The Dilly was probably amazing in the 1980's and 1990's but not much has been updated since then! We stayed in a Dilly Classic room which was perfectly fine, a good size, clean with strong Wifi. The shower was powerful and there was plenty of hot water. I know some people on this site weren't impressed by the breakfast but I thought it was great. Obviously, the location is fabulous. However, I didn't feel the room was up to five-star standard. The coffee was instant and the milk small UHT cartons. There was no fridge or mini-bar (though we were in the 'cheapest' room so may be different elsewhere). The toiletries were cheap and basic (so bring your own), there was no plug by the bed to charge devices overnight and no Blu-tooth speaker which seems to be a given now in higher-end hotels. The style of the room itself was quite dated including the landline next to the toilet which I'm sure was incredibly cool in 1986 :) Overall, if this was a three-or-four-star hotel I'd give it full marks, but as it's a five-star, (and more importantly charging five-star prices), it's lacking in some areas. I believe the hotel is currently 'between owners' which makes sense, as I guess the current owners don't want to invest and are ticking along until the new ones take over. It's not dreadful by any means, but they charge a lot for what you get.

To start, when booking a hotel I always critically read the reviews and research the area. Additionally, a relative stayed at this hotel about six years ago and liked it. The hotel is in a wonderful area. It is next to a tube station and just a short walk to wonderful museums. The area feels safe and not crowded with tourists. Now for the things that I did not like. Upon arrival at 10 AM, the Front desk told me that my reservtion had been canceled. I showed them my confirmtion, but they said it was canceled. So much for asking for an early check in. I had to call the reservation's number and the woman on the line quickly found my reservation. However, the Front desk now said that I should come back at 1500 to check in. My wife, exhausted from a overnight flight sat down and fell asleep on the lobby couch. Perhaps this was a sore sight, because now they found a room for us by 1100. The room felt smaller than what was stated for a Deluxe Double. The bathroom was small but clean although the toilet seat was loose and we had to continually readjust the postion. The refrigerator was not working. We informed the desk the next day, but it was not repaired or replaced until that evening when we called the front desk again, and the night manager himself came to fix it. I feel that all these forementioned issues are tolerable except for what I felt was the UNCLEANLINESS of the room. The dark carpet has numerous visible stains and it just felt dirty when walked on with bare feet. There were dark smudges and even a spot of dried blood on the bathroom door that were not attended to by the housekeeping staff. I have attaced a photo of this. The room was dusty and I had to wipe surfaces with a damp cloth every day during our five night stay. During our stay, not once did I hear hear or see a vacuum cleaner. In all, except for a great location, I was very happy to leave upon check out.

I find spa days odd if this is normal. Maybe this is a me thing. £70 to sip camomile tea in a not very warm room with the lights down (I could have murdered a coffee but they didn’t “do” coffee in the spa. Coming from a luxury hospitality background and it being a high-end hotel, I would have thought someone might have offered me one); the jacuzzi again was not all warm and nice so my muscles still wouldn’t relax and then there is a steam room with eucalyptus. The sauna is separated m/f so i didn’t bother because I went with a male friend and the point was to chat… we ended up having more tea. There is no swimming pool but there is a gym. Fair enough if you want that. My starters had no flavour at all. The main was nice and right for the moment and my Irish coffee was delicious. The building wowed me and everything is in very good condition. Staff are down to earth, smart and friendly. The set menu was worth doing. I don’t know how this competes with other hotels but had the spa been warmer I would certainly have been happier. I feel £70 for that part of the day is money for old rope. When I think about it we spent about £20 an hour to be in a nice building and have a £30 two course meal. I think that’s quite a lot. The spa could do with some personality, warmth, music… having tables cleared more often (it wasn’t busy)… something other than going room to room in a towling robe.

To be honest, for a room that costs 10,000+ per night, the overall experience is really average. It was much worse than a hotel of the same price in Paris. In addition, the breakfast at the hotel was really unpalatable. The porridge in the Asian Breakfast was the most unpleasant porridge I have ever tasted in my life. Also, breakfast is included in the room rate for the first stay, but only 50 pounds is allowed, which means that if you accidentally order more than the amount, you will have to pay extra for the meal. The only positive thing I have to say is that the location is very good, and the restaurant has a view of Hyde Park.

the lift was broken 2/3 days we were there- carrying luggage up three flights not fun! hoofing it up three flights after 15,000 steps sightseeing the city also not fun! the “AC” in the room is barely functional- it blows air but not cool air. the fitness center was closed or ‘out of order’ when i was there. the check-in takes a long time… and there is only one check-in desk. they DO graciously offer a glass of water or wine while you wait- but it is tedious to sit in the very small lobby watching the receptionist slowly check in the guest ahead of you taking twenty minutes… after a 12 hour flight and train ride - you just don’t need this. i chose this hotel BECAUSE it had a lift and a fitness center… it was aggravating that these features were simply not available in actuality. they should have comped me a free breakfast or something since i DIDN’T get what i paid for… the staff was friendly though, and the room was pretty and comfortable. also it was nice that they placed complementary water bottles and snacks in the room. they MUST improve and speed up their check in process! they must fix the AC, the lift, and the fitness center. if not, they should offer guests a complementary breakfast as a small compensation. i could have selected a cheaper hotel that didn’t have these amenities. i paid more for this hotel FOR these amenities. not good business to not deliver what was offered.

