Ezhara Beach House, near Kannur is like nowhere else we've stayed. As per many of the reviews, Hyacinth is the hostess to be beaten, she genuinely cares and wants you to have a lovely time. She can arrange pretty much anything, tuktuk, spices, dress shopping and repairs, taxi, massages, bus tickets, train info....etc. The building is an old heritage place with no real mod cons, and a 1970s hippy vibe. No aircon, but plenty of fans. We were warm but to be honest, we have aircon at home in the UK. Most other guests didn't even put their fans on! The electrics in our floor were limited to one or two sockets in each room, and ran the fans. But we managed to charge our phones ok at the same time. Plenty of hot water for the shower. Our room had a safe in it; at no point did we feel we needed it, but it is nice to have a secure place anyway. The balcony we had was peaceful overlooking the beach and listening to the sea, with chairs, deckchairs, plus a yoga mattress. We borrowed deckchairs and beach towels for the beach, there were also some bodyboards if we'd wanted. Hyacinth makes it clear that it is your home whilst you are there. The beach literally is a 1 minute walk, and is both quiet and beautiful. The food at Ezhara Beach House is exceptional, her cook really is great. We stayed a week and enjoyed numerous types of fish, cooked in different ways, plus calamari, prawn curry, spicy chicken, heaps of vegetables, water buffalo and lamb, and so much more. Hyacinth will often check what you'd prefer, if available at the market that day. The breakfast have a good choice each day too, always a variant or two. And fruit for you to keep for lunch. Ooh and great masala chai for breakfast and at around 4pm with a little snack treat. If staying in any upstairs rooms, I feel this wouldn't be very suitable for anyone immobile. We were lucky with all the other guests that we bumped into in our week, from France, Madagascar, Germany, Sweden and the UK - all were interesting, well behaved and wonderful company. Hyacinth is a fun lady, with a lovely infectious laugh and we had a super time!
