I understand why reviews of this hotel are so mixed. I first stayed in the newer part - a beautiful room on the 3rd floor, overlooking the beach. The room was clean, new and sparkling. There was a modern key card lock system, a fabulous bathroom and great views. Then, I was transferred to a room in the older section. Here, the bathroom had only a hand held shower head, the grout was discolored and the water didn't drain well, leaving me standing in a puddle while using the sink. The wood furniture and floor was scuffed and worn. The door lock used a key and was a bit flimsy. That said, it had a balcony overlooking the beach that offered the same great views. Avoid the first floor, as others have said, because people walk by on the way to breakfast and there is little privacy. El Nido beach is very busy, with walkers, vendors, even motorcycles, so be sure to get a higher floor.

The hostel staff is great, very accommodating, helpful, smiling and always greets us. This is the best hostel I have experienced so far. We stayed for 3 nights and the room is very clean. They always clean it every day and when we were gone doing a tour outside, our room was already clean with new towels. I love the nice design of the hotel as well as the breakfast, which is good. I enjoyed their unlimited pasta for dinner. Lastly, it's very near the town proper, within walking distance. We only have issues with the door lock, but the staff was very fast to fix it, which is excellent. Highly recommended!

This place went above and beyond for my family when we stayed at El Nido - The Funny Lion (June 26 - July 3). The staff are very friendly and professional. Their Customer service is 10/10. When you ask for something, they give it right away. The Manager was really kind and helpful especially to my 2 yr old daughter, Valerie. I am thankful and grateful for the team at El Nido - The Funny Lion.
There are a few suggestions for improvements I would like to add: Better drainage system for shower. It always seems like the water would go out of the shower especially when it’s raining outside. Also, an elevator would be great for the guest and especially for the staff when carrying heavy luggages. The wifi spotty and could also be improved especially inside the breakfast area. A better mosquito control on the outside near the pool/restaurant area would be nice too. The people on the backyard would burn their trashes and the smoke would fill the whole air of the hotel area and would not be healthy to breathe in (I wish they wouldn’t burn right next to the hotel). This is probably nitpicking but sometimes the music that plays at the bar/restaurant area is not family friendly and uses profanity. The rooms could use a bit of feng shui or something to make it feel more spacious. The room lighting could also be improved (it always seems a little dark even with all the lights turned on).

The rooms are advertised as 50 sq meters but they are not even close. Roughly half the size of that (see photos). The hotel is also old and noisy (Doors and windows are thin, we were awoken constantly from inside and outside the hotel). Our room had ants everywhere. We told the front desk, and they didn't care. Also the curtains fell off the wall and they put them back up but we couldn't open them. They said they'd come repair, but never did. Breakfast has a lovely view, but the food was a poor assortment of bad tasting items. Sadly the room has a lovely view of the mountains, but also has a view of trash (see photos). Finally, they have the most annoying policies, asking for deposits for a 2nd keycard to get into your room or for towels. That's right, they will give you the first key card without requiring a deposit. But if you are 2 people and want another, they are worried about you losing it and want a deposit. What happens if I lose the first one? No fee? Trying to explain anything to the front desk people is a waste of time. All nods and smiles but no comprehension. I even asked a supervisor to contact me so I could discuss their policies but of course no one reached out during all the 3 days I was there. On a positive note the place is in the perfect location and the staff is at least friendly. They offer offer free water on each floor. And they provided a free shuttle to and from the airport which was a nice touch. It is for these three things I upped them from one to two stars. You'd be better off staying across the street at their brand new sister property (same owner).

A real mixed bag here, the location is good and the rooms are large, clean, beds comfortable and the ac works well. The staff are friendly. Those are the positives. The food, breakfast in particular is atrocious for a hotel in this price range the restaurant staff idle about playing on their phones. The rooms were cleaned very late in the day on several occasions. The internet is weak from the rooms.Whilst the front desk staff are friendly they are pretty clueless and on wanting to escalate certain issues I am told that the management are based in Puerto Princessa. With good management and a complete overhaul of the menu and some internet boosters this could be a great hotel.

