We recently stayed at the Coffee Bungalow in Kandy, Sri Lanka. A very colonial experience in good condition. The service was good and swimming pool a delight. We had dinner there one night, food was fine. We asked for wine list and were offered a white Argentinian wine they had nothing else. A drinkable house wine. I had a can of Lion beer On check out we were outraged. The can on Lion was charged @ US$ 12 crazy. the wine a whopping US$ 75. A top quality bottle of wine in top hotel in Sri Lanka would be no more than US$ 50. This bottle should have been tops US$ 25. The beer US$ 4. Then the card payment machine would not work with 3 cards tried. We finished paying in US$ cash. No option. This hotel, is a rip off on extras. I would Not recommend staying there. It reflects very badly on Sri Lanka. Our private tour guide was also appalled. He would be taking it up with his company. We had pre paid the accommodation, clearly not the extras, which were not priced on any documents before our purchase. We bought in good faith. Caveat Emptor . Buyer Beware… perhaps our own fault for trusting.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers stayed at the Coffee Bungalow for 3 nights in late Dec ‘23. The Bungalow is nestled in the Kandy Hills with stunning views of the Knuckles Mountain Range, Kandy town, lake, and beyond. It sits above the hustle and bustle of the streets beneath in a serene spot with manicured gardens and a beautiful infinity pool. The rooms are opulently decorated, and also have sweeping views across the valley. We dined on the terrace each morning and evening and were also treated to a “High Coffee” experience on the pool deck one afternoon which included a variety of cakes and treats as well as coffee and tea. Staff are friendly and discreet so that you feel like you are in a home rather than a hotel. Highly recommend this place.

What a welcome! The hotel is tucked away in the hills above Kandy, although within easy reach of the city. It offers spectacular views of the city, jungle and the Knuckles Mountain Range. Head just past Helga's Folly and it will be the first property on your right. Go down the stairs on arrival and you'll be greeted by the friendliest staff with cold towels and a cooling drink. We were staying in the lake view junior suite located on the top floor with wonderful views of Kandy below. The room is huge with a tall vaulted ceiling and a four poster canopy bed. The bathroom is one of the largest we've seen in Sri Lanka. Each room has a roll top bath and walk in shower. They also provide a coffee body scrub but no individual shampoo/body wash etc. There is a good hairdryer provided and a laptop sized safe. They had UK plugs, a fan in place of AC which works well and you don't really need AC here. The infinity pool here is lovely and refreshing but not too cold, even on a cooler day in December. There are comfortable loungers and pool towels provided. Breakfast was superb. We enjoyed fruits, toast (the first actual toast on our trip, mostly it's warm bread), hoppers and a Sri Lankan omelette. On our departure day we had an early start to catch the train and they kindly made us up a breakfast bag with fruits and sandwiches. We also enjoyed a traditional Sri Lankan dinner in the evening which was delicious. The property has a lovely verandah and so no matter what the weather you can enjoy a meal outdoors overlooking the city lights. The staff are just wonderful and cater to every need. Everything is just perfect here from the cleaning (everything sparkles) to the placing of cutlery. One day we were relaxing and we were offered cinnamon tea and cucumber sandwiches which was lovely as we'd not had lunch as we'd been travelling. Thank you to Adrian, the chef Dinusha, Sameer and the gardener/security guy whose name we didn't get but was lovely. The genial proprietor himself spoke to us at length, and went out of his way to make us feel like part of the family. I couldn't think of a better place to stay in Kandy. Close enough to town but far enough away to enjoy the tranquility and views.

Had the most wonderful dinner at Coffee Bungalow Kandy to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. The team were so accommodating of lots of different requests and went out of their way to make it a very special evening - the food was delicious, the setting spectacular (stunning views over Kandy) and the service impeccable. We ate outside but were shown inside the house, which is beautiful. It would be great to stay next time we are in Kandy. Coffee Bungalow Kandy comes highly recommended!

We loved staying at the Coffee Bungalow, it really was a home from home. We loved the views and the pool deck area. The staff were brilliant and so attentive and the meals simply superb. The tomato curry and coloured breakfast hoppers were a real treat. Easy walk into Kandy (20 mins+) and then 5 mins back in a rickshaw. Great location.

We went to the Coffee Bungalow for a family birthday dinner and what a lovely experience. The property itself is a beautifully restored old Bungalow with the most amazing view of Kandy. It truly is the most breath taking view of the city. We were warmly welcomed to the property and given a full tour of the place, it has a real sense of charm. Food and service was great, a lovely evening all round, well worth a visit, a real jewel in Kandy.

Our family stayed at the Coffee Bungalow Kandy over the Christmas holidays. We were treated like absolute royalty and enjoyed a most wonderful Christmas dinner with our host, and owner of the resort, Thusitha. The house has been in his family for many years, until he refurbished it as a boutique hotel, and so the physical building has much character and history. We saw his incredible family photos from 19th and 20th century that capture the history of Kandy and of Sri Lanka as well. It was an exciting and narrow drive up through the hills to the hotel itself, but worth it for the great views from the grounds. The rooms were very comfortable and traditionally furnished with upgraded modern fixtures in the bathrooms. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. Highly recommended!
