"It's still worth recommending."

"The hotel was really nice and well appointed. The service from reception right through to check out was excellent. The setting for breakfast was great topped off by the quality of the food served."

"Great place to stay at a reasonable price just outside of Durham which is an easy 5 minute drive away. The hotel is clean and comfortable with friendly helpful staff. There is a large free car park. The hotel is quiet at night."

"High quality, clean, quick and friendly check-in. No drama. A very solid hotel in Durham. Just don't try and walk from there to the railway station with a heavy case - there's a massive hill!"

"From entering the Hotel till check out it was a very pleasant experience. The standards are excellent, my room was so comfortable and the sport complex just fabulous."

"Durham's top choice, hands down. Excellent value for money."

"The room facilities are relatively old, but overall it is clean, especially the free parking is a great deal. The Italian restaurant in the hotel courtyard is highly recommended. Their pizza and seafood pasta taste great!"

"Hotel was lovely love the staff very friendly and service was very good love my room and amazing breakfast. Thanks to Anna for for your hospitality."

"We spend six glorious nights at 40 Winks Guest House to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we were instantly made to feel royally welcome. Our suite overlooking the river Wear and Durham Cathedral had been prepared and decorated in style with balloons, chocs etc. - see photo. Very comfortable spacious room, large bathroom with bath, stand alone shower and more than enough space for anyone. The manager George was particularly helpful with advice about the city, parking restrictions etc as well as being responsible for some wonderful breakfasts. 40 Winks will suit people who want a quiet, peaceful place to stay. Five suites and four other bedrooms give it a quite an exclusive vibe and together with the dark, tasteful decoration in the staircase and landings it is quite sumptuous. Are there any downsides? I guess if you have mobility issues the stairs may not be easy as the property has no lift because it is a period townhouse and there is only on street parking - expensive outside but much cheaper in a side road. Listening to the soft bells of Durham Cathedral drifting across the river Wear as you wake or go to sleep however is completely relaxing. Highly recommended."