Good wstay overall, a few hiccups here and there but staff were doing their best to deliver quality services, no major issues. We stayed at the ocean view room which is fantastic to wake up with morning view or sunset view. They could have done better to make sure the room is ready at check in time.
Restaurant food was actually really tasty and well done, highly recommend to spend at least a lunch and dinner at the hotel. Airport transfer was also comfortable and staff didn’t mind stopping us at the locations on the way. I also booked island tours at the hotel which was made easy and quick, no hassle looking for one outside.

I have picked resort for its location and for experience to stay at the beach hut. And it was truly amazing time chilling on your veranda’s comfy chair surrounded by palm trees and the sound of crashing waves.
As for the overall experience, the resort is definitely not a 5* star resort. Amenities are pretty basic, over-washed beach towels, cheap cutlery, unexciting breakfast, the core infrastructure a bit rundown down, food is average and overpriced. Staff is friendly and ready to attend to every need of yours, but are the some time not there when you need them.
Had stayed at lagoon hut #14 and had a constant traffic of passing stuff or guests. So not so much privacy as you would think.
Caution. Only lagoon huts facing the beach (first row) get to use the beach sun loungers. The rest of the guests need ti use swimming pool lounges.

It's not a good idea to travel alone.
You pay a deposit first, and the necessary expenses are paid from it, so you don't have to pay anything during your stay. Also, you can generally be satisfied with the activities included in the hotel plan, so there is no need to make reservations. You can truly forget about the world.
Please note that transportation must be booked up to three days in advance, and activities must be booked up to the day before.
It seems that the marine plants and animals on the beach in front of the hotel are being carefully protected and nurtured, and there are signs of regeneration. Even now, there are various plants and animals in that narrow cove, which can be seen from the pier, and is a great place to snorkel or dive. It is very fun.
The air conditioning is so comfortable that you almost forget you're in the Philippines. There is also hot water in the bathroom.
Above all, the staff are very hardworking and I would like to hear about what kind of employee training they do.
The activities are also very interesting.
Meals change daily. I think it's delicious for the Philippines. (In general, the food is better in Thai-Vietnamese food. I have the ingredients, so why not?) I wanted to get back the frying pan and make the omelet myself. If I give you the recipe for dessert, will you make it for me? )g
The only thing is that the drainage system is weak, and there is an ammonia smell in the shower room. This is a common problem throughout the Philippines, and may be a fundamental problem with the piping system or construction technology.
With a stay at Pangulasian Island Resort in El Nido, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Pangulasian Island Dock and Observation Tower. This beach resort is 3.3 mi (5.4 km) from El Nido Main Beach and 0.6 mi (0.9 km) from Marimegmeg Beach.

The first words of the staff is “welcome to paradise” and we can only say it was truly experiencing paradise. From the first second at lounge arrival to the last second of departure there was an amazing, friendly and personalized customer care! The hotel environment , the room, the food, the complementary boat trips all was excellent and gave us an incredible experience to never forget and … to return back to☺️

The resort is in a great location with a small but quiet beach and a nice house reef outside. Beware that some units require walking up a lot of steps and the ones set away from the beach have a lot of mosquitoes around.
The staff are super friendly and nice although the service of the hotel could be more attentive i.e when lying on the beach you don’t get asked if you want drinks. Room cleaning was only done once in our 7 day stay and only because we asked for it. Towels are not automatically offered to beach goers all the time.
The restaurant is pretty slow with almost an hour for food to arrive sometimes. The food itself can be nice depending on what you order. Some is pretty good actually…others a bit average.
Pricewise, this isn’t a cheap hotel and I feel that if you compare the price to resorts in other tropical beach locations around the world, you get much better service in other places like Sheratons, Marriotts and Hiltons etc. that said, overall I would still recommend Matinloc for the great beach and reef.

