"Baien is truly the best. The private open-air bath and the large public bath are both excellent. (Note: Be sure to confirm the private open-air bath when booking your ryokan stay.) The ryokan is spacious, so walks around the property are lovely. Both breakfast and dinner (kaiseki) are also superb. However, there's no entertainment nearby, so if your sole purpose is to enjoy the hot springs, you definitely won't regret it. I'd love to visit again in winter."

"Our stay at Yufuin ”Tano-kura” was absolutely flawless. First off, the service was truly top-notch. Our dedicated staff member (SIC) was incredibly professional and attentive, taking exceptional care of us throughout our visit. What really put us at ease was their meticulous attention to confirming food allergies, which allowed us to fully enjoy the exquisite and delicious cuisine without any worries. Every interaction, from the introduction to the hotel facilities to the meal service in our room, was handled with utmost politeness and respect. The environment was impeccably clean and tidy, making for a wonderfully comfortable stay. This trip truly allowed us to relax completely; we left feeling fully recharged and revitalized. "This guesthouse has a story to tell in every corner, retaining some of its original Japanese style. The environment is quiet and clean. The evening hot spring bath is by reservation for one hour per group, allowing couples to enjoy a private bath together. A thorough introduction is provided before check-in. The owner is friendly and beautiful 🥰. Breakfast is a traditional breakfast (the rice is superb). I highly recommend allowing time to fully experience and appreciate every detail. Although the location is a bit far from the station (a 15-minute walk), I recommend taking a taxi from the station to the guesthouse. There's a luggage delivery service to the station upon check-out, so you don't need to rush to pick it up. You can pick up your luggage when you catch the train (luggage storage costs about 600-800 yen). You can easily stroll around Yufuin, enjoying the clean air and streets. If I had to point out a downside, it would be the noticeable dampness of the tatami mats, probably because it's near a mountain and quite humid. Also, being a guesthouse, they don't offer any services after 9 PM. We arrived very late and didn't have time to buy anything before checking in. There are no convenience stores nearby, and the guesthouse doesn't have vending machines selling food. But as long as you don't arrive right on time like we did, you won't have this problem. 🙂"

"We went to Fukuoka for Chinese New Year, and since my husband loves hot springs, we decided to stay two nights in Yufuin. The inn's location was superb, close to Lake Kinrin, and very quiet. Just a short walk away was Yufuin main street. We booked late, so our only option was a Japanese-Western style room without a private hot spring, which was a pity and a bit disappointing for my husband. Our 'one-night, two-meals' plan was incredibly filling, featuring what seemed like kaiseki cuisine plus either wagyu barbecue or wagyu shabu-shabu. I'm not really an expert on kaiseki, but I could definitely tell the food was exquisite and fresh. Since we don't speak Japanese, the inn assigned a young, English-speaking waitress to attend to us throughout our stay, which was very thoughtful. As I mentioned, the food portions had many courses, and we were quite full by the end. When the waitress asked if we wanted rice and we replied 'just a little,' she seemed genuinely concerned, thinking perhaps we didn't like the food 😅. I wanted to tell her we were simply already full. As for the downsides, my husband found the toilet a bit far from the sink, especially in the private toilet within the bedroom. The inn also didn't offer laundry service; staff advised us to use the laundromat on the main market street if we needed to wash clothes. In the end, we decided against it and waited until we returned to Fukuoka to do our laundry at the hotel there. Also, I imagine the inn is a traditional Japanese establishment, and the staff are quite principled. We were late arriving due to unfamiliarity with the transport, so dinner was pushed back to around 7:30 PM. They seemed a little displeased but remained composed. On our way back, as our preferred train/bus tickets were sold out, we had to leave earlier. The inn was accommodating with our breakfast time. We initially asked them to reduce the portion for the child and just serve scrambled eggs, but they insisted on serving the full original portions, telling us to eat as much as we could. Their reasoning was that since we had paid, we should receive the full amount we ordered, which we respected. We simply didn't want to waste food. Overall, we were satisfied and really appreciated the Japanese culture and traditional decor in all aspects."

"A hot spring ryokan in Yufuin. The location is a bit of a walk from the main tourist area, about 10-15 minutes on foot. Shops in the immediate vicinity tend to close quite early, but there's a convenience store nearby for any last-minute necessities. While the staff's English proficiency was average, they were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to assist us. The property was spotless, and the air conditioning was excellent, ensuring a very comfortable night's sleep. The rooms are quite spacious, making them ideal for families or guests with a lot of luggage. The toilet and bathroom are separate, and even the washbasin area has a door, which is great as it prevents disturbing others who might be sleeping. Given the limited number of rooms, we enjoyed the onsen three times during our two-night stay without encountering any other guests, and the hot spring itself was very clean. Both breakfast and dinner were thoughtfully prepared, and dining in our own room was a truly delightful experience."

