I have been coming to Durham for the last 4 years and have tried many of the hotels and this is by far my favourite. Anna, the hotel manager, is the most lovely, hard working and welcoming hotel manager I have ever come across and I feel like its coming to stay with family. On this last visit, I was accompanied by my father-in-law and Anna reserved a room for him on the ground floor with views over the Castle, with a walk in shower and was even at the hotel to welcome him when he arrived by taxi from the train station (I arrived later as I got stuck in traffic on the M1). For those who might be put off by the thought of walking up and down the hill from the guesthouse into the centre of town, dont' be! I recommend parking in the Prince Bishop car park which is less than a 5 minute drive from the hotel. It is a good value, large multi-storey car park with a lift that takes you up to the Shops level and puts you right in the heart of the old town!
