If you have extra money, this could be a nice way to indulge. However, a word of warning. If you're arriving at Odawara train station, there's no way to get to the hotel except by the hotel shuttle. Taxis won't take you. And the hotel shuttle won't take you unless you've placed your name on the reservation list ahead of time. Nobody warned me about this. I'd read online that a connecting train takes you near the hotel, but this isn't true either. I arrived during a snow/ice storm and waited over 3 hours before I could get a ride to the hotel. The shuttle driver wouldn't let me on. I called the hotel front desk 3 or 4 times, but they weren't very helpful. I suppose this is the language barrier. They meant well. But regardless, if a shuttle reservation is the only way to access a remote mountain top hotel, it's pretty important to make sure your guests understand this. Once I did arrive, I have to admit the room was beautiful. The buffet dinner was fantastic but not included in the price of the room - a little disappointing, since the room is already so expensive. Lots of extra costs, so be careful. I received a really great massage in my room. The onsen hot spring was very nice, and free (included in room charge). Breakfast the next morning was also included in room charge. The hotel bar was closed, though. There wasn't much opportunity to socialize or meet people. I did check out the lake the next morning, which was beautiful in the snowfall. I'm sharing photos of that. There wasn't time to check out much else because I had to get back on the shuttle bus at 10:30 to catch my next train. I suppose if there hadn't been an ice storm, I would have checked out more of the surrounding area and appreciated it.

A great place to relax and a stop to travel for Mount Fuji Five Lakes. As we travel by rent vehicle, it is another isolating place from urban to feel the beauty of nature. The outdoor hot spring is the best corner of the hotel. Meanwhile, the Japanese breakfast is definitely one of the best in our 6 days trip.

It’s a very nice hotel, peace of mind. Very polite & passionate staff. Nearby Lake Ashi, great scenery if lucky you can see Mt Fuji.

Prince Hakone was amazing, it had a great view right outside the hotel.

The soundproofing effect of this hotel is very good and the room was very quiet, which allowed me to have a good rest. The service attitude of the hotel staff was very good, warm and thoughtful, and made me feel very welcome. The location of the hotel is also very good, with convenient transportation and many attractions and restaurants nearby. All in all, I like this hotel very much and highly recommend it!

Beautiful location near the lake. Perfect view of Mount Fuji on a clear day. Onsen experience was great. Very close by distance to ropeway/pirate ship activities.

The front clerk when we check-in was kind and also the staff that carried our luggages. The hot spring was the best. But when we check-out the front clerk was rude to us.

The hotel is old, and facilities are dodgy. The electric recharge does not work. What is worst is the faiilure of atr conditioning. We had to open the glass door to the balcony the whole night.

Service was top notch. Location is good for families as it is near a small aquarium, zoo and ropeway.

Good food

The Royal Prince Hotel is located by Lake Ashi in Hakone. When you get off at Odawara Station, there is a hotel shuttle to pick you up. Check-in is also very smooth. There is also a Chinese-speaking lady who explains the hotel layout in detail. We were arranged to stay in the East Building Lake View Room. The room is very large, about 40 square meters. When you open the balcony door, you can see Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji from a distance. The hotel hot springs are divided into indoor and outdoor, traditional Japanese hot springs, and swimsuits are not allowed. The next day, take the hotel shuttle bus to Hakone Port and travel around Hakone clockwise. The first stop is the Narikawa Museum, which is highly recommended. Then take the pirate ship to Taoyuantai, transfer to the cable car to Owakudani, eat black hot spring eggs, black curry bread, quickly check in and go down the mountain, take the mountain cable car to Gora, transfer to the mountain bus back to Hakone Port, eat a Japanese set meal by the way, and finally take the last bus back to the hotel. A perfect day!
