The travel agent nor Jet2 advised us on booking this hotel that it was due to close in October for a major refit. We found out after we had booked it. I contacted the hotel and was assured all services were in place to ensure our special (25th wedding anniversary) would be a success. On arrival the suite was a great location overlooking the lake but the room was very tired and drab, we didn’t mind that as the view made up for it. However, the services within the hotel are very lacking, fridge wasn’t topped up, even though we mentioned it at reception, some sun beds were broken and dirty, dirty parasols, breakfast was chaotic always running out of plates, cups, tea pots, we actually only had breakfast four times as both myself and my husband came down with food poisoning during our stay and were quite ill. There was no room service so even though we were ill we wouldn’t have been able to get anything brought up. I did have a couple of messages from management asking how we were. We had an evening meal one night and due to torrential rain during the day, the floor at the outdoor seating area leading to our table was wet and clearly a hazard, given a lot of elderly stayed here I was surprised we weren’t seated inside. The choice of bar snacks was very limited and mainly a burger or club sandwich which wasn’t very inspiring, the evening meal was ok but not great, earlier reviews mentioned fine dining but it definitely wasn’t, in fact a lot of the clients were complaining that they’d been previously and the standards had dropped immensely, apparently jet2 had stopped booking half board and offered refunds as there were many complaints about the food etc. the staff were pleasant and friendly but overall I wish we had changed the booking and gone elsewhere. It wasn’t a special place at all and very expensive for what we had in comparison to other four star hotels we’ve stayed at. I’m sure ten years ago it was a wonderful place.

We stayed here for a few nights for a friend's wedding, and loved the hotel. The finishes in the rooms are very modern, including the bathrooms which were beautiful (and my wife and I are picky on this point). The pool and deck have beautiful views of the lake, as did our balcony. Most memorable, though, was the service: consistently excellent and personable, of a type difficult to find in a larger chain. The staff went above and beyond for us. On top of their consistent, professional, personable service, they ended up saving us on the way back from the wedding. We did not reserve a taxi/other car service back in advance, and asked them to do so day of. Unfortunately, (likely due to other wedding guests booking earlier/wedding ending late around 1am), the local taxis were booked up. The staff assured me they'd figure it out, and called me at the wedding to confirm they'd found a driver/give me the details. All went smoothly, and we later found out the driver was either a friend or a staff member of the hotel, who would not typically be working at that time but came to pick us up, free of charge (yes, we tipped), when we didn't have another option. Thank you so much to the staff for making our stay!
Hotel du Lac

The hotel is by the sea, the ground floor of the hotel is the lobby and restaurant, and the scenery is invincible when dining at Lake Garda. The hotel is a pedestrian street between the lake and the lake, with many restaurants and leisure facilities along the street. The hotel does not have a parking space. If you drive to the hotel, you can suspend the GRAND HOTEL parking space on the edge of the hotel for 30 minutes and walk 2 minutes to the hotel. RECEPTION will carefully tell you the location of the free parking lot and draw how to get there on the map. It is very convenient. There is a ferry next to the hotel, which can visit several nearby towns. The rooms with terraces are fully equipped, clean and hygienic, the hotel staff is warm and friendly, and the breakfast is rich.

Upon our arrival we were led to a room which was stinking badly of mould. I started looking for the source and soon discovered that all walls were mouldy, some of the biggest patches covered with furniture or bed. We were shocked and immediately asked the receptionist to change our room as being in these conditions is extremely hazardous to health, even for people who are not allergic to mould (my partner is). We couldn't believe that a 4 star hotel or any kind of hotel would have rooms like that and show them to guests. These rooms should be completely torn down/renovated. Luckily we got a different room, the situation there was better. However, it was still not a 4 star hotel experience: hotel and the room smells really bad (probably old irrigation systems and old furnishings). Bathroom doors wasn't closing (would open by itself, really romantic). To get to bed you would need to climb wooden stairs which were squeeky and loud, which doesn't work for nightly toilet visits. The floors were very low so you couldn't walk straight up in the bedroom. The roof window had a broken ”curtain” so it was always closed, hence it was always dark. There was no net from insects on the window, so you would always have some mosquitos in the room or other bugs. It wasn't as quiet as expected, as the hotel is right by the busy road so you would need earplugs to sleep with a window open at night. Breakfast: good for people who eat sweet breakfast. Not so good for people who eat continental breakfast, because there was almost no choice. You had bacon, watery scrambled eggs, watery boiled eggs and some tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, ham. It would have been satisfactory had the eggs were done properly, but they were always undercooked/almost raw, so as I didn't want to get ill I chose not to eat that and survived on veggies. Staff was nice and friendly, the view from the window absolutely beautiful, but that does not really recompensate for the overall poor state of the facilities.

We had a glorious full lake view. The grounds have interesting trees and a lovely stone wall bordering lake with piers to swim/ boat from. Room was stunning. Great coffee machine , wonderful bathroom. Evening restaurants either Michelin or fish, a bit limited. Lovely restaurants up hill or in Gardone walking distance. Excellent breakfast. Staff outstanding. only issue was glass bins being emptied very noisily at 7.30am (6.30am UK time) went on for about 20 minutes. The hotel did give us compensatory fizz but did disturb our sleep one night.
