There was no working phone number for this hotel. Red flag #1. Luckily, despite not being able to call and arrange a late check-in, management kindly and quickly accommodated us after we had driven for twelve hours.
At this price point, there were so many options that I'm sure would've been a million times better near Albany. Pictures did not capture the complete neglect of the property. And nothing could have prepared us for such filthy conditions. Walls covered in mysterious smears, splashes, stains in every inch of the space. Blankets with cigarette burns. Unswept, unmopped (a previous guest's disposable contacts were still on the floor of the bathroom). Smelly. Shower temp was inconsistent. AC worked--but looked like it had been through a war.
Housekeeping does come in your room to make the beds and replace towels. They have an unusual practice of taking the trash out of everyone's rooms and just setting it in front of their doors. That's the scene we came home to after being at a music festival all day: Trash bags in front of each hotel room like some weird evil Bizarro Santa had stopped by while we were gone. The bags were still there when we left the next morning.
It seemed most guests were long-term, down on their luck residents. We come from rural WV so are no strangers to living amongst a marginalized & underserved population so with all this and when the mobile food pantry came to deliver we weren't shook as somebody maybe coming from the suburbs would be.