Our charm lies in allowing guests to relax freely and at their own pace—more than preset schedules or arrangements from the hotel, guests can enjoy their own time according to their preferences. Located in a tranquil rural area, we are highly regarded as a lodging that offers the most beautiful views of Mount Yufu. From our proud top-floor panoramic bath, guests can enjoy breathtaking, sweeping views of Mount Yufu. In addition, there is an open-air hot spring bath where you can feel the breeze blowing through the basin, along with a sauna that has become popular in recent years. The ever-changing, picture-perfect scenery invites you into a moment of escape from the everyday, like stepping into a painting.

"Although it's a little over a kilometer from the station, I highly recommend walking instead of taking a taxi, as the scenery along the way is absolutely beautiful. Cherry blossoms, streams, small bridges, distant mountains, fields, and a mix of Western and Japanese-style houses create a very soothing atmosphere. The hotel exceeded my expectations. The lobby is grand, and the front desk staff are fluent in English and provide detailed information. On the top floor (4th floor), there's an observation onsen. The rooms are purely Japanese style, clean, tidy, comfortable, spacious, fully functional, and offer expansive views of beautiful scenery. There's also a restaurant in the lobby. Many restaurants in Yufuin's Yunotsubo Street and Floral Village close by 4 PM. Personally, I find this natural, unspoiled environment much more relaxing than those famous, trendy tourist spots."

"The hotel is about an 8-minute walk from Lake Kinrin, a major attraction in Yufuin. It offers plenty of parking and a coin-operated self-service laundry next to the main entrance. Please note that rooms on the second or third floor are only accessible via stairs. I booked a duplex room, which had a toilet, an indoor hot spring bath, a dining area, and a kitchen with basic cooking utensils and a large refrigerator on the lower level, allowing for simple meal preparation. This was my first time staying at a hot spring ryokan, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Upon arrival, we were offered welcome tea and snacks, and they even helped us take our luggage to the room. Our stay included dinner and breakfast, and the meals were incredibly rich and delicious. The main course for dinner was Wagyu shabu-shabu. If you don't eat beef, you can inform them in advance. If you wait until the day of, there might be an additional charge. The room was huge, split over two floors. The bedroom was on the second floor, while the first floor mainly consisted of the living room and a private hot spring area. The private hot spring even had both indoor and outdoor sections, which was a fantastic experience. Since I don't speak Japanese and only a little English, they were very patient in translating everything during our interactions (check-in, meal explanations, etc.). When checking out, they escorted us to our car. During check-in, they also asked if we'd like a ride to Yufuin Station upon check-out, but since we had a private car, we didn't use that service, so I'm not sure if there's a charge for it. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

This onsen hotel exceeded my expectations – it was truly excellent! First off, every room has its own private onsen, offering complete privacy, so you can enjoy a hot spring bath anytime you like! The hotel environment is beautiful, perfect for taking photos. We were lucky enough to encounter snow, which was the icing on the cake! What's more, the room was fully equipped and impeccably clean! Since we visited in winter, it was incredibly thoughtful that there were heaters everywhere, even in the bathroom. We booked the 'one night, two meals' package, and the food was delicious! The dishes were very unique, and you could really feel the restaurant's dedication. Extremely satisfied! The staff were excellent – friendly and approachable, making me feel right at home. Regarding transportation, we originally planned to drive, but canceled our car rental due to the weather. We took the train to Yufu Eki, pre-booked the shuttle with the hotel, and arrived in about 10 minutes! Overall, this is a highly recommended gem of a hotel! I'll definitely be back!

The hotel staff were pleasant and welcoming. They have separate communal onsens for men and women, plus three private onsens that require advance booking (one 50-minute slot per room per day). This isn't super convenient, especially since you probably won't spend more than half an hour actually *in* the spring. However, you're allowed to wear a swimsuit in the private onsens if you prefer. The hotel building is quite a distance from the station, but it's close enough to the lake, which is definitely worth seeing if you're visiting Yufuin. On the ground floor, there are vending machines where you can grab snacks, just in case you get hungry late at night (the hotel closes after 12:30 AM).

