffee capsules, towels, etc, you have to ask at the reception. We asked for new coffee capsules en hot the answer that it was only offered as welcoming.......after saying it was mentioned in the elevator we got some new ones. By the wat the location of the hotel is great. And as last. The lady of the reception asked us to pay an amount of money for the change of rate for the room. Although it was some euro’s we allready payed enough. Normally this weekend we should have payed about 150 euro......we payed 285 euro’s. So why should we pay the difference rate of the room. I give this hotel 3 out of five but it should have been 2,5. I don’t think i will visit this hotel again....

Location good, everything clean, rooms maintained and attractively furnished. It would be nice if you don't have to try to fail to connect your iPhone to the TV for 2 hours. Breakfast is rich and pleasant long, please don't come here every 2 minutes to clean, that's a little nervous. The reception is unfortunately over-required with the smallest problem (unfortunately, it would also be appropriate to believe the guest again and again when he reports where he booked something. He usually knows it better than any funny “system”). Otherwise, and yet a successful stay with improvement potential.

We had 5 rooms during Orgatec Exhibition. Hotel was new, employees were kind, breakfast was good and in general it was a clean hotel. It is not in city center but really easy to reach Rudofplatz or Heumarkt with 2 Tram Lines and it takes only 5 stops. Also there were some restaurant and supermarkets around for our needs. Therefore we enjoyed our stay in hotel. Only thing which was negative, you need to inform reception each morning for cleaning rooms. Otherwise it was not cleaned. (we are not informed about this during check-in so we learned that after first day) Despite we informed that for each day, second day of our stay 2/5 rooms are not cleaned. Except this, it was all well clean

We booked a last minute trip to Köln and booked a 2 double room. We had to pay €200,00 deposit in cash. There was no other way to pay cash. After we got the money we only get the money back when we don’t smoke in one the rooms. After we arrived we went straight to a rave party and came back to sleep 4hours and check out before 12:00. So we did everything as they asked but the receptionist said that we smoked in our room because they allegedly found ashes on the balcony of the window. We didn’t even openend a window and we ran out of cigarettes. I smoked the last one in front of their hotel. They took pictures of the balcony and showed some ashes. The picture could have been from any other room cause they all look each other. So we didn’t get our money back they called the police on us. Police says they can’t do anything about it and that we have to file a complaint. When we asked to see the previous pictures of the room from the previous guests they say they don’t check it every time. So how can they be sure it wasn’t someone’s else previously.

400e for 2 nights for 2 rooms is a crazy amount of money for an ibis Budget. Just paid 100e less for a Lovely house in Bruges! However, hotel prices in Koln were incredibly high family of 5 we had little choice . Did the job but certainly not worth that amount of money. It was clean, comfy beds and powerful showers as a positive. Let's be honest thank goodness it was at that price. Good location outside of the LEZ zone and a quick hop onto the tram 8 mins walk away.

