Dirtiest place I've ever slept. The beds had not been changed, leftover food was scattered on the bed. The mattresses look like they came from the dump, full of holes, bumps and yellow spots. The ants walk over the mattress. Nothing seems to be done about maintenance and cleaning. Service is kept to the bare minimum. The only positive is the location. Terrible.

During my recent stay at Petra Hostel in Jerusalem, I had a less-than-pleasant experience that left me feeling disappointed and uncomfortable. The hostel's location was convenient, and the room rates were affordable, but unfortunately, the overall atmosphere and service fell short of expectations. One of the significant issues I encountered was the cleanliness of the place. The hostel appeared to be in need of some serious maintenance and cleaning. The common areas, including the bathrooms and the lobby , were not up to the standard I would have expected from a reputable establishment. The lack of cleanliness made it challenging to feel comfortable during my stay. Additionally, as a single female traveler, I encountered some uncomfortable situations with the older man at the front desk. While I don't want to make any unfounded accusations, I felt that his behavior was often inappropriate and unprofessional. He seemed to shout frequently and made me and some other female guests feel uneasy with his comments and stares. I believe that every guest should feel safe and respected during their stay, regardless of their gender or background. It is essential for hostel management to ensure that all staff members adhere to a code of conduct that promotes a welcoming and harassment-free environment. I had high hopes for Petra Hostel based on its online reviews, but my experience left me regretting my choice. I hope that the management takes these concerns seriously and takes steps to improve the cleanliness and professionalism of their establishment, making it a more comfortable place for all guests.

I was happy to find a cheap place to stay in Jerusalem. It's in a good location. It's writen on the internet tat the place is closed but it still welcomes travellers. I don't know how they are not shamed to offer this place to anyone, especially to the refugees from Ukraine. I guess a basement in Ukraine looks better than this place. There is nothing there, the place is run down, dirty, the beddings, matrasses, the floor, the sink, toilet are dirty, there are holes in the wall, there's hardly any fresh air in the room. The receptionist did not have my reservation, even though I booked a bed on hostelworld. Initially, he showed me a shared room with another person but it was too filthy and I asked him to show me a private room but it was hardly any better, then he showed me another shared room upstrairs which looked like it was used less, so a little cleaner. I took the beddings off, hoping I don't get bedbugs, put my air matress on and thought I could sleep there in my sleeping bag. Then I saw the bathroom: water hardly ran from the it, it was dirty. I couldn't fill my water bottle in the sink as the tap was too low and there was no water in the sink in the room. There was no wifi in the room. So I decided to leave. The receptionist told me to pay the price of one night for the room (I booked it for two nights), I paid it and went away. The only thing I'm sorry about is forgetting to take my shower gel from the shower.