Here's a review of my stay: 1. **Location and Amenities: A Quiet Corner with Easy Access** The hotel is conveniently located, about a 7 to 10-minute walk from JR Yufuin Station, making it easy to find while also being away from the busiest commercial areas. Right next door is a Lawson convenience store, and there's a supermarket nearby, which is super handy for anyone who likes to grab snacks and drinks in the evening. 2. **Hot Spring Facilities: Highly Private ”Kashikiri” Experience** This is truly the highlight of the inn! There are 5 private family hot springs (private baths), including both indoor and outdoor options. No reservations are needed; you just check if the light at the entrance is off, and if so, it's free to use. **Tech-Savvy Management:** Guests can scan a QR code with their phone to instantly check the real-time availability of each private bath, saving you a wasted trip. **A Small Tip:** If you're staying in winter, the path to the outdoor baths and some outdoor showering areas can feel quite cold. If you're sensitive to cold, I recommend prioritizing private baths #1-3, which are indoors. 3. **Dining Experience: A Hearty Yakiniku Feast** We opted for the half-board plan, and dinner was enjoyed at a partner yakiniku restaurant. The wagyu beef was excellent quality and incredibly generous in portion. There was even a bonus offer of unlimited alcoholic beverages and plum wine, making it fantastic value for money. The Japanese-style breakfast the next day was also very filling, providing a great start to our day. 4. **Unique Atmosphere: A Paradise for Animal Lovers** The inn has very gentle cats and dogs living on the premises. If you're lucky, the resident cat manager might even appear in common areas or even come by your room for a patrol. For animal-loving travelers, this sense of warmth and comfort is something other hotels simply can't replicate. 5. **Accommodation Details and Recommendations** **Room Space:** The new wing rooms are spacious, blending modern comfort with traditional Japanese aesthetics.

A hot spring hotel with one night and two meals. It is very convenient to have a private hot spring in the room. The public bath is relatively small, but not crowded. There was no one there when I went there that morning, and I enjoyed the outdoor hot spring very comfortably. The room is in traditional Japanese style, very comfortable and hygienic. The staff does not speak English very well, but they will try their best to communicate with guests through mobile phone translation and other methods, so there is basically no problem. The food was prepared carefully, but the dinner was not to my taste, but the breakfast was a surprise. There were free popsicles, hot spring eggs and beer. The location is far from the station, 20 minutes walk, but people usually go to Yufuin to visit Yunotsubo Street. If you walk from Yunotsubo Street, it is still okay to walk there in 10 minutes. The check-out time is 12 o'clock, which is good. After breakfast in the morning, you can go back to the room and enjoy the hot spring time in the morning before leaving. Overall, it was a very satisfactory accommodation experience. I enjoyed the hot springs and will consider staying here again next time I visit Yufuin.

What a blast I had here!!! I only stayed for one night and now I wish I had stayed longer. It was a Friday so Rio, the owner, organizes a night of games at the public gymnasium for teenagers (who although growing up already have the strength of super-powered samurais) and whoever else wants to participate. I haven't run and wake up with so many bruises since high school! It was really cool how everyone is quick to set the props for each game, we played 4 or 5 games in one hour!!!! It felt like a much longer time, everyone gave their best presence and participation all the time! It seems the other nights he takes everyone for a walk to see the stars, and Tuesdays there's also volleyball. Anyways, he is pretty proactive and creative , so I'm sure there's many variations and possibilities! The living room is very pretty, the sofas super comfortable and the view gorgeous! The bed was very hard :/ this was the only big issue for me. The onsen is so cozy, the water super smooth and instrumental music playing. Delicious! The conditioner smells great! I was a bit worried that they had too many rules, because when I contacted they informed about the need to leave the house everyday from 10 until 16. And that the eating time was very specific: 7:20 in the morning and 7 at night... So I was worried they would be too strict...but there's no need to join the food. I had breakfast and it felt like it would be at the communal dinning of beauxbatons, everyone sitting closeby with identical very beautifully presented meals that come in many quantity but small portions. It is not my jam, but for sure it is special! Some informations could be a bit more clear because they are a bit slow responding. For example they have a pick up time in front of the army at 6pm. I asked info for an amazing lady at the Art Center inside the station, Chika, and she called them. She ended up taking me herself and was the best company I could have found! She is an artist, we went to the supermarket and had great conversation! I recommend going to the art center to say hi to Chika! Lots of love, thank youuu Mountain Mamas!!!

This hotel is nestled in the mountains, featuring terraced rice fields, which makes for a very relaxing stay. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped; we chose a room type with an indoor onsen bath. The half-board (dinner and breakfast) meals were also good, and I recommend the Japanese-style breakfast. The baths include both indoor and outdoor options, and overall, everything was very comfortable. The only downside was that when we checked in at 4 PM, we were told that the shuttle service for the next day was fully booked, and we'd have to pay for a taxi ourselves (even though there were empty vehicles available). Despite this, I would still highly recommend Hoshino Resorts KAI Yufuin for an experience.
