Hotel in a small town near Cologne is in Freshan. Go from Cologne for about 40 minutes. To the hotel, too, go decent from the stop, as it is not in the center of Frechen, but on the outskirts. Nearby - no shops or cafes. The hotel itself is extremely modest, well just ascetic. What rooms there!! Not that there is nothing extra, and there is not even the most necessary - a mini-fridge, for example, and after all it is needed, especially in the summer! The room itself - super tiny, metres 8 maximum, one person just nowhere to turn, I'm already silent about two! The suitcase put nowhere! But what we just shaken is the shower cabin right in the room! The toilet is separate, and the shower is fitted just in the middle of the room, and the entrance to the shower immediately from the room, that is, to go there and go out there it is necessary already without clothes! The door there is glass, to change there just nowhere, there is no place even towel to hang! I have not seen such an uncomfortable decision anywhere! If you are not a couple, but just friends or colleagues, it is impossible! You can take a shower only if your friend/collection goes out of the room at all and will wait in the corridor. The washing machine is in the room, just a step from the bed. Breakfast is worth 8 euros per person and simply no - neither eggs, nor omlet, nothing hot. Just tea-coffee, a modest cut of one kind of cheese and sausage, yoghurt and milk with chips. All.

The hotel is quite central in Cologne. It also has probably given the possibility to breakfast directly in the hotel the reservation. However, already at the arrival, this was shown at the reception before and after me, there were probably noise differences between the bookings of the arrival guests and the understanding that only the German-speaking lady had at the reception. My colleague has clearly ordered breakfast with, but he had to call it loudly next morning. After a long hard journey we had a pleasant enough checkin, but after having paid a lot extra for booking first class rooms, we were told that the first class lounge was closed. I asked what was the point in paying sky much more for first class rooms, and I was told the rooms have coffee machines. For the price difference I could have gone and bought coffee machines, but frankly I am not interested in a coffee machine, I paid for the rooms so we could use the lounge, so I felt ripped off. My room was boiling hot, and the air conditioning does not work. They sent someone to the room, but they could not get is below 26 degrees. They changed my room to a much smaller one, but it was a bit cooler. I came back to my room having left the aircon on all day and all evening. It was still very warm. I chose this hotel as it is described as air conditioned. It is not air conditioned at all. I could not sleep, it was too warm. I called reception and they brought me a fan. I am so disappointed to have not had what I expected, and most annoyingly the room was described as air conditioned when all it really has is a noisy fan. I should ask for partial refund for our two rooms, they were not worth the money. Then, the service at the bar was terrible. We ordered a round of drinks, it took more than half an hour to bring three beers. Not busy, just really slow.

The location is good, near cologne main train station and close to the river. it's very convenient. Rooms are big enough, but gyms kind of small. Hotel has is very big and like a shopping mall. I enjoyed my stay. Breakfast also good.

I have stayed in mercure hotels in over 5 countries and many cities. They are the best. Beds were comfortable and huge rooms. Great service. Location was great with many great local restaurants nearby. Just next to the metro. Super stay! Danke Schone!

The hotel is located beside the train station. There are many restaurants nearby and the cathedral is not too far away. The staffs were a little weird. They tried to be funny but maybe something was lost in translation and made us feeling uncomfortable. One of the staffs didn’t understand our question in English, but instead of trying to understand our question, she insisted her answer which left us more confused. Another staff completely ignored us when we were trying to talk to him because he was “busy” doing something else behind the desk although he made a lot of uncomfortable jokes at the beginning.

The hotel is an easy walk (just a few minutes) from the railway station. It is about two minutes walk to the cathedral which you can see (and hear) from the hotel: the bells chime quite loudly at about 08:00 am and other times. Rooms are a decent size and the beds are very comfortable. It is clean and in the room there is a safe, tv, bathroom with a shower (that oddly has no shower curtain or screen - the floor gets quite wet). Breakfast is good and includes the normal range of hot and cold foods from croissants, toast, bacon, egg, sausage, buns, cereals, hams, salamis, cheeses, coffee, tea, hot water and some really very nice fruit juices (some of the nicest I have tasted in a hotel). The staff in the dining area were really pleasant and friendly. The reception staff were a little more varied but polite and efficient enough. Outside the hotel doesn't look that much but it is generally pleasant and a great base inside. Next door are some convenience store types of shops and a kebab house that I tried and it was exactly the same as back home. McDonalds is just across the road, if that is your thing. We walked to all of the Christmas markets (where we did most of our eating) and around the city centre and down to the Rhine. All are in easy walking distance. There is a bag room where you can leave your bags upon checkout and come back for them later. The security of that was a little lax as people just walked in from the street and took their bags. I went to the reception and told them I was taking mine and the lady looked as if to say, ”ok fine.” No checks. There is also little checking of people walking in from the street and just going upstairs but the doors on the rooms were pretty secure. The lighting is not great in the room and the lights around the hotel are seemingly hanging from their connections. Overall it was a great base from which to explore the city and get to and from. good night's sleep - despite the bells and a good breakfast. I would stay again for a short break in the city.
