Sun Hotel by Greene King Inns

I hadnt been to The Sun in years decided to try their Sunday lunch and wasnt disappointed. A very welcoming atmosphere. Had the roast although you could also choose from the main menu. The meal was lovely and the service from the staff was excellent. Would definitely go again.

We visited over the weekend and had lovely service. We had food and drinks which were really nice. We were served by a really lovely lady, she was friendly and professional and made us feel very welcomes. I think her name was Lisa. Thank you so much.

Situated in heart of town where many restaurants can be found, parking very limited.check in easy. This is an old coach house with narrow corridors squeaky floor and run down. Room small and dark.bathroom very small and tired. Shower was cold. Bedroom tired. Breakfast good and staff excellent

Not a good experience at this Hotel. The first room we were given was grubby so offered the choice of 2 others, (None of the rooms offered look like the pictures on their website) We were told the room would be ready for us later, so we went out for dinner and a few drinks. Later when we back to our room we could see that apart from some towels on the bed nothing else had changed, toilet still dirty etc. The bed was lumpy and upon further inspection found the mattress very stained, not nice at all. We were booked in for 2 nights but left very early the following morning after the first one. I understand that its a very old building but the cleanliness should be much better. Good location for all the local amenities but because of this hotel noisy at night.

I stayed at the same time and also had Hunter's chicken, which was well presented, hot and tasty Bizarrely we stayed in a room with a dripping shower- I shut the door? Surely a one star score is for a "hovel" which it is clearly not! Please think about your impact on business and their staff - in some areas the centuries old inn is "work in process" but the staff are consistently delightful and certainly deserving of a much better score..

Stayed overnight and dined at the restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. While the initial server was helpful and accommodating, things quickly went downhill. My friend ordered a gluten-free burger, which was mistakenly served with chips that were not gluten-free. When we asked about it, the second server had no idea if the meal contained gluten, so it had to be sent back for a new one to be prepared. My meal, the Hunter's Chicken, was another letdown. It was supposed to come with chips and I paid extra for garlic ciabatta. However, it arrived without chips, and I only received two small slices of ciabatta. To make matters worse, the chicken was served in a puddle of water, which was quite unappetizing. From our table, we could see into the kitchen, and we noticed the chef cooking while wearing earphones. This is a clear health and safety issue and likely contributed to the poor communication about the gluten-free meal. After these issues, I asked to speak with the manager. The first server apologised profusely, and the manager issued a full refund, which we appreciated. We decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere. Sadly, our stay at the hotel was also problematic. The shower head in our bathroom was dripping continuously all night, and there was a loud air vent outside our window that kept going off, making it difficult to sleep. The next morning, when I went to check out, no one was at the reception desk. Despite ringing the bell and waiting, no one appeared, so I had to leave the key in a letterbox, unable to speak to anyone about our concerns. Overall, our experience was disappointing, and I would not recommend this hotel or restaurant to others. I hope management addresses these issues to improve the experience for future guests.

Once again a lovely Sunday lunch,and dessert at the Sun hotel and truly looked after by Kim , thank you. We’ll be back next week for the same again , have eaten here plenty of times , and never been disappointed with the food, drinks and especially the service

My dad and I visited during the week for lunch. We had a meal each from the lunch special, two meals and two drinks for £25. We chose fish and chips and sausage and mash. Both meals were absolutely delicious, very well cooked by the chef. Special mention about our waiter Harry, who was delightful and helpful, although all staff were great. Definitely will return.

Great hotel friendly helpful staff. Close to the market sq restaurants and other hostelries but has a nice bar and restaurant. Lovely gardens too if you'd like al fresco!! All around excellent i would definately recommend it to friends and family
