This beautiful hotel is a bit out of the way, but well worth the drive. The country side is gorgeous and the setting for the hotel idyllic. The lodge is right on the banks of a river which is quite close to the ocean. It rained (surprise, it's Ireland) while we were there and the gentle river turned into raging rapids which was amazing to see. We had a river view and it was great to watch the river transform. The facility is quite luxurious and while there, you feel as if you're in a very high end hotel. The staff, across the board, did a wonderful job. We had breakfast there each morning which was more than we could eat and dinner there one night which was also quite good. The grounds are spread out, so you don't feel confined to a single space. There's a nice covered pool area where we hung out for a bit as well as steam, sauna, and hot tub (which we used). We visited the same weekend they have their annual bike race around Beara Peninsula which meant 6000 (yes, 6000) bicyclists came to the small town for a ride. The town was ALIVE with people which made it fun to eat and drink around so much positive energy. We felt bad when the day of the ride was met with torrential rains... Hotel was a good home-port for long and fun drives around the country side and ocean side areas. There are some well-known "rings" you can drive around to see all sorts of Irish living. Downside, these rings are also heavily populated with tour busses who not only have "right of way" on the road (meaning, you need to get out of their way when the road is too narrow for you both), but when you're behind one, you're stuck behind them for a long while. If you want to get into the neighboring town, the Lodge has a shuttle service (one of the guys up front drives you in a car) into town, you call them when you want to get picked up again. This is because there's very little parking in town and it lets you drink all you want and not worry about narrow roads, fast drivers, busses all after a few Guinnesses!! Great location, great service and a lot of fun.