Outstanding
GGuest UserThe Courtyard Marriott of Cologne was clean, beautiful and a great location. It was a short walk to the Central train Station and near all the sights of Cologne. I was only there for one night and did not get to experience the breakfast as we checked out before it was served, but they did provide me with a lunch box which included a ham and cheese sandwich, a banana and a water. There is coffee and boxed water 24 hours a day in the lobby. The beds were super comfortable and the temperature of the room was ideal, as we had control over the air conditioner, whereas other hotels we stayed in the same week, did not allow us control and we were very warm. The room we had was a nice size and the view was of the empty courtyard which was extrememly quiet and definitely highly desirable. Front staff upon checking in, was not friendly, however after check in everyone else we came in contact with was very friendly. I didn't get the ladies name at the front desk, but she definitely didn't give us a positive welcome. Glad her shift ended and everyone else we dealt with, and passed was extremely friendly and that is what the experience should be like.
GGradoThe Hotel shows five stars! The room had no wifi whatsoever, although they showed three different wifi lans. Attempts to bridge this gap with mobile hotspots were not helpful. Noises from other rooms were audible, which means a bad noise insulation. Worst of all was that there was first only boiling hot water in the bathroom. This was due to the fact that all cold water supplies were closed. Still after opening them ourselves, one of the two lavatories cold water regulator was not functional. Shocking was that the shower was switching from regulated 38 degrees Celsius to suddenly boiling hot water and then to ice cold water. This made showering an unpleasant not to say dangerous encounter! You judge if this Hotel deserves the five star rating. Our attempt to communicate the shortcomings was prompted with the statement that the maintenance technicians had left! (???)
GGuest UserThe (non-upgraded) room is relatively spacious, well designed and quiet. I'm glad I did not accept a higher cost upgrade option. It was great for a 4-day stay. There's a separate area for clothing and storage, and a small refrigerator. There was a wall of windows, good light and effective blackout curtains. The in-room coffee service is nice - I didn't find this in my other hotels. The breakfast buffet is worth the price, especially considering the quality, and that a single cup of coffee elsewhere can easily be 5 Euros. It's not a train station hotel (one mile away from the HBF and the Dom), but this hotel is in a very nice area, and is convenient to a great many dining and entertainment options for a Cologne tourist. It's not horrible to take the train here (with one connection) if you are reasonably mobile. Public transit options are many once you figure them out. The USB charging outlets are helpful -- and I did not find these in any other of my hotels. Overall, this chain is a significant step up from the likes of Ibis and Motel One. This hotel is very much worth the reasonable premium it charges. Desk staff was very friendly and helpful throughout my visit. I would happily return to this property.
GGuest UserJust an absolute great experience staying there easy to find from central station. The staff are very welcome in. Everything we requested before we arrived. Was there just the overall great day and a great great location. Definitely want to stay there again. Would recommend this to anybody.
GGuest UserThe location was perfect, right next to the train station. I recommend going there for breakfast to save about 10 euros a day. The rooms were very old fashioned, the walls had dark marks on them and the carpet was one which you would not want to walk barefoot on. I felt a bit concerned for my privacy when using the shower as there is a massive window in the bathroom with no blinds or curtains to cover it. The window might not be completely transparent but I'd still like something extra for peace of mind. It was a bit strange to be given two single duvets for a double bed and a little annoying to find that every evening I had to make it again, rather than the housekeeping staff just either leaving it as it was or making it themselves. Unfortunately when I arrived at the hotel an hour and a bit before check in time, they apparently had a lack of storage space for bags so I was lucky to only have to take a backpack around Cologne, otherwise it could have been very challenging. I booked the hotel expecting 4 star standards but in reality it was decidedly average. I personally wouldn't stay here again but if you are looking for a reasonably priced centrally located hotel in Cologne you can't go too wrong.
Jjerry=chenI saw that there is a Wyndham five-star hotel in Beijing before, so I thought it was good and booked it. The location is really good, just next to Cologne Station Square, just across the road. The service of the front desk girl is also very good and very enthusiastic. The room is pitifully small, and the bed is almost impossible to turn over. The hotel has been decorated for a long time, and the hygiene is average but not dirty. It may be because of the old facilities. The elevator is very small, and the elevator can only accommodate one person with a slightly larger suitcase. The hotel is next to the Cologne Cathedral, and next to the commercial area, which is convenient for shopping and dining. I didn't pay attention to not choosing breakfast when booking the room, so I bought it separately later. The breakfast category is okay.
