I booked a room for Sept 30th and October 1, 2024, at Courtyard Kansas City Country Club Plaza due to my mother having to have heart surgery at nearby St Luke's Hospital with a 7 am check-in. We arrived at around 4:50 pm Monday. I went into the lobby to check in and then headed out the door to the car.
As soon as I opened the door my mother is on the phone and yelled up to me "St Luke's has to cancel and reschedule the surgery" She handed me the phone and I spoke with the Patient Advocate, she told me to go back in and cancel the room. I go to the front desk and tell the clerk that the surgery is canceled and we don't need to stay and ask him to talk to the hospital patient advocate. He refuses and says rudely, "It's canceled".
I felt he was lying and I was correct as once I got home and went to www.trip.com I saw that the hotel REFUSED to refund me. So the next day I called the GM of the hotel and explained what happened (he already knew because I posted it on the Trip.com website when I tried to get a refund. He was EXTREMELY rude and basically said, "Tough luck buddy, I'm not giving you a refund, and good luck getting one from Trip.com".
Any good hotel would have had this response, "We are so sorry your mother's heart surgery got canceled a few hours before checking it and we will gladly refund and hope that the surgery goes well went she gets it done". I mean I was only in the horrible hotel for less than 5 minutes and NEVER even walked into a room! Yet this MONEY HUNGER rude and insensitive GM just cared about getting MONEY. MONEY MONEY MONEY. To hell with the customer.
