Banken Hotel

We booked the economy double but the price did not justify the ridiculously small room we were put in. Our cost for 2 nights (1863 per night) was more than we paid for nicer hotels in Stavanger and Bergen yet we were given a room that was so small the door barely opened without touching the bed. The closet could only accommodate a sideways hanger, our window looked into a concrete fire escape. Totally claustrophobic. Stay away from room 214! This room should only be offered as a last chance for desperate travelers and not at 3 star rates.

This is the best boutique hotel we’ve stayed at in either Denmark or Norway. A converted bank building, it has very classy decoration and lots of historical bank photos & memorabilia throughout (including the stairs … best stairway I’ve ever seen!!). Room was perfectly clean, reasonable size and very functional. The rooftop terrace was great (on Sunday night, the bar was closed and we used it for our own pizza & drinks). The whole hotel is in excellent condition and very clean. Breakfast is included in the very reasonable rate. Note that if you are staying long, cleaning is only done every 4th day. This is an “automated” check-in/out hotel, which worked fine for us (you need access to your email / sms the day of your check-in to receive codes). Overall, a wonderful hotel experience.

Banken is my absolute favourite place to stay when around Haugesund! I love the beds, pillows, duvets and linen, they're like a warm fluffy nest! The entire personnel is super friendly and helpful, from the cleaning ladies to the desk people and the managers, whatever wish I ever expressed was promptly fulfilled! Once I was sick and they took really good care of me, called for the doctor and all that. Breakfast is great too, and I personally find their free offer of coffee and tea (sometimes even pastries) in the lobby as a very classy touch. Warmly recommended!

My company paid 3500nok for 2 Mid week nights (Around £150 a night ). The Hotel is very Central in the City which is one small bonus. You will be sent a text with a 6 digit number to open the front door and your room door (as they don't have staff so always take your phone or log the number if you go out ) the key monitor on my door was very temprementle I would hate to try and do this after a few beers or Wines you can also hear people outside through out the stay fumbling around trying to get into there rooms with this number code?? The room was VERY VERY basic and small (for the cost)..... No facilities at all other than 2 glasses on a table (Thats it). There is also no privacy when the curtains are open? I was over looked by 3 areas so for two days the curtains were closed . Bathroom again Very small everything basically in top of each other. I stay in Haugesund a lot maybe every month for the last few years and it's the first and probably the last time I would stay here sadly. Breakfast was "Ok" has all you need but again it's a very small area and you can get cheaper hotels in this Area with far better facilities and Breakfasts. * From the outside looking in and from the hallways to the room everything looks nice and probably your front door on your room is basically the best thing about the room...I couldn't imagine staying in this room with my wife for the whole weekend due to size and facilities .