LLenamakkarenaFloresitas impresses with a quiet location right by the sea. If you want to switch off for a few days and focus on the essentials, this is the right place for you (if there isn't construction going on next door or the generator is running - both of which were completely bearable). In one of the log cabins (without AC) or (in our case) rooms with air conditioning, the most necessary things are available: a comfortable bed and a small bathroom with shower and toilet. Our room was relatively clean, I don't understand why the mirrors in the Philippines never seem to be cleaned. In addition, the water from the tap is rather brownish and is not recommended for washing. Right in front of the room door: white, fine sand that stretches from the sea over the entire complex. Many hammocks and seating areas invite you to linger. The WiFi throughout the property was the best we've had since arriving in the Philippines. The food was also really, really tasty - Gemma goes out of her way to fulfill her guests' wishes. Speaking of guests: here too you have more peace and quiet - we were apparently the only ones in the complex on two out of three nights (over the weekend). But there are a few things you can do: rent a kayak cheaply at the resort and explore the area yourself, go snorkeling, firefly watching from another resort a few 100 meters away, or book a private boat trip through Ursulas Resort (neighboring resort). The hosts also try to help as best they can, but sometimes there was a lack of mutual communication. But in the end, with their help, we were able to be picked up in the van right from our front door.
All in all, we felt the price was a bit too high for the simple conditions and the remote location (outside of all the hustle and bustle of tourism). But we still really liked it and would come back at any time.
AAyumi YamamotoLocation: Sunset was just a short walk to the fabulous and famous beach!
Room: I used it for three people, but it was big enough. It was really nice to have breakfast on the outside terrace.
Meals: The restaurant at the hotel was really good and we used it for everything except breakfast.
The atmosphere of the whole hotel was so good and calm. I will definitely use it again when coming to El Nido!
TTINGTINGHotel location is very good, very close to the dive shop I booked, the hotel pool is very beautiful and clean, the door is the beach 🏖️
The breakfast is super rich, especially the fresh egg yo, the dinner can also be eaten here, the price is better than the town, but also the night view, just on the beach
GGuest UserThe cottages are lovely and clean located near the beach. You can totally relax away from el nido and still go for dinner at a nice restaurant just by walking along the beach (takes around 20-30 min to walk to vanilla beach and have to consider the tide!). The breakfast was good, but otherwise we wouldn't recommend eating there - we tried the new year's eve dinner which was overpriced and a normal dinner when we got cold meat and seafood in a vegetarian dish! Also the food didn't come at the same time, so you couldn'r really enjoy eating with your partner. We booked through agoda and they didn't answer any of our emails or calls. The day of our arrival we finally got someone who answered the phone and organised a private transfer from puerto princesa ( around 6500 pesos). They also have a free ride by golf cart from mcdonalds/ vanilla beach to the resort. If you want to go to el nido a tricylce from mcdonals costs 150pesos.
GGuest UserWe had a fantastic stay in El Nido despite challenges at this hotel and the *********** description being inaccurate to the room. Pros of staying: easy access by tricycle off the main road, beautiful sunset views, free kayak rentals, great and attentive bar and restaurant crew, good but very limited breakfast, air-conditioned rooms with outdoor drying racks for clothes. Cons of staying: far from town, no hot water, brief loss of power, terrible to no internet, dogs and cats with mange that will put their paws on your lap while you eat, variable quantity of food for breakfast (sometimes 1 egg, sometimes 2), they do not clean your room, front desk will lie to your face over several important issues (see below), (and minor issue) instant packet coffee only. As for the front desk issues: I at first thought there was a gap in communication, but things kept happening that made it clear they were just negligent and rude. I would like to preface this by saying I've spent over 4 months in the Philippines with no issues communicating even when both individuals don't understand the other's language. This hotel's website is in English and is marketed