This is a great value hotel. You pop across the car to spend what you want on breakfast in the health club. Ok some complained ÂŁ2 for 2 Weatabix steep but you can have avocado and poached egg on toast very reasonable. The rooms are fine, nothing wrong with any that we had, premium or standard. All clean. The service was great, friendly and helpful. Having to keep having the key cards reprogrammed is a pain but we just did it every time we came in. Location is a bit out but that makes it quiet and there is a Sainsburyâs, pharmacy and Copland just 10 mins walk away.

We arrived in Durham late afternoon after driving for hours from the Lakes district via Hadrian's wall in Hexham. We were greeted by the host William. After check-in we asked William for directions to Durham Cathedral. Unfortunately we got lost and couldn't get there. We got back to the B&B very tired and disappointed as we only had the date of arrival to visit the Cathedral. We were tired and told William that we will just rest up for our trip up north the next day. William wouldn't hear of it and offered to drive us to the Cathedral and even wait for us while we toured the Cathedral. We were embarrassed and did not want to trouble him but he insisted and took us in his car, acting as a tour guide he drove past many attractions and got us to the Cathedral. Once I knew the way, I asked if we could return to the B&B so I could drive us in our own car to the Cathedral and spend the evening around there. He recommended a few restaurants as we drove past them and took us back. We managed to drive back and attend evening song and then spent a lovely evening walking around. If it weren't for William, we would have just spent the evening in our room feeling sorry for our selves. Our room was at the top floor. As I was parking the car, my wife took a small suitcase in. An elderly woman insisted on carrying the bag upstairs and no matter how many times my wife tried, she insisted on taking it up. Breakfast was great. Although only street parking is available, William assured us that the area was safe and he was right. This is a family run B&B and William and his family could not be more hospitable, friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Moor End Guest House.

Beautiful location, I attended a friend's birthday party best service was received at the buffet restaurant in the evening and again in the morning by a younger blonde eastern European woman, she went so out of her way to help me both times, I wish I had asked her name. The buffet breakfast had everything you could possibly want, well worth the $17 cost.. I booked the Coleman Suite and it was beyond amazing, but the basic rooms some of my friends had seemed overpriced.. I should have used to pool, sauna and other amenities but there was no time with the party, I would recommend staying for at least 2 days next time. Wonderful stay, just too short.

We visited for the couples dining experience. Having never been to the hotel before, we werenât sure what to expect but were greeted with smiles and deception. Once checked in, we were directed to our room. It was a little bit of a rabbit warren to try and get to it, but we did find our room thanks to the good signage on the corridors. We had red wine with chocolates in our room as part of the package. The bed was comfortable and the shower and bath were lovely. We were eating in the Staples restaurant which you had to access by going outside. Thankfully it wasnât raining.. We were initially seated with a bench seating, but that was really high up so we asked to move and we were moved to a different table. The food was delicious and service good. Once we had paid for our food and drinks, we went through to the bar to have a couple of cocktails. Breakfast the next day was served in the same place. A buffet style breakfast and everything you could ask for. Main breakfast meals Were taken to order and brought straight to the table. We would definitely stay here again.

More like a club 18-30 experience.
The hotel was fantastic, food excellent and staff went way, way beyond. However, the main function of a hotel is to have somewhere to sleep. The hotel had two weddings on the night of my stay and between 12:45 and 14:30 I was unable to sleep for the screaming, laughing, partying that was going on throughout the corridors. I never heard any staff trying to resolve the situation, just plenty of noise.
I had to pay ÂŁ20 surcharge for my dogs to stay and they were not allowed In the restaurant - which is very reasonable, but have to say that they were better behaved that the other animals who were not required to pay any surcharge or not required to follow any basic behavioural rules.
On checkout, I was not even asked if I had a pleasant stay. I assume the staff did not want confirmation of their mismanagement.
If this is the sort of establishment used but Trip.com, then I can only say first impressions go a long way and I will stick to other hotel brokers in future.

GGuest UserGood value if you stay for 7 plus nights on a long stay rate. Was happy with the size and facilities in my Queen room, however it was very hot and the aircon didn't work. The hotel is set in different (linked)buildings and one of the buildings was noticeably hotter both times I've stayed there in April and May. Both times the hotel upgraded me to a room on the riverside which is much cooler (with working air con) and with a view of the river. The housekeeping staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Lots of choice for breakfast and buffet kept topped up. Really enjoyed my stay - both times. Great location too!
Recently stayed in Durham for work and stumbled across The Townhouse and am I so glad I did! Spectacular place, I stayed in The Jardin which was a very comfortable and stylish room (with a hot tub), after commenting about the room while enjoying a delicious breakfast I was told about some of the others and was lucky enough to be shown another room which had a massive round freestanding bath with a huge TV! Would 100% stay again, June was lovely on reception, made me feel instantly welcome and her enthusiasm was infectious.
GGuest UserI rate this place very highly. A very warm welcome as soon as we entered. The room was very comfortably decorated. The bathroom was lovely and the quality of the towels and bed linen was good. The bed and pillows were very comfortable - even for my husband! The breakfast was excellent and the service was friendly. There was nothing more you could want. They even had delicious homemade jam! A really great experience all round.it is possible to walk into Durham centre from here too
JJOCELYNCWas not my first choice but booked this hotel for my graduation at Durham University since all other hotels are fully booked. The hotel is relatively old but clean and has all the amenities needed (including an iron and the ironing board). Nice and friendly staff at the reception, who kindly assisted with the printing of some documents. Good location because it is within walking distance from the Durham Cathedral and the campus

GGuest UserThis is a great place to stay! The staff are very kind and helpful, the rooms are wonderful - lots of power points in useful places! - and the location is lovely, close to the railway station, a short walk into the centre and some beautiful riverside walks. Iâll definitely be back.
GGuest UserSpacious room, nice kitchenette and basic accommodation. The room was a little tired and smelled a bit musty, but very clean and I slept well. Check-in was straight forward enough at the bar and very nice bar staff member. Several buses can be caught very nearby and itâs around 10 minutes into town (ÂŁ2 single or ÂŁ4 day pass). I would stay again :)