Great hotel! highly recommended! Excellent location, go straight to the British Museum, walk for three minutes, walk 6 minutes from Holborn subway station. The hotel service is particularly good. From the door, there is a service staff who takes the initiative to open the door and take the baggage. It is already in the room when you check in. When you leave, someone will help with the baggage, and you don't even need to bring it out. This is for traveling alone. It’s really great! At 11 o'clock, I have not yet arrived at the check-in time. The front desk will arrange a free lobby for a tea break. No matter where I see the service staff, I will always say hello and friendly greetings, full of service awareness. Breakfast is traditional English and is as varied as it was when you were studying at Oxford. The hotel decoration also has a strong traditional British flavor, the room is very clean, the hot water is very good, I have a service staff to send a small biscuit to welcome after the check-in, go out at night and find someone cleaned the room. Because the hotel is in the heart of London, the room size is not that big. If you want to experience the traditional British style and exquisite service, this is definitely a good choice! Although it is a bit more expensive, I personally feel that it is very worthwhile to experience travel to London!

GGuest UserTruly an experience. My wife and I brought my mom to London for her 80th birthday, as afternoon tea at The Ritz was still on her bucket list. She had no idea I booked our stay there as well, and the Rolls Royce pickup from the airport. The hotel itself is what you expect, the Luis XVI style common areas and rooms are beautiful, but what really makes the place memorable, are the people. From our first contact with Johan, and our check in with Giacomo, Gavin, Roberto everyone was fantastic throughout our stay. The amount of time that the folks at reception are willing to spend just chatting and sharing stories with you is something you just don't find elsewhere. Many thoughtful interactions with my mom as the whole place seemed to know her big birthday was coming up. It was the experience of a lifetime. Thank you everyone at the Ritz for making it happen.

GGuest UserThe Stafford is a small 5 Star and used to be the ”sister hotel to the Ritz”. It was forced to close during Covid on a number of occasions so we haven't visited for 3 years. If anything it's even better now than it was - quite a feat. We were given a Deluxe King on the third floor, a nice room with a view over the terrace/courtyard. My lady who is quite small found the bed quite high to get into (as usual, they really are quite high) but one of the most comfortable of any hotel we've stayed in, ever. Room service is precise and speedy and the Room service menu ranges across both the Restaurant and American Bar menus - we'll give a name check to Mahir who went over and above on a number of occasions. We decided to eat outside where possible due to Covid so the American Bar Terrace hosted by Viviana looked after us splendidly. The food is splendid. The Hotel has lost its ”Super Doorman”, Charlie and Head Concierge of years, Frank, but has replaced them with excellent and very personable staff. In all a wonderful 8 day break and it was good to be back 'home'. Highly recommended for those who like smaller luxury hotels with traditional 5 Star service where nothing is too much trouble with no corners cut.

SshervaVery satisfied with a hotel, worthy of this price. When I made a mistake at the time of booking, I saw that the room information showed that the facilities for the disabled were provided, and I didn’t think about it. I found that it was a special room for the disabled. It was really embarrassing. . . Before the check-in, the hotel contacted me via Ctrip and asked me about my check-in time. My answer may arrive at noon, which will be far earlier than the hotel's check-in time. The reply will be arranged according to the situation on the day. On the day of the check-in, we arrived at the hotel around 11:00 and they were all ready. Thank you very much! The hotel was originally remodeled by the bank and opened only last year, new and atmospheric. There are seven or eight restaurants in the hotel lobby, and the taste is comprehensive. Geographically, it is located in the downtown area, walking close to the hotels around the Thames, and next to the subway station. The decor of the room is completely classic British style, the details are carefully polished, very special and very like. There are no less than 20 kinds of bath products, which is extremely luxurious. I saw a comment on the book saying that the sound of the music downstairs was noisy, but the actual experience was completely unrecognizable. The sound insulation of the window was well done. The sound of the door next door was noisy. This may be the only fly in the ointment.

