We reserved a King room on the reservation, and it was prepaid but, when we checked in, we were sent to a queen room (without any mention of that from the clerk that checked us in). We went back down to request the king room that we had on the reservation and she told us that there weren't any. So, at that point, it was a take it or leave it kind of deal. The hotel proactively communicated about a number of things (thansk for the reservation, don't forget to dine in our restaurant, etc), but when it came to a true issue fulfilling our booking there was no proactive communication at any phase (pre checkin, during check in, or even post check in). We found and complained to the manager the next morning he offered us a small discount and a small apology, and that was about it. So in that regard, the service wasn't great. The hotel itself was cute and nice enough and I'm sure they probably get 90% of their bookings right, but in this case I didn't love the service.

We had been to the Foundation restaurant before for lunch and drinks, but this the first time we stayed at the hotel. Accommodations were exceptional, as was the staff. The room was clean and comfortable and provided an overall excellent experience. It had a nice, "boutique" feel to it that definitely represented the vibe of being a former fire station, yet completely updated to current comfortable standards. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and found a dessert tray with a congratulations card upon our arrival to our room. Nice touch. We were able to get a breakfast package that was great and very reasonable. At night, we were easily able to walk a mile down Woodward Avenue to Comerica Park to enjoy a Tiger's night game. I highly recommend The Foundation Hotel the next time you visit Detroit. It is a unique experience.

We recently visited from Austin, TX and the Foundation Hotel was excellent. The restaurant was fantastic. Food was great, staff was great. The hotel itself is very cool and was the Detroit fire station at one time. I loved it and would go back for sure.

We held our annual conference at The Detroit Foundation and the accommodations and service were excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive and made sure all of our needs were met. The Apparatus Room is beautiful and the food is delicious. I especially loved the risotto. The rooms are spacious with historic character and modern amenities. The street noise was minimal and I had great sleeps each night of my stay. I would highly recommend The Detroit Foundation.

Everyone was helpful, friendly and responsive. We felt safe, would definitely return and recommend. After an unexpected extended stay due to a medical emergency, Jordan M. went over and above to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.

Would recommend apparatus room bar night but not brunch on a sunday morning. Food was cold and service is slow. Hotel is amazing to say at with amazing staff.

This hotel is a re-purposed historic fire station, and as such is perfectly located, and beautifully curated from a design perspective. It's not cheap - but it's worth it. Many interesting art elements as well, excellent food and outstanding service.
