Red Roof Inn & Suites Commerce - Athens

I stayed at this location on and off 2 months never had a problem till this last stay !! Left cause we were out of money for room, came back 3 days later to get a room was told we were on the DNR list cause we left our room dirty,I never left a room as they are saying I left it in,plus saying the room smells like a dog thought they are a pet friendly place and if I left my room dirty ain’t that why they got house cleaning?? We got the same room 2 times the first time the bath room was nasty looked like it hadn’t been mopped in like a year there was dust around vents and we also saw a few bugs behind frig.We also had to ask for broom to sweep our room was not mopped the whole time we were there.even had to ask for toilet brush to clean toilet. I was told the owners were money hungry!! I gave them over 5 thousand dollars in 2 months.we never complained cause we were grateful to have a roof over our heads. I even made a phone call to manager and got yelled at and hung up on to me that’s not how you run a business. I will stay on their DNR list forever but if that’s how they run a hotel I don’t want to stay at it anymore anyway. So beware of this private owned Red Roof Inn.

I should have checked Tripadisor before checking in to this place. It was the cheapest place around for an overnight, and was worth no more than ten bucks a night. The bedsheets were clean and so was the trash can; nothing else was. The bed spreads has what looked like melted plastic on them. The light-blocking curtain over the window was threadbare and looked like someone had scraped the inner liner off the curtain. There were three cockroaches I saw when I turned on the light by the mirror for my nocturnal call. The wall by the toilet had smears on it that looked like someone had smushed a roach. We were about 100 yards from I-85, and it sounded like we were about 100 feet from NASCAR Quaker State 400 races. We were exhausted and managed to sleep well. Check-in -- Check in was next door at the Howard Johnson, also a part of the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts. I am surprised that the Wyndham chain allows its name to be attached to either of these places. They look like whoever the franchisee is that owns them is milking them for all the funds that can be found and killing this cash cow by not reinvesting some of the revenue in upkeep. I would not recommend this place to anyone and am surprised the city has not closed it down. Needless to say, my wife and I stayed only one night here and found accommodations in Athens for the other five nights we were in the area.

Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Commerce

I selected the Days Inn & Suites in Commerce for an overnight stay while traveling based on the outward appearance of the hotel in the photograph (it looked modern) and the mostly positive reviews. What I found was that the hotel obviously had had an exterior face lift fairly recently so that it looks fairly new from the outside. This is a 2-story hotel with inside entrances (another reason I selected it) but it has no elevator, only stairs! My room was on the second floor. The room left a lot to be desired - thin carpet, that looked like it hadn't been vacuumed recently, a very squeaky floor, constant, loud highway noise, hard mattress, loose, hard to operate faucet handle in the shower/bath, barely warm shower water that started to cool down before the end of my shower, and aged furniture that looked like it was from the 1970's. On a positive note, the bathtub, toilet, and lavatory were very clean, and there were 100's of stations available on the TV. Breakfast was atrocious. I would have had the scrambled eggs and sausage but there was standing water around the eggs and the sausages were a pale, grey color - neither looked appetizing. The grits were very good looking so I filled a bowl, but when I put the first spoonful of grits in my mouth I had to spit them out. It wasn't the taste but the texture - it was as if someone had replenished the grits by simply dumping uncooked grits into the container of cooked grits, supposedly thinking they would cook that way. They didn't. It was like putting sand in your mouth. The biscuit was very good, as were the slices of raisin bread I toasted. For $104 plus tax you should get decent room and a decent breakfast. I will never stay at this hotel again.