in English. The front desk also showed their hand by remembering several details including our van transfer time and date while pretending to not remember several other things they literally wrote down on the same sheet of paper. Most of our communications were with Catherine Apa. 1. They tried to kick us out before the day they told us we were checking out. We had booked a 3-night stay and tried to add another day online, but were unable to modify our reservation. We booked a 4th night separately and were happy to switch rooms if we had to. The first thing we did on arrival was to ask if we could stay in the same room for all 4 nights. They said OK and scheduled our van transfer to the airport the morning after our 4th night. Thank God we were in the room at 12PM the day before check-out, because they tried to make us leave. I showed her my reservation (again), and she told us we would have to move to a different room. She said ”don't worry, it's a deluxe room with the same price with an ocean view. But you have to get out now because someone else booked your room.” OK, so we hastily pack up the whole room and just as we finish, she pops in to tell us ”actually you can stay here” with no apology whatsoever. At this point it felt like she was messing with us. The excuses were ”our desk computers don't connect to the internet” ”you are booked twice, for a 5 day stay” (which makes no sense) and ”actually there are people in the new room right now.” 2. They insisted our tour meeting time was wrong and refused to schedule transportation at the time I asked for. The tour said 8AM sharp, and she absolutely insisted on leaving at 8:30AM. She said the tours leave 9-10 so there's no way you need to be there at 8. I asked several times to get there at 8 and she just wasn't having it. So we booked for 8:30. T
GGuest UserI had very nice stay in Ashok homestay honestly because of the owner. My stay was in February 2017 during valentine week. The hotel is at the center of the city, accessible to restaurants, clubs and beach. The location of the hotel is just perfect even during late evening. The room is clean, bathroom is clean. The wifi is weaker inside the room but very good at the lobby. I have no complaints during my stay. The owner of the property is kind, humble, approachable, helpful and smiling face nice guy. He is always ready to help in suggesting restaurants, beach, shopping areas. He even offered us to cook breakfast (bread omelette) in his kitchen which was a kind gesture often not found. He was flexible with checkin-checkout time. I would highly recommend Ashok homestay for the best beachy exploration and a cost effective vacation.
AAndrea M MLovely and friendly staff, they were very helpful on answering questions and providing information about tours/ transport.
I stayed in the private 6 bed room, it was very cosy and stuffy, each bed had its own fan but it wasn't enough cold air for the whole night. Each bed had a socket and a small cupboard to place your luggage, you might want to bring your own lock. The bed were a good size and soft.
The restaurant had good food but a little pricey. Every night there is an event going on and music, luckily you don't hear it in the rooms. The bathroom/ shower are was clean and spacious, bring your own towel.
One the best things about the Hostel is it has the best beach view, you only have to walk 2 mins and the sea is right there.
However, to get to the hostel you have to walk through the sand to arrive there, if you have a suitcase be ready to carry it across the sand (backpack is easier).
Overall, a lovely place to enjoy and relax for a beach holiday. Sand, sea and sun 🌞🌞🌞
GGuest UserWe experienced excellent service, all our small problems were quickly solved. Straff very friendly and helpful! Nice room with view at mountains. Abundant breakfast, rice or toasted bread with sausages, fried eggs, or beef patties. Manager always there to see that guests were satisfied. WiFi les at top flr. As retired Quality Dept. staff member of Jap. company in Netherlands, my rating is 5 out of 5.
GGuest UserMy wife and I stayed her for 3 weeks last year and have already booked it for 6 weeks in February and March of 2024. They are great people to deal with. The Kitchen and gathering spot was made available when we wanted to cook. Although it is an older place the rooms are newly refurbished and all decorated with a different theme. There’s a lot of charm here and you should enjoy your stay. I would have rated it a 5 but the road is a bit of a challenge getting there. It reminds me of a castle that appears out of nowhere and that’s why I like it. It is very quiet and away from the main roads.
