The Shore

Cold, damp room with very small single bed. When I arrived at 8pm reception was not manned. Only looking around I saw a note to say that I had to go to a different hotel to get key. If I was not local I would not have known were this other hotel was. I also called the number listed but know one picked up. Room was really dreadful, small, damp smelling and cold, the heating had not been switched on. I also had been given a small single bed, and room looked nothing like pictures. Soap dispenser in shower was empty. To be honest room was awful and the only reason I did not complain straight away was the fact that it was raining outside and I was incredibly tired after travelling all day. I informed reception that next morning at 6.30 am that I was dissatisfied, and that room was not worth the money and that I felt ripped off. This room was not worth the money and was an embarrassment to Hotel. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone.

Nice stay in Kirkwall A nice place for several nights in Kirkwall. Withing walking distance of shops and restaurants. Picked this place due to pickup for tour.

Adequate rooms Served a purpose. Comfortable but tired - being renovated in coming winter, and it needs it. Entrance hallway very gloomy and a bit stale smelling.

Shore hotel Although I slept in the shore hotel I wasn't made aware on booking that I would have to collect my keys, and have breakfast and dinner at the Kirkwall Hotel. Perhaps it would be helpful if this was mentioned on booking. But room was lovely

Dirty hotel the shore The shore hotel room was dirty we had to ask to get the bed change on arriving kettle in room was the same food was terrible we sent back roast beef dinner was cold and old potatoes on the plate breakfast was under cooked could not eat it waist of £25 pounds not great cook’s will never return over price £685 for four nights in the worst room I have ever stayed in the Amex which is the shore hotel darkest damp room dirtiest room I have ever stayed in Kirkwall itself is a picture

Great Stay in Kirkwall I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews. We found the complaints baseless. The Shore is an annex to the larger Kirkwall Hotel. Check in/out is handled at the Kirkwall. The room, while a little musty smelling until you open a window, was fine. It was immaculately clean. There was plenty of hot water, and the breakfasts were basic but tasty. I would stay here again.