We arrived very early and our room was ready the girls on reception are so efficient and always smiling and always say hello and are there to help with anything we asked. The breakfast was out of this world and again it’s the staff who make it such a joy . Food tasted unreal . There is nothing that anyone could fault about this hotel . Tony on the door so good with people . A special mention to MOHAMOUD he was so efficient and couldn’t do enough for us . He was always smiling and we noticed he was watching his guests all the time to help them with bags or door etc . He will go far in the company . We already booked to come back next year . GGuest UserIt was a great stay and everything goes to Daniel for letting me enjoy my stay. Each time I enter or leave the hotel, he was the first one to come and talk to me with a smily face making sure I am enjoying my stay, he took care of everything, whenever I order something he delivers to my room, he was there carrying my shopping bags, helping me with everything, opens the door for me, ordering taxi and everything. If there is one reason why I would come back to this hotel, it is all because of Daniel. Thanks a lot mate it was a pleasure

GGuest UserI have stayed at 44 Curzon in the past and return because of its great location and the generous size of the units which also allow for one to prepare meals in the mini-kitchen if one wishes. Still the case, and it is very comfortable and homey, but just a little more attention to maintenance and cleaning would make it so much better. As would a better entrance door access system or alternatively a 24-hour presence at the front desk. The unit I stayed in had a number of minor issues (shower that could not always be turned off on the first few tries, bedside electrical outlet broken, toilet paper holder falling off wall, bathroom drains very slow to drain etc) all of which could be fixed with a little repair/maintenance. The room was adequately clean but I was a little surprised how minimal the housekeeping was this stay; towels were replaced every day and the bathroom cleaned, but it was up to me if I wanted any cleaning or tidying done in the kitchen. (I thought on previous stays there had been a tidy-up of any dirty dishes and a wipe-down of the counter and sink, but not this time.) The carpet in the lounge of the unit was quite stained and the main stair carpets were extremely worn and look like they need replacement. The kitchen had everything one needs to prepare meals and all appliances were in good working order although there did not seem to be any instructions provided for the combined microwave.convection over. There was a very small freezer in the fridge which was nice, but unfortunately no ice cube tray provided. Check in was not till 4pm and checkout quite early at 10am. Access to the properly (main door) via key card or the Direct Key app continues to be problematic. My key deactivated extremely easily and while the app generally seemed to work, sometimes it was a bit slow or had to be opened and closed before it would work. A more reliable form of access really would be a plus--or, if the front desk was manned at all times, not just a certain hours. Otherwise it does make one a bit anxious, especially when returning to the hotel late at night. The three front desk staff members I dealt with were all extremely pleasant and could not have been more helpful and accommodating. They provided great assistance when asked for or about anything, and also volunteered some really great suggestions (e.g. about theater tickets). I was disappointed that my request for a unit on a lower floor couldn't be accommodated. I had first asked for this when booking (and paying in advance) for the room last fall, and sent two follow-up messages within a couple of weeks of my arrival (via the website and directly). On arriving I was given a room on the 4th floor and told there was nothing lower. My request had definitely been received and recorded, didn't get any reason why it couldn't be accommodated. There is an elevator but it is a bit creaky and goes out of service when users forget to close the door after getting out of

GGuest UserThe photos and website information about The Academy are incredibly deceptive about this boutique hotel. Sounded and looked lovely online and with a middling price of £188.00 per night B&B sounded a good choice for a solo mini trip to London. The reality was incredibly different. The hotel is scruffy and shabby and the loos smell of fish. Sadly, the service was non-existent and not at the level I would expect of a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. I had a single room (which I chose as it was just me) on the ground floor overlooking the courtyard. It as very basic, but adequate and unlike the other reviews, it was quiet (except from the noisy air-con system). The en-suite was tiny, but the shower was reasonably powerful. As many have already mentioned, the room was stiflingly hot, with a small and inadequate air-con unit which struggled with the heat. I can only imagine what it would have been like when we had the 40C heatwave. I struggled to use the remote control device to work the air con and so, at 12.30am in my dressing gown, I went in search of someone to help me. Daniel came into my room and helped me to get the aircon working and it tried its best to cool the room down. By the next day, and with it on 24/7 the room did finally cool down. As someone else has also mentioned the lights from the aircon system lit up the whole room like a disco! The lights outside the room in the corridor also didn't turn off at night and so the room was bathed in a bright white light from outside and red, green and yellow lights from various fuse things in the room. So, once the air-con was working as best as it could, my attention then turned to the lights! I propped open the en-suite door to block out the light from the corridor, and then managed to pin and stuff towels and a spare pillow case over the disco lights to dim the bright glare. As you can imagine, the first night was a bit of a nightmare with not much sleep. Breakfast the next day was good and the staff in The Refectory were the first to greet me with a welcoming smile and were so helpful and attentive. The breakfast (and staff in the Refectory) have saved this review from being the lowest rating of Terrible. I am incredibly disappointed with my two night stay at The Academy and regret staying there. To finish on a positive note, the location was great and easy to walk to all the places that I wanted to walk to. So great location for Soho, Piccadilly, Covent Garden etc, but poor service and a tired and tatty hotel. So, Bloomsbury is super, just choose an alternative hotel.
