The Devonian

From the ownership to the staff to the breakfast to the cleanliness of the rooms & the bathroom facilities there was nothing not to love about this place. It was five stars in every sense of the word and by far the most pleasant hotel experience I've ever had in my life.

The pros: the location is perfect for Douglas, the ferry terminal (15 minute walk away, mostly on the flat), and exploring the rest of the Isle of Man. Rooms were lovely, comfy bed, good bathroom size. (Room 18) Excellent selection for breakfast, all freshly cooked. Lots of variety. Staff very pleasant. Easy check in and we were able to leave our cases until the ferry departure on the last day. The cons: there is no lift. We were in room 18 which is at the very top of a five story building. The thighs hated me a few times! As a result, we didn't use the room as much as we normally do for quick freshen ups etc. Breakfast: although it tasted fantastic, as it was freshly cooked there was a wait. We factored in about 45 minutes for breakfast in the morning, and adapted our day accordingly. Despite the cons, it is still worth 5 stars.

A lovely Hotel, the owners and staff are very welcoming and helpful. The room we had was very clean, and the whole Hotel seemed to be clean and tidy. We had an excellent breakfast with lots of choice, and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We would certainly recommend the Devonian.

We stayed in the hotel for TT24, which was our first experience of the Devonian and have already booked again for TT25!!! The stairs were an issue for us, with my recent hip replacement and wifes artificial knees. Needless to say, this is the only negative I could advise other traveller's and the hotel can do nothing about this. This did not spoil our stay, but post this as informative fact. The room was tidy, quiet, clean and bed sheets were changed during our 10 stay. The shower was hot and room was attended everyday we were out. There is a kettle, hairdryer and TV. The breakfast was tasty, varied, plentiful and happy to accommodate my dining requests, as one morning I wanted to try a manx kipper, as well as full breakfast! The staff were always pleasant, helpful, happy and super efficient. They are a credit to Kevin & Gillian who run a fantastic venue, who are always friendly and chatty. I would highly recommend this hotel to other people!

Lovely hotel, Kevin the owner is so welcoming and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble! Extremely clean and comfy, and the breakfasts are amazing, huge menu choice. Highly recommend the Devonian. 🏆 Very central and walking distance to the seafront.

Lovely hotel, really comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great breakfast menu. A few yards from the sea front. Parking across the road. Didn’t want for anything. There are no lifts so if you have a problem with stairs let them know. They made sure I had a room on the lower floor. Will definitely stay there again.

Gillian and Kevin are hard working host they made our stay very memorable and even left our luggage in the room and gave us a room which was user friendly with me having an issues with mobility so thoughtful staff were very friendly and helpful the food was great would really recommend The Devonian to our friends to come and stay for a break you will enjoy just like us.

It was excellent as always , This was our fourth visit to The Devotion. Kevin cooks the most amazing breakfasts. The staff are so helpful. I had bottle of wine to drink in the room and used the plastic bathroom glass. the following day two glasses arrived. So nice to have a small fridge in the room. The rooms are so clean, bright, fresh and lovely. It is so central for traveling all round the Island, very easy to get the Bus or Horse Tram, with less than 5 minute walk . The Electric Tram or Steam Train is a 10 -15 minute walk. We have already booked for next time!