TThành Trung TrầnHygien, room, bed, quietness everything was great except that I got this problem with the receptionists. So I did explain to all the receptionist (that I saw-because I understand they work in shifts) that I lost 2 luggages due to the airline's mistake and airline will send them to this hostel where I would be staying (for 1 night only). I explained that if someone sent luggages here, please tell me asap because I needed to catch a train to Amsterdam the nextday noon. Imagine 35kg of personal belongs just dissapeared, I didnt have toothbrush, clean clothings.... I reminded them everything 3-4 hours when I saw a receptionist. After almost 27 hours of waiting in worry (which made me cannot enjoy the city), I talked to one receptionist to please check 1 more time becauze the airlines mailed me that they did send to the hostel at 4:30pm in the day I checked-in hostel, (only 4-5 hours after my flight time), she let me go it the luggage room and my luggages were there the whole time! So I waited in pain for 22 hours for nothing. I think it would be a bit obvious when 1 guy in delivery company uniform went in with 2 luggages and said ”this is from one of your customer.” But the receptionist just forgot it quickly and didnt tell me. I had to change a lot of my plan and I was feeling terible and stressful with the waiting and fear of lost luggages.
Beside that, the condition of rooms, facilities, warm water, sound proof windows were great.
GGuest UserThis is not an ideal hotel at all. I would not give it anymore than a poor rating. The outer front of the hotel is awful and actually looks like it's closed. Very uninviting! On walking in, I was ”met” (not greeted) by a female member of staff who was OK (she did offer some conversation).... but not the most welcoming of people. I was kept waiting initially while she fetched someone else. In the meantime, I filled in some forms and a rather grumpy and disheveled looking person arrived. He mentioned I had to pay a fee for something but it wasn''t really clear what it was for. I reluctantly paid as it was only 4 euros and I didn't really understand German - had it been anymore, I would might have been more inclined to argue. The room (I was in 107) was frankly reminiscent of something from the Bates Motel. Very old furniture. The room was hot (I had to open the window) and although there was a TV, adequate WIFI, cleans towels etc - the standard was just frankly horrendous. I saw a pube on the wall in the bathroom! For this next part (I take partial responsibility as I WAS warned) but after 10 there is no reception which means you have to take your two keys with you. Now I stupidly assumed it was because the front door would be locked after 10. The real reason is because the hotel room door itself locks behind you. I walked out of the hotel room as I went to see if I could find someone to lend me a fan and the door locked behind me. Without anyone in reception, I was stranded late at night in the corridor. I had to physically climb out of the window and LUCKILY I had left my own open due to the hot weather.... otherwise I don't know what I would have done. I did NOT have the breakfast. It was included in the price but frankly everything seemed so sub-standard that I didn't want to risk it. Honestly, I know you get what you pay for but this wasn't even worth that and I paid approximately £50.
JjazpopsThe hotel is an easy walk (just a few minutes) from the railway station. It is about two minutes walk to the cathedral which you can see (and hear) from the hotel: the bells chime quite loudly at about 08:00 am and other times. Rooms are a decent size and the beds are very comfortable. It is clean and in the room there is a safe, tv, bathroom with a shower (that oddly has no shower curtain or screen - the floor gets quite wet). Breakfast is good and includes the normal range of hot and cold foods from croissants, toast, bacon, egg, sausage, buns, cereals, hams, salamis, cheeses, coffee, tea, hot water and some really very nice fruit juices (some of the nicest I have tasted in a hotel). The staff in the dining area were really pleasant and friendly. The reception staff were a little more varied but polite and efficient enough. Outside the hotel doesn't look that much but it is generally pleasant and a great base inside. Next door are some convenience store types of shops and a kebab house that I tried and it was exactly the same as back home. McDonalds is just across the road, if that is your thing. We walked to all of the Christmas markets (where we did most of our eating) and around the city centre and down to the Rhine. All are in easy walking distance. There is a bag room where you can leave your bags upon checkout and come back for them later. The security of that was a little lax as people just walked in from the street and took their bags. I went to the reception and told them I was taking mine and the lady looked as if to say, ”ok fine.” No checks. There is also little checking of people walking in from the street and just going upstairs but the doors on the rooms were pretty secure. The lighting is not great in the room and the lights around the hotel are seemingly hanging from their connections. Overall it was a great base from which to explore the city and get to and from. good night's sleep - despite the bells and a good breakfast. I would stay again for a short break in the city.
FFlawedI stayed here for 4 nights while attending an International Expo nearby. I chose it due to ts excellent location to the old town square (5 mins walk) and nearby transit options. Check in was painful and laborious having to give all same information again despite booking online and handed an old fashioned key with a giant key ring (a door knob) The gothic decor is initially quite charming with darkened wood and portraits of dead people everywhere. The single room was cramped, tired and dated and boiling hot. With no air conditioning or the ability to open the window more than an inch I was left to roast away while trying to sleep. No sleep was managed. PIllows are thin, mattress is thin, uncomfortable bed. Shower is rubbish and a curtain so short its impossible to not cover the floor in water. No glass in room so had to get one from reception. Breakfast is ok, fairly basic cold options - meat, cheese, bread, boiled egg, cereal and juices. Dining room has some appeal and was tidy with tables cleared quickly. The main advantage of this hotel is the location, there is nothing else.
